My wife was sick + coughing all week.
Last night - I finally got sick..........thanks honey !
I feel like real crap !.....all day.
I just said "screw this !"
I cracked open a Sierra Nevada..........and I feel BETTER !!!
It ain't a cure but at least I don't care anymore !
Anybody else ?

Nice home remedy, Joe! :D

My local pharmacist tends bar on weekends. He can combine both careers now!

Hope you're truly on the road to recovery--and you don't take a U-turn!

Of course I have. Thats my go to cure. washes the system out. to be honest, I have never once been to the doctor when I was sick, I have been to the liquor store a number of times.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

I might be drunk, but at least I'm not insane.

I haven't been sick for many years. Maybe the booze is a preventive too.

Have you ever glanced at the side of a Bombay Sapphire bottle? All herbs! Medicinal! [emoji13]

  • Summer reboot!
If I'm already on a trip and get sick, I'll drink my way through. Alcohol is one of the key ingredients in most over the counter cold remedies. It does suppress cold symptoms but unfortunately also thins the blood and hampers the immune system so you're likely extending the duration of the cold by a few days. A small price to pay IMHO though instead of ruining your trip.

I was sick as a dog during my December solo trip to Vegas. Low fever, running nose, sore throat, chest congestion, cough....it even affected my gambling, I like to play craps but didn't want to snot bomb the whole table.

Played more VP but the few times I did play at the tables I downed a whole bunch of Coronas and must admit it made me feel better. Felt worse the next morning, lol!!

I've cancelled pleasure trips at times if I've come down with something just before. I was, however, a victim of that norovirus outbreak a few years ago at Mandalay and a few other places. :(

I also once had to strong-arm a close relative, mostly against his will, into visiting a "Quack In A Box" when he was coughing and sneezing all over the rest of us.

As I think back, I'm far more likely to come down with a case of the crud just AFTER I return from Las Vegas.

There's a bottle of brandy in the kitchen, clearly labeled "Uncle Dean's Special Medicine".
If we're talking something cold-n-fluesque, sure.
If we're talking gastro-intestinal...un uh, no way. :vomit:

All great cold liquid meds have alcohol that stops the hacking cough when you get sick with a cold.

It is best to drink lots and lots of water. Hot teas is also great because it has water.

I think it is a great idea to have a nice hot alcoholic drink to make my throat feel better and I will sleep better at night.

Yes, and you can get very very silly and stupid on Nyquil!

My family doctor specifically recommends a particular version of Robitussin (or generic) which is clear and is totally alcohol-free, sugar-free, and dye-free. You really have to look for it and not all places stock it. He says it's the closest to what they use at the hospital. In my not so humble opinion it tastes much better and is just as effective.

So he could prescribe medical mj and Viagra and you'd have what's known in baseball as a "high hard one"!

As a kid, when I got a cold, I would always get a terrible cough that kept the whole family up all night. I was given---even at a young age-- an old Italian cure-all made of warmed up red wine and herbs. Of course it tasted not great, but no worse than some of the cough syrups today. I went to sleep as soon as my head touched the pillow and was able to sleep through the night.
