Planning a trip in August and wondering if Ellis Island still has their steak special. When we were in Vegas last year, we ate the steak special three times for $7.99.

Check with the players card desk. As I recall, you will need to print a ticket at a kiosk to get the special pricing.

After eating it in mid-February, my opinion (sadly) is that it’s gone downhill; quality just isn’t as good as in previous years. Cost-wise still worth it. Just keep expectations in check.

That said, the BBQ restaurant that opens in late afternoon is solid. Those ribs are absolutely DYNAMITE, especially for the money.

Had a great piece of steak in January. Depends on the animal and chef. Some nights it is better than others. It is still an amazing deal.

To get the $7.99 price, you need to play $5 through a machine first. Use this time to get a beer or rootbeer to carry into the restaurant. After playing $5, print two coupons from the passport players club machine. One lowers it to $9.99 which you can use if you don't want to risk the $5, the other lowers it to $7.99.

I had the special this week and I agree it's gone way downhill. The steak was obviously kept under a warmer!! Very tough for a rare steak. They have other food that is much better. My husband loved the county fried steak.

Ate there late night this weekend and had one of the better steaks I’ve had from them. I stopped getting the special years ago due to the declining quality, but nothing else on the menu appealed to me that night. Looks like they, like many restaurants, are on a reduced menu. They were also out of syrup so the server was telling everyone not to order breakfast items. My friend asked a guy at another table what was good and that guy spent about 3 minutes talking up the chicken fried chicken, which is what my friend ended up getting. His girlfriend ended up getting the steak as well and hers came out looking nothing like mine. They looked like completely different cuts of meat. She took a few bites and ate some of his chicken instead. Guess this was my long way to say the special is inconsistent, but you can get lucky and have a great steak for $7.99.

Can the $2 kiosk coupon (and the additional $2 off for playing $5) be used on any entree or just the steak special and BBQ? I’ve heard good things about the food beyond the steak and BBQ (I’m not really a steak person and have to be feeling extra-carnivorous for BBQ), so I would be more likely to stop by there if the coupon had some flexibility :)

Well put Bearz, Ellis is my favorite place for reasonable priced good food. If you order the special any other way than med rare you are gambling and it may end up like shoe leather. Like you said, it depends on the cut & cook. I usually get it once a trip. The other menu items that are very good are the Country fried steak, the Country fried chicken, the build your own burger with lettuce, tomato, grilled or raw onion, bacon & Swiss cheese, the afternoon BBQ ribs are very good. I get the 1/2 slab & 1/2 a bbq chicken. The fried chicken is also very good. The #1 dish on the Ellis' menu in my opinion is the king cut med rare Prime Rib. They also have daily lunch specials daily written on a chalk board. I think Thursday is pot roast day. Excellent. Bassman hope you give some other dishes a try. You may forget about the steak special.

Ellis Island confirmed on Twitter that the steak special is still around, in a rather “subtle” way :)

I think this “first letter” meme is trending on The Twitters; Ellis Island is playing along and knows what the people want

Will be in vegas end of October and my mom and I are planning on visiting there on my moms birthday (she will get $10 free play on her bday). We have never been to Ellis Island before and will be first timers. I am looking at the menu for the cafe there. How is the steak and eggs? or is the steak special better? We like our steak medium rare.

Steak n egg special is a great deal, like anything, the steak can be hit or miss. We had excellent steak a couple weeks ago.
I’ve also had the ham steak and eggs. The ham slice is huge.
