The infamous Ellis Island steak special is as good a value as ever. For $5 coin-in with a player's card, you get $2 off the steak special, making it a grand total of $7.99.

Meat is not prime, but pretty damn good especially with the green beans and mashed potatoes and house salad.

    Source: Ate there last night.

Also, hit this beaut right after dinner:

I had the steak special about once every month for the last four years. I have it prepared medium-rare and so far had only one bad steak. The meat was good but they overcooked it. The sides are consistently fair to good. The service is fair for the price. 5 stars for value. 4 stars for the steak. 3 stars for the service.

Can you get the steak special if you wander in at 5AM? If they have a pile of pre-cooked steaks like someone said, I think I might pass if coming in off-hours..

I prefer their steak and eggs breakfast over the steak special. No hoops to jump through and the $6.99 price really can't be beat.

I would return for the steak & eggs special. A year ago we tried the steak & eggs special both at Arizona Charlie's and Ellis Island. They were both decent but my check total was almost double at Ellis Island....

I must be the luckiest diner on this board that's ever eaten there, lol. I've eaten there probably 15 times, probably 12 times solo, and all but once gotten a table every time when solo. (My last time there this October, about 8 pm on a Wednesday, they texted me after a 5 minute wait.) Never more than a 2 minute wait for a drink order, and the food never more than 10 minutes. The waitstaff was always pleasant and friendly. I recommend the fish & chips, other than the off-the-menu $7.99 steak.

Haven't had the steak special in about three years, for no other reason than everyone else in my group always wants to hit up the BBQ place instead.

From what I remember the steak was good, not great, but prepared as I wanted. Going back in two weeks and I may need to give it another go.

We did Ellis and Arizona Charlie's Decatur on one trip and there was no comparison on quality. The steak at Ellis looked like a small dinner steak, at ACD it was a thin irregular piece of meat that was going to be well done regardless. Price difference might be for coffee and juice. I always joked that I should use my four free drinks coupon and order four virgin White Russians to get a glass of milk.

If you hit this hand before dinner, would you still had the steak special?

We've had the EI steak special numerous times over the last 20 years. Always great value for the steak portion, not so much if you don't like green beans ... ;). You used to be able to get a glass of wine instead of a beer, but no longer (at least the last time we were there).

I spoke to a manager once. He said they go through 200 to 300 of the baseball type sirloins each day.

I went for the steak special a few years ago. Not a great experience. My friend wouldn't finish his because he said it tasted funny. I was starving and finished mine. I ended up getting sick. I won't bore you with the details. However, I had the ribs the year before and they were fantastic.

I've had the steak special many times as well and always enjoyed it. The king cut prime rib $15.99 (w/a 50% off coupon) is a better deal IMHO. In previous years it used to come with a choice of a root beer or draft beer from their brewery (I recall it being $13.99). Both the ACG and MRB had 50% off coupons but ACG discontinued it, MRB still has the 50% off coupon.

I had the special many times as well. Usually, steak is the thing I like the least on that special. The house salad with ranch dressing is the best! Beans, fries, root beer are also great. Steak is just OK. I ask for medium, and it's very tough most of the time. So tough that I end up having a jaw-ache throughout that day I ate the special. Maybe next time I'll try medium-rare.

I just had the steak special Tuesday. Was told they didn't come with a beer or root beer anymore. Was still good.
