Too rich for my blood. Which I sold most of.
I disagree, the El Cortez is one of the places that has changed and isn't "as is" as before. I used to stay there a lot but recently I don't stay there as much. The main reason is because of resort fees. Before that the ElCo used to have some of the lowest rates downtown but now that they are charging resort fees I can pay a similar amount to stay at the Cal or MSS and since I rather gamble at the Cal or MSS I stay there more. I play mostly craps so I'm not affected by this YAH change and since I am a red chip player I don't get much comps at either place. I don't like the ElCo crap table as much either, the pit crew don't seem as friendly as the pit crew at MSS or Cal (mostly because they are hiring more "international" people who don't speak English or converse as well).
true about the ELCO craps table. the box man really talks shit to those break-in dealers.
I haven't paid for my rooms, or resort fees, for five years. I go every 4 months and I am by no means a high roller.
When I visit Scott the bartender, he doesn't ask what I want, he asks "how many" (I usually have 2 bloody Mary's for breakfast), and that after not seeing me for 4 months. How many other properties can boast service like that?
That's too bad. I really can't stand when the bosses give the dealers a hard time. Does anyone know if they still offer $3 craps and how many times odds they allow? Thanks in advance.
Yes they do. Last week they only had $5 craps Sunday through Tuesday but on Wednesday they had $3 minimum. It's 10x odds also.
Grrrr. I'm heading into town on Saturday and leaving Monday. Likely $5 minimums for me. I have recently become a downtown convert and have yet to step inside El Co. Hopefully, I'll have some luck.
The ElCo Cabana Suites were my home base until they stopped giving the quarterly offers, I never got free rooms but i would pay casino rate and the Resort fee was always waived, the offers stopped last September I think?
Now I stay at the Four Queens for about what i used to pay for the Cabana Jr Suite.
The Elco had better internet, as at the four Queens I have to use my Alfa antenna to pickup the Free City Wi-Fi
I do miss the Cabana Suites and the Free Candy, Fruit and better/larger TV
I appreciate that they didn't downgrade the VP pay tables at the new casino bar. There was a young guy bar tending, and his Vodka Collins tasted horrible, too sweet. The other guys were on point though. El Co is a great place for $5 3:2 single deck BJ. The tubs of beer on ice in the pit was cool of you drink beer. The Pit Boss, George, seemed like a bit of an unhappy man, but underneath I think there was a sweet guy wanting to come out . I wasn't there that long, but I liked him. I rarely got cocktail service at the slot machines. Wonka Pure Imagination, Buffalo Gold and Game of Thrones did not take from me, but Walking Dead, Davinci Diamonds and another Buffalo game did. Their 8 PM drawing is too long and drawn out. Plaza's drawing is much better and more fun. My comped Cabana Suite Super room was nice. The only thing I didn't like were the two small frosted windows. I'd stay in the Cabana Suites again, but not in the main tower. The free ride to the airport after you check out is nice too!
Have you called them about your comps? I'd usually get an email, but I stopped getting them. Called about March and I had 3 nights free, when last year I had to pay casino rate during Madness. Call them, I think their communications are just a little wonky.
Ill be there in about 12 hours. Not the original plan. Actually staying at MSS, but Chicago is about to get hit with some snow; so ducking in a night early and posting up at ElCo. Big question-are the bars still serving up Banger Brew?
Did you have some luck at El Co?
The smell in there is unforgivable, but like others I keep going back.
I haven't tried the pizza joint yet, seems like it's worth trying? I think the smell usually kills my appetite.
People complain about the El-Co smell all the time, but I can't be the only one who finds it strangely nostalgic & not off-putting.
I always feel like I've stepped through a time-portal when I walk into the El-Co...that scent hits you & and it's the 70s again.
I have a strange affection for that smell too! I don't know why but that concoction of bad Avon bath talc and stale smoke that is the ElCo olfactory overload just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling deep in my soul.
Perhaps that's it!
The stale smoke isn't any worse in El Co. than it is in Fremont or Binion's.
Seriously....ALL of the casinos smell a kajillion times better than they used to in the 80's and 90s!!
Less smokers and much better ventilation/filtration systems.
I'd still rather smell SMOKE and stripper talc at the El Co rather than the overpowering fake coconutty smell over stale smoke in the Mirage!
The fake scents are worse than smoke.
I haven't been in about a year and a half, but the scent at the Tropicana is only pleasant for about the first five seconds. The El Co smells like nostalgia to me. I suggest that casinos pump in one of my favorite scents: leather, new car smell, fresh paint, or bacon.
Maybe if they did pump in the bacon smell more people would eat at siegles restaurant that place sucks.
I like 1941 just fine....never had a bad meal there. If they sprayed Bacon Glade all over the joint, I'd like it even better.
