That is their indirect way of saying some Diamonds are really "Fake Diamond" or "Quasi Diamond", or "Diamond in Training"

I like that last one - I can the lounge folk saying... yea, they are a bunch of DITs. LOL!

I get the early fee. We arrive before 9am most trips, and sometimes get hit with the fee, sometimes not. (Orleans)

I know if I pick up my rental car 7 hours early, they aren't giving those hours to me. I pay.

Hard no. Its their policy to give free early check in and late check out to those levels just like waived resort fees (though I've rarely seen it written anywhere). My last two consecutive CET checkins in the diamond checkin were before 11am. They even gave me late checkout on the presidential suite at ballys without a charge, and my understanding (cause an employee told me) is they only have 4 of that room.

Beau Rivage booked same day as Luxor. One will win. Leaning Biloxi.
Vegas or Biloxi. Going somewhere for Labor Day weekend...

It's probably also worth mentioning that (last I remember, anyway) Platinum guests can check in at the Bally's VIP lounge as well. So for players at that level, they may be able to benefit from the enhanced service/amenities in the VIP lounge there.

Orleans has done it to you. So Boyd does it too. They've just never done it with me. Very interesting.

I don't agree with the rental car analogy because they've already established the fact that a car rental is not a daily rate but a 24 hour rate. If you keep it three hours past your 24 hour pick up time, they charge three hours more. A car is (possibly) getting wear and tear on it every hour out. A room is not costing a thing, except as noted, the small increase in electricity usage.

To be fair, the wear and tear is built into the price of both the base rental and the add-on time, isn't it?

I guess I dont know of a good analogy. Suffice it to say I fully understand paying more if I'm getting more.

    I did get your point.
And bottom line it's their hotel and they can do what they want and charge what they want for whatever they want.

This was over 10 years ago but the clerk at the Cal did mention a check in fee if I checked in early. I don't know, sometimes I get a not too friendly clerk at the Cal. But this could be because I was a ruby card holder, or whatever the lowest level was at the time.

Lately I've been staying at MSS with no problem checking in early if a room is available. Unfortunately sometimes the rooms that I want aren't available (I want a south facing room, lower number room - with a shower) so sometimes I have to wait until a room is available. But this last January I got a not too friendly clerk at MSS, even though I made the request (south facing room, room with a shower), the clerk didn't accommodate me. I went back down 5 minutes later, got another clerk and this clerk got me the room I wanted. Not sure why the first clerk didn't accommodate me since the room was available (other clerk said there were many rooms available).

We regularly take a flight that gets us in between 9:10 and 10:00 AM. We’re always at check-in before 11:00. We have never paid an early check-in fee and I’ve never heard of such a thing.

In my own world and happy there.

It's a common practice in Vegas for early check in to pay a fee, unless you are a high level (or if you have a comp offer, you may get it). I just got back from Vegas and was able to check in early with no fee at TI, Cosmo and Mandalay Bay with no fees assessed. YMMV. At Sam's Town, I was told "the room is ready but you will have to pay $20 to check in now at 10am. If you wait until 11am, you won't have to pay the fee."

When passing by the lobby at Bally's, I heard people being told time and time again that they were not allowing check in prior to 4pm without paying the fee.
