Is paying the $35 worth it for early check in at treasure Island? Our flight arrives at around 9am and we were just going to drop off our luggage for them to hold and we were going to hit the casino. I plan on trying the $20 trick so not sure if that increases my chances of an upgrade or hurts it? Thoughts.

If you're not going to need the room till later I wouldn't waste the $35.

We just got back from TI and the early check in was $75, they were trying to gouge the EDC attendees. Our flight landed at 7am, we checked the bags and went gambling. We were able to get our room by 12:30

I seem to recall they have/had a sign they can change out when they wanted to increase or decrease the fee.

Unless you just need a room that early, I'd tried back later in the day. Depending on the day you check in, that might be better if you are trying to work an upgrade.

And, if they have lots of rooms empty (weekday or non event morning) - they may just go ahead and check you in anyways.

And, as you said - you surely would rather be out drinking/playing/eating anyways. VEGAS BABY!

I am thinking 99% of hotels have an official checkin time of 3 or 4pm. And, more times than not when I arrive in the morning, I still get my room right then.

Any hotel, just try to check in when you get there. If they won't do it without a fee, then it's your choice whether to pay.

I check in early at every hotel I stay in on every trip, anywhere from 9:00am to about 12:30pm. I've only had to wait once. And I've only paid the fee twice, in advance, when I knew 100% I HAD to be able to get the room early for one reason or another.

On some trips, they've had a person there enforcing the early check-in stuff. I figure it's kind of like the upgrade. If a suite is what you really want, book a suite. Then it won't feel like a loss up front if you don't get an upgrade. If it's worth it to you to have the room for whatever reason (easy access to luggage, being able to change clothes or have access to a private bathroom), then pay the fee.

I didn't see them charging that much during EDC last year, but I had paid for it when I booked the room, not when I got there. I may have just failed to notice the sign.

In the past, I've gone to check in early (we like to get there by 9 a.m. or so) and been able to get a room by 11 or noon without paying for early check-in, but that seems to be going away now that hotels are offering early check-in fees.
