Trips to Las Vegas

Renting a car just for a day next trip.
Originally planned to hit up the off strip casinos like Red Rock, M, Palms, Orleans, GVR, Sams Town and possibly a few others.
Then we thought why not head to Laughlin?
Based on time, I would expect we could only head to Laughlin or do the other local casinos. Possibly Laughlin and one or two other casinos but thats about it.

The objective is simply to check out other casino and scenery.

Between the two options which would you suggest and why?
Is the trip to Laughlin and back worth the time?

I've been to Laughlin once and won't go back. Found the casinos to be lackluster and boring compared to Vegas or even Tunica...given the choice I would choose the alternative ten times out of ten

About a 2 hour drive. Other then someplace different, it's a line of hotel casinos. Slower atmosphere and outside you don't have the bright lights of the strip or downtown. For me, I'd rather just stay in Vegas.

Third vote to tour vegas. I made the trip one time and never again! I found it very depressing.... along the lines of the Atlantic City boardwalk. No offence to any fans but it didn't do it for me

Skip Laughlin. There's no there there.

Many of the casinos that you mentioned in the Vegas area (M, Red Rock, GVR) are WAY nicer than anything in Laughlin. I love cruising the Local's casinos in LV. They're fun and have great odds/vp paytables.

A two hour drive????? Were you on a mountain bike? We left Laughlin and pulled up to valet park our car at the Golden Gate in 75-80 minutes.

I know all about the speed traps in Searchlight! Never been caught once. I think I may have even read about those speed traps many years ago on this site. Likely saved me money at some point cuz I've made that drive a few times.

Red Rocks, GVR, SunCoast, are very nice. Even Primm is pretty cool and only 45 minutes away from the Strip.

I would only do Laughlin in the summer and only if you wanted to do river activities. Otherwise just do the surrounding casinos.

I like Laughlin. It's quiet and relaxing compared to Vegas.

We hit Laughlin once with our inlaws as they're in Scotsdale, as it's closer than Vegas. It was fun because it was someplace we haven't been, and the one nice thing is I didn't watch my ADT like a hawk, like I do in Vegas.

But, it is NOT Vegas. Unless you're a hardcore gambler who finds the odds way better in Laughlin, there's little reason to make a special trip in my eyes.

I'd hit non-strip hotels in Vegas versus Laughlin, but that's just my two cents. Plus, if it's a bust/not your liking in laughlin, its a long haul back. If you dislike the Orleans, El Cortez, whatever, you just peace out and are quickly someplace else! :)

I like Laughlin too but again only in the summer. Lovely walk along the river and a small outlet mall. Makes a change from The Strip. Gambling seems better there too. You can take a trip on the river. We usually stop at Green Valley on the way for breakfast. You could do Lake Las Vegas on the return which is great in the summer when they have live music and you can sit on the grass and relax in the heat. Red Rock Valley drive through and casino is also a great day and Mount Charleston is stunning.

Probably not for everyone though. Bullhead City, right across the river in Arizona, is often the hottest location in the U.S. Could be north of 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Are the odds really that much better? Reason I ask is that I've been to Laughlin a few times off and on and I've NEVER done very well, gaming-wise (except at Avi, and that's not really Laughlin). It has been my impression that the machines are tighter in Laughlin than they are on, say, the Boulder Strip. Only thing really memorable about Laughlin was the colony of feral cats on the rocks by the river.

Well I said about because of traffic. BTW, I don't do mountain bikes.

I actually didn't find better odds, but was trying to think of a reason someone might like it. I thought maybe, maybe if tables were looser it might be a reason, but I don't play tables, so I have no clue.

Personally, I can ixnay Laughlin as well.

Now, seeing the colony of feral cats MIGHT be worth a trip for me! :)

They cleaned out the feral cats between the Edgewater and Aquarius. Aquarius is putting in a pool area there and all the bushes had to go.

Not sure if the skunks and raccoons are gone though. They lived in the large drain pipe under the sidewalk which isn't in the remodel.
