DTG Host Mr. Curtiss, met us, showed us the property, and then lured us away from the 4 Q's for a night. He is a man of his word !!!
We really enjoyed the DTG. Have us wondering what it might be like on a football Sat/Sun.
Only criticism was the room noisy due to vents and pipes.
The bartenders at the Furnace were very good and friendly. The ability to order food at the bar (it was good) is very nice. Next trip we may spend much more time there.

This is geat info, thank you!So far I've been impressed with my interactions with DTG's hosts. I will let you know what its like on Sat/Sun - I'll be there at least part of the time.

I've been wondering about Furnace - it is where I'll watch the EPL game Friday (already decided) and play a lot of VP( I've been warned paytables vary machine to machine).

    I am getting PUMPED!

Fuzzy, definitely check the pay tables. They do differ from machine to machine (even next to each other). The Ultimate X is has very good pay tables on each end of the Furnace Bar.

If VP is crack, Ultimate X is heroin. Say hello to Eli.

So I'm not a foodie, but this looks like a pretty good quesadilla here.
    20191024_191704.jpg
So 3 beers and a quesadilla and i'm going to head to one of the small markets here get a couple drinks, go spike the first in the bathroom (I'll do the second on the plane if need be). And board.

I'll either post quickly from the plane pre take off or from Vegas.

As an aside - this bar was pretty much empty, but this a-hole sat beside me the whole time coughing. I better not get sick - watch he's sitting by me on the plane.

I’ve stayed there three times. Twice in the tower you take the bridge to, and once in the tower above the check in desk. I have no complaints about the noise- I take Unisom SleepMelts and sleep like a baby.

The 10/6 Progressive DDB at the Furnace Bar is no more. Progressive is still there, but now it is 9/5. The bartender said they'd recently changed it. I played anyway because the progressive was over $2000. There is also a progressive on the premium quads, but it didn't seem to move much and was at about the normal payouts. Also, they've moved all the VP to the northeast corner of the casino. Sort of dark since the back door is now closed and covered due to the new building going up in the former parking lot.

I find this to be the worst of the downtown casinos....just boring. Can’t imagine ever walking in there again to be honest,

With the video poker downgrade, there is zero interest from me to visit there.

Unless you are staying there, as we currently are, I see no reason to play VP at the DTG. Very little consideration for your play. Mostly entries to drawings days away where you must be present to win, and numerous entries into their "daily slot tournament" where you get nothing but sore fingers unless you are in the top ten. Used to be you got at least $5 of free play. Zero daily promotions, bad beer selection and only well booze is comped, even at the bar. Really nothing going for the place other than the convenience of already being there if it's where you're staying.

Do they still have super times pay at the bar or did they get rid of it? I swear I can't understand what they are trying to accomplish with these ridiculous changes...

Well they just murdered video poker for the 2nd or 3rd time this year. But good news, in 3 months there will have 100% payback machines again* until they change their mind a little bit after that.

*Just a guess based on their unusual behavior.

As of last night no one had hit the progressive, which was over $2100. I guess a good thing about the DTG is that, unlike when a progressive at the Four Queens gets really big, there isn't much attention paid to it. The bar was almost empty. And one last knock on the place - drinks at the bar are served in plastic cups, like at the Plaza.
Speaking of the Plaza, it's where we've been doing most of our play, at the bar by the sports book. Great pay tables (except the DDB progressive), great bartenders (Fernando's been there 28 years), and they comp the good stuff. You earn a lot more for your play than at the DTG as well.

    Have to agree:
They decimated the video poker pay tables.
The cash back is .04% on video poker ($10 coin-in = 1 point). Go to the 4Q where its .3125%
Sent email to Curt Curtiss on a Tuesday about drawings on Friday & Saturday. He responded on Sunday AFTER the drawings were held.
Sent another email to Curt asking about my terrible monthly mailers. Over $80K coin-in. Got $10 free play twice a week. NO ANSWER!!

Stay on Fremont Street if you are a VP player. Ain't worth the walk!!

I have never heard of a Casino going out of business because the players win too much. The reasons why a place goes under are

    Over spending
    No customers
    Poor Marketing

this is what drives me crazy about this place. How can a few handpays force you to change policy? You want people to win so they come back and gamble and lose it back to you and then some

We leave today. Final notes on DTG. I still like the rooms as a downtown choice. We've had a premium king, 17th floor of the casino tower facing east. It's been quiet by downtown standards. And interesting to view the construction on the new tower. A lot of it is prefab, so we've heard very little noise from it. It will top out at about ten stories. They are adding the last one now. Well below our level, so the view higher up in the main tower will still be good. Food at Freedom Beat has also been good. The prime rib gambler's special is a great deal at $8.50. Gotta earn 25 points on the day you want it though. That's about it for the standout positives. We've enjoyed our stay and dining, but have played very little at the DTG.

    Hi,
That is incorrect. You do earn points on DTG video poker. Our point system is 10 dollars per point.
