I liked the Downtown Grand just fine, except for the noise at night! Our room, a City Suite on the top floor, was great, but I could not sleep for several of the nights we were there because of the music. If it wasn't the stage by the D then it was the band at Hogs and Heifers. I just need my sleep and can't handle the noise. I even tried my fancy noise canceling headphones but it was louder than they could cancel!

I'm a light sleeper and Last night I was able to sleep without the sound machine on. I was fine until about 6 am when construction noise started. Ive noticed they stop early in the day, I'm assuming because of the heat. Just something for everyone to keep in mind. I really like the DTG and am already thinking about my next trip here.

I've been to the DTG a couple of times. Got $50 free gambling on my card when I signed up for it, too.
We stayed there back in '98 when it was known as the Lady Luck.
I really wouldn't mind staying there sometime in the future once they're through with their upgrades.

Beautiful pool and I love the feel of the casino with the brick walls and exposed ceilings. However, being mainly a blackjack player, I detest the continuous shuffler machine at the $5.00 tables.

Good thing you're staying at Boyd. $5 DD pitch hand shuffle.

Speaking of the Lady Luck, I have a Mad Money keychain with a jester on it that I got about 25 years ago there. I guess it is somewhat of a collector's item:cheers:

Is it true that the DTG offers no player points for VP play???

That has changed recently. Thankfully it was a failed experiment.

I used to love the Grand but then they cut back on the casino pretty heavily last time I was in there. Are there more active table game again?

    Hi,
Resort fee is $26.99 plus tax per night. You will not pay resort fees on comp nights.

This is the home of the $5 craps table. I am bias in liking this place, since I got drunk and hit a $100 hard 8, then hit the point on the 5 immediately after.
I checked out the pool in July, it's really nice. The only thing, is the place is always dead. If you're a social gambler (like me) you want to mix it up sometimes. This isn't the place for you!

By the way, why the hell would they not comp on VP? I'm not a VP player, but I see them ALL the time, especially on Fremont.

They do comp on VP. And they give you 1 point for each $10 played thru.

It used to be 1 point for $2, but they improved the paytables.

I haven't stayed downtown in a couple of trips and decided today that needed to change. Normally I stay at The D, but, I decided to pull the trigger to spend the last two days of my trip at the Downtown Grand for the first time. The rooftop pool and mid-80s weather is sounding pretty good today!

Just finished up a stay at the Downtown Grand and I loved it. Excellent property! I put these in my trip report, but, also figured I would put them here if people are curious about the room/pool. Definitely will return.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

What kind of room did you have? Basic or upgrade?
