I just called DTG to redeem a 2-night offer for late June and was told that even though they're planning on reopening on May 1, they are not taking reservations.

    Seems odd...

Has anyone else had a similar (or better) experience?

The Governor has eluded to the fact that the SAHO will be extended. I don't believe that there has been anything official yet, but so far LA County (I realize this isn't Nevada - but close) has extended it to May 15th. I believe the West Coast will probably add another month and I suspect Nevada will too.

There's no way they are opening on May 1. I don't fault any Vegas hotel/casino for not taking any reservations currently.

Two weeks ago I called DTG to redeem an offer for late-June and they told me that all the spots for the offer had already been taken for June... I thought that was strange.

I would bet that casino's will not open until after Christmas. Probably Spring 2021. Buffets? Maybe never again.

Even when restrictions are lifted, I suspect that casinos, movies, clubs and places like that will be the last to open and not for awhile. Even when they do open i think visitors will still be low and will take a long while for people to start visiting in large numbers again.

As much as I want to visit after having to miss our March trip, I don't think I will be hurrying to go right after they open. I'm sure it will take awhile to get everything going again and I don't know how much fun it would be if many places are still shut down.

I feel that it will be easy for Downtown Casinos to open before the strip and make money because of size. Jerry's Nugget and Ellis Island which are more like neighborhood restaurants and bars with limited games will be able to open. All the Fremont Street Casinos should be able to handle an opening with spacing of people. Without the availability of testing there will be no openings.
It's going to be a really strange experience. What will craps and roulette look like? They will have to start cleaning the chips. I'm sticking to my plan for next winter and flying to Hawaii first then making a stopover in Vegas on the way home.

I'll take that bet. They'll be open sooner than that.

When things open back up, I want everything back to normal. No social distancing, no masks or it will not be fun. Vegas is supposed to be for vacation, get away, and enjoying yourself. There is no enjoyment when you have to wear a mask and social distance and every other machine being off not working. I am hoping this warm weather gets rid of the virus and stops all the cases and we would be good to go. The virus has 2 weeks to disappear or vegas cannot reopen until some kind of medication/treatment is created.

I don’t see normal for Vegas or anywhere else until at least next year, probably 2022. It will be a new normal for a while, until there’s a vaccine or cure. And that’s if this virus doesn’t seriously mutate. These are just my opinions.

How long until there is a vaccine, or we just develop herd immunity? Until then, it doesn't make sense to re-open it anything like it was before. Sweden kept everything open during COVID-19, and says they are very close to achieving herd immunity of their population in Stockholm. Something to keep in mind. They have free health care though, their health care system isn't trying to milk COVID-19 for all the $$$ they can. I was staying at Four Queens up until the day before they shut everything down.
