After I had posted this I began thinking along the lines of how much are they making with all these dollar tips and started to do some basic searches. Someone online somewhere had pointed out that by their math a cocktail waitress makes about $150,000 a year on $1 tips. Several cocktail waitresses came back and told them the reality. So I thought it was an interesting tidbit to throw-in. I don't know if most people get that based on the responses that post has received.

I mostly drink beer when gambling, and tip $2 each time.

Really sorry for my misunderstanding! My wrong thinking was that I thought your question of "How many people realize the cocktail waitress doesn't keep 100% of the tip?", meant you were surprised how low we all tip and took the conclusion we probably don't know that they have to give part of it away, that's why we tip so low. Sorry for my own wrong conclusion.

Totally no worries, I'm glad you asked instead of just assuming I was being a jerk. I have lived in Vegas, had friends who were waitresses, and I didn't realize it. And honestly never thought about it before, so I threw it in there. The person I rented my condo from was a cocktail waitress. Shared or not, she had enough tips to own 3 condos lol. So I wasn't even thinking that way.

I’ve been tipping $2 since I started my solo Vegas trips, for some combination of bottled water, Diet Coke, and/or Sugar Free Red Bull (a water and one of the latter two, or two waters), $3 if I get change… haven’t played bartops (save for CBC a couple times) since 4Q watered down (pun intended :p) the point earning rate at then :(

90%+ of the time I am drinking soft drinks, and little cups or glasses get a smaller tip than the bigger serving sizes. The glasses at 4Q get $1, and bigger ones at GVR get more. One place I was told that only certain level cardholders received bigger serving size drinks on request. I encouraged one CW to get creative, and she was rewarded then and afterward with a bigger tip.

Started $3 min, went to $5 early post covid reopen, we saw how empty the floors were.
Haven't stopped yet, for us, it makes for a good time with good service.

TBH works way better w. VP bartenders than waitresses. More than a few remember us every time.

I love everything about Vegas, but unfortunately we don't get to see most of the American TV series. But a while ago, there was a TV show that we were also able to watch here called "Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock Hotel".

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehab:_Party_at_the_Hard_Rock_Hotel

"Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock Hotel is an American reality television docudrama on TruTV that premiered on November 11, 2008.[1] It focuses on the staff (bartenders, cocktail waitresses, security, etc.) of the Rehab pool party hosted at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and also chronicles the staff as they attempt to keep the partygoers under control while trying to do their jobs well and avoid their bosses' anger.
The series ran for 3 seasons until its cancellation in December 2010.
    "

I liked the series a lot, especially because of how they showed how the CWs had to keep everybody happy. It was a complicated game of trying to get as much tips as possible, by entertaining the guests and bringing a party vibe so they would drink a lot and tip big, but at the same time to have to keep them under control. And on the other side to keep the relations with the bartenders good by giving them just enough of your tips to keep them happy too and to ensure that they would help you with your orders quick and generous, in order for you to get good tips from the guests again. And then above all they had to keep the bosses happy as well, by running a high turnover and lots of flirt and coo, because then they would get assigned to the better spot/cabin bank/rich guests to take care of at the pool party, where there is more chances for tips.

It seemed a super complicated game where the CWs had to balance everything just right to keep everybody happy, including themselves. On one hand very impressive but on the other hand these girls came across like a bunch of super manipulating nasty "biatches", who would always talk bad about each other, make each other look bad to the bartenders and bosses to get treated better themselves and trying to steal each other's good spot, etc.

Very entertaining show, with on the background the partying pool crowd and those foolish boys who think they gain status by "letting it rain" and with the CWs feeding them drunk and encouraging them hahaha.

There was a similar show about Binions that had a lot of trainwreck flaky CW/dealer stories as viewbait.
Randomly met one of the front table dice dealers that was on that show once..
super random, she was off work w. another dealer, drank hard, hit a $800 keno hit, and vanished.

the work drama they were talking about was exactly like the reality show.

    It was called Casino Confidential,
    I think free on youtube:

    maybe on Amazon?
    Pluto?

I wouldn't advise paying for it. It's bad.

IMHO Benny Binions Horseshoe was an all time great downtown casino.

    I'm in the $3-5 club.

For me it's not a money thing when it comes to drinks, it's a time thing. When I want a drink I kinda want it then. $5 makes it happen pretty frequently.

When I was just in Tahoe, I was scoping out which table to play at in the morning. As I was sitting down the cocktail waitress had my Blood Mary order from the day before ready before I even took the cash out of my wallet. Didn't have to ask, she just brought them out whenever I was low. And somehow the size of the cup and pour got much bigger than the guy next to me tipping $1. :biker:

    Hahaha, who moi?! :)

That's what I'm doing right now and finding other great stuff on Youtube too about Vegas. It's already so much fun to hear all the sounds and seeing the sights. I was getting a bit tired of Vegas vlogs and life streams, so I'm happy with this new toy.

Once before a Vegas trip, I went to the bank and got $50 in $2 bills. They make great tips, the tellers love to get rid of them and the CWs remember you because of the novelty of it all. If they remember you, you get better service. Unless they remember you because you are a ginormous ******bag!

Me and my wife usually order together so the tip is usually a red chip. I guess that works out to $2.50 per drink? If one of us skipped the drink, I still tip a red chip though.

Not a hard and fast rule but I'd say never less than $2 per drink.
