Well for me, I don't go anywhere where they suggest you stick to bottled water but that's just me.

I wouldn't miss traveling to most of the world just because I have to drink bottled water. But that's just me ;-)

I think that is a rule for Las Vegas. Have you ever tasted their tap water?

Way too many other places I can go where I don't have to worry about drinking bottle water. I can live without ever going to Mexico thank you.

I've come down sick in Vegas more than every other travel destination combined.

I tell folks all the time: If being out of the Americano Cocoon makes you uncomfortable, that's cool. Just don't blame the water.

    1. Drink bottled water
Do this as a rule, and make sure the cap is securely sealed before you imbibe. As water based illness is a real concern in Mexico, you are apt to find bottled water wherever you find yourself, resorts, restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, resort mini-shops, you name it.

    2. Skip the ice
Generally, larger resorts and restaurants have their ice brought in by distributors, ensuring that the water is filtered before it is frozen. If you feel worried that it hasn’t been, skip it, it’s very European. It’s important to note that smaller hotels and local dining options may not have the same opportunity to filter their water, so double check, or do without.

Wow, makes me want to spend my vacation time and money in Mexico.

There are two places in the US where I won't drink tap water - Vegas, because it tastes nasty, and DC, because I lived through a boil alert/e coli outbreak there when I was in college. I drink about a gallon of water a day at home - I don't want to spend money to buy water, but I include it as a travel expense where necessary, and it just factors in among all the costs I look at when deciding on my travel plans.

I've only been to Mexico once - I'm not a beach person and I live on the East Coast, so it's just not some place that's really ever been a draw for me. But I will happily drink bottled water so I can visit Africa, Asia, South America, etc.

But we're way off topic now, so, travel where you want - it's your discretionary income, spend as you like!

You're right. You should stay in Vegas.

The rest of us realize the world is a much bigger place than the Las Vegas strip though. I'm sure you won't mind if we continue to explore it.

I believe that the Colorado River water has a high salt content and probably a lot of other stuff as well. This is due to runoff from fertilizer used for farming.

The water is still safe to drink.

Do not know what type of treatment water is given before entering LV water system.

It is primarily because the Colorado Plateau is one giant kajillion-years-old salt lick, effectively.

Colorado River also has a very high mineral content. Tasting warm, it kinda sucks, but cooled, like through a fridge dispenser, it tasted fine for the two years we lived there. Actually, even the hotel water from the bathroom faucet is tolerable. We're not that fussy I guess. We have never walked around carrying a bottle of water.

And mix it with the organic-rich state water in California ... and, well, you need a lot of treatment.
