Check-in persons often consult with their ``Manager'' before providing a ``trick'' upgrade. Do ``Managers'' routinely share in the proceeds? Is there a routine percentage deal?

    Great question!

    I'm wondering the same thing!

Actually, I sometimes wonder if there's really a manager in the back, or if they just disappear to add some drama to the experience? :D

I can't help it but every time I see the phrase "$20 trick" the image of a down-on-her-luck hooker comes to mind. Then I picture "Bugsy's" at Flamingo any night after about 1:00 am.

I think sometimes they pretend to check with a manager. I doubt if they share with a salaried manager. maybe if it is an hourly supervisor.

Have actually watched the clerk walk over and talk to (what appeared to be) a supervisor for several minutes. Now, for all I know, they could have been shit-talking my outfit or discussing the weather or something, but a conversation took place and I got a suite for basically nothing so I really don't care.

It was. I mentioned this in the $20 trick forum, but the upgrade was a Saturday night, from a standard room at Harrah's for $30 plus tax/fees to their new Valley Tower Executive Suite, which would have run about 500 bucks that night for the general public.

Not in Vegas but several years ago at the Grand in Biloxi I tried a $20 trick to get a high floor ocean view room for a one night stay during the Race for Rewards and the lady said she couldn't take the tip but hooked me up on the room. We went to the room and hook us up she did putting us in the President's Suite. I went back down to thank her and to try again to tip her but she would not take it saying she was a manager. She did mention that her husband was a bartender at the bar across the lobby so we tipped him well for two beers.

The more experienced Flamingos are certainly out at that hour, Mike!

When I see the phrase "$20 sandwich" I think, Damn. I remember when footlongs were just $5.00. :D

Or....."$20 sandwich" could be two down-on-their-luck hookers with a less than discerning patron. :p

Lots of people in Vegas must know the answer. Maybe it's a question that shouldn't be asked.

Yeah, it's like car sales. They just go in the back to laugh their ass of over how stupid we are.

Off topic, but is The Pink Taco still at Hard Rock? I am truly amazed at the number of people who don't get it.
