Based on how you describe your play, I think you will easily get free rooms at Ceasars properties and maybe more. Probably free rooms at Venetian. Casinos love $1 to $5 slot players as you describe your action. People should not play for comps but since you are playing anyway, you should stick your card where you like to play and concentrate your play at one (maybe two) casinos, and you will will be getting offers. Some of these will be "teaser" offers if you are new or haven't given tracked play at certain casinos. I do think you are leaving a bunch on the table including a way to avoid lines. Hosts will approach you if your play warrants. Let us know how it works out.

Just to expand on this discussion - does anyone have insight into how MUCH credit a host will typically receive for your play? i.e. if it's a percentage of your theoretical, approximately what is that percentage?

Not sure exactly, but they do . . . . Think about it. The host on a leap of faith provides a comp -- that has value associated with it -- and then the player low or no plays. Just as they get credit for play I assume the numbers take a hit with no play. I also assume execs assume a certain number of guests will no or low play but I wouldn't want to be the host that has a lot of those players in any given month or quarter.

I once had a host at Palace Station -- this was years ago -- call and tell me I "need to play more." I will never forget that. WTF? Yeah, I'm sure it doesn't look good for hosts when that happens.

I've seen 12% of theo for a commission-based job and I've also seen salaried hosts that have quarterly or annual incentives where they either hit it and bonus or miss it and do not bonus.

With mLife though, the offers are from corporate, no? So, they wouldn't be the ones providing the comp unless they're providing "add-ons" to the corporate comp offer or by providing a higher room type than what the corporate offer allowed for.

Corporate offers or marketing offers from a casino are from the marketing department and if they are not booked through a host, they are not responsible for the player to meet a certain play requirement.

Depending on the casino or casino group host have the ability to take chances on new players to build their business, thus the reason why hosts are willing to match offers or provide an offer based on play at another property. A host number one business objective is to build their book of business and increase their quarterly theoretical numbers.

When a new player or existing player comes in from an invitation from a host, the host is responsible for the player to cover the comp criteria to justify the comps they are issuing. If the player does not meet the comp criteria the host has to justify it to his boss as to why the player was over comped.

Can't speak to MLIFe but but that's the way CET works and other companies. What my Wynncore host provides me, however, is a bespoke offer. Even with the corporate offers, however, if you are tied to a host I assume a low or no play still affects their numbers.

I've had a similar experience about 10 years ago. I was staying at Mandalay Bay and I most definitely put in my 4 hours per day that they are looking for. Near the end of my trip, I was up $7k and during my checkout at the VIP desk, my host walks in and she told me to go "play more". It makes me think they get more commission based on losses rather than theo. But regardless, I didn't like that she asked me to play more. I haven't spoken to her or stayed at Mandalay since.

I have experienced the same conversation with a previous host. I'd been making regular trips to Vegas for years and enjoyed lots of comps. One trip, I brought my girlfriend who is now my wife and my level of play dropped because she was the focus during the trip. I wanted to make sure she was having a good time. I think it was on the 3rd day of a 5 day trip that I got a call from my host to come to his office when I had a moment. When I got to his office, he turned his monitor around and showed me my play, by hotel since I got there. He told me that while he hopes I have lots of luck, he really doesn't care how much I win or lose, it's about the time of play per day. He stated that he needed 4 hours a day from me... win, lose or draw. If I couldn't do that, then my back end comps go away and he won't be able to do anything extra for me in the future... like those orchestra tickets to see Shania, Reba/Brooks and Dunn, etc...
It was a wake up call for me and I wasn't upset. This is a business and they need play to keep the lights on. They know how much they can average per player with minimum amounts of play per day. Again, it isn't about bankroll, it's about time. I've been Diamond for as long as I can remember and have never had to bring a 5k bankroll. I'm a heavy VP player and I give them 4 hours every single day. I try my best to hit at least 2- 2500TC days and with some luck that I can do that, I maintain my Diamond level in one trip.

Most of Las Vegas properties if not all are compensated based upon theoretical, they do get bonuses for annual profit which ties into losses but their main compensation is tied to theoretical. Thus they are very concerned with the player covering their comp. If you look at California such as the Barona or properties in the islands they are compensated on actual loss.

A lot of hosts do not want to comp if a player has a win vs a loss because they are concerned the player will not look profitable to their management. I think this is ridiculous and I stay away from those properties as they are short sighted. The smart host wants the player to win and have more bankroll to play longer and thus have a higher trip theoretical if they are comped on theoretical.

in regards to the 4 hours of play per day, this is stated to the player because the majority of players do not understand the concept of theoretical. This gives the host the power over the player because they don't really know what they qualify for on the backend if they don't understand theoretical and how the resort comps based on theoretical or actual loss. The host like to keep things vague by saying play a few more hours or I need more play, this keeps them in power of the player. For example a player can cover their comps if they have a large enough bet in 2 hours a day vs 4 hours a day. The casino would prefer you to play 4 hours vs 2 since the longer you play the more the house edge has time to work against you. However, it always comes down to theoretical or actual loss.

If you understand theoretical and comp policies of the resort you play at then it is just a conversation of making sure that you have covered your comps and max out what you have earned. At the end of my trip I verify my trip theoretical with my host and make sure any overages from my RFB is covered such as retail, spa, golf, etc.. are covered. If I have a significant loss I get a loss rebate issued.

With a $5k bankroll - you would easily get free room offers and maybe some other stuff.

I can not think of one single reason to NOT use a players card.

I experienced this in one of my past trips to Cosmo where I explained it in more detail on my TR on VMB. The VIP host on duty told me directly that the Cosmo isn't interested in comping you fully if you win. However, there is room to negotiate if you lose. So yeah, it's not all based on theoretical as many posts in this thread has indicated. This has only happened to one of my trips to Cosmo whereas others have been fully comped. So I tend to think it's dependent on the mood of WHO you speak to when checking out.

Personally, I tend to go with upfront offers and not worry much about the backend and dealing with a host. I often get enough FB credit to cover expenses.

So - for those that have an aversion to dealing with a host for comps - use your card and look for the upfront offers that have No requirement for play. (of course taking an offer and low or no play will impact future offers)

Oh I totally get hosts being concerned about low play. I guess I should have added above that I didn't think that call was warranted but even if it was on merit, I still thought it was unprofessional how it was handled. And this was at Palace Station . .
a place I really like but still, it's Palace Station. There's not much to comp beyond the room, some meals and free play.

This is one of the many reasons why I like Wynn. Most of my trips are not winning ones but in the ones that were winning I never got as much of a hint from my host that that would affect my back end comps. In my experience, based on conversations with my host at least, the focus is heavily on theoretical, not on whether you win or lose, unless the loss is significant, in which case the rebate and other benefits come into play. I don't get cash back but I have had my host more than once provide significant free play at the end of a losing trip and at the beginning of the next one if the losses were significant.

Agreed, as I mentioned before the majority if not all Las Vegas casinos are focused on theoretical. Wynn in my opinion is the best about this and does not care if you have a winning trip vs other casinos I have experiences that did try to cut back comps due to a wining trip.
