Oh, that hurts. It hurts a lot.

Guessing you do not want us to tell her that "write off" really means you get a 35% discount (or less) on those expenses? LOL = guessing she may be like most people that think they write off the total expense of dinners, room, etc.

    Two words: "Bet it!"
If I were to have a "jackpot" type win ($500+...and it's only ever happened twice), I either go to the crap table with it, or I move up to green chips playing blackjack.

I see those kind of wins as "bonus" money, and I treat them accordingly.

Last time I went I won $3k on my first day! We stayed for 5 days - it lasted me until our last day and then my husband won $1k - all in all a good trip - but that $3k was gone on day 4 1/2!

This happened my last trip in November. I was down about $700 the first night. Won $650 (WW3 on 50 cent bet) right before I headed to bed. It makes me "almost even" for the night. Good enough for me--I added it to my bankroll for the trip. I considered it "playing for free" for the first night.

If it's in the beginning of the trip I save it and put it aside from my regular daily budget. Towards the end of the trip IF I'm not doing well I might try for a Hail Mary before going home. Otherwise it goes home for the next trip.

I play to win when I gamble but it's all a game to me. Entertainment. I don't expect anything other than having a good time. Coming out ahead is a plus.

Depends on the bankroll, althoughI was happy last trip to come home even after food, clothes purchases and the wife's Tiffany visit! We agreed before we went, anything over a $1k win on a single bet and we would go to Tiffany - won $2,500 so off we went! On the Last night she won $1200 which will do nicely for our trip in October and no need to get any more dollars (we are from the UK and rates are not looking good) so my stash is ready and waiting. We gambled all we wanted, had some great meals and a fantastic trip - as long as you enjoy it and can afford your wins/losses it doesn't really matter....

I like that idea. I have won more than $1200 and yes over the course of a trip given it back. Also had lots of times where I cashed out tickets that totalled well more than $1200 but with no W2G.

I may try this idea next time or if not $1200+, $2k+ when I can ask for a check for the amount. A check from the casino can easily be converted back to cash but I'm less likely to do that than I am to play with 2K if I got it all in cash.

I gamble about the same amount overall on every trip. If I get ahead big early, due to a handpay or otherwise, it mostly means I come home with more than I otherwise would, so I guess that is kind of like setting the winnings aside. But I'll also usually take a little of it (say up to $500 or so) and make a few high stakes bets and try to catch lightning in a bottle.

Yeah $500 is not enough money even for me to lock in a win. But, I would just go about and play normally, not over my head or differently as others suggested.

Any win over a couple hundred dollars would get me off the machine. Any money under $1000 would just go into my bankroll. Anything over $1000, it would depend where in the trip I am, both timewise and financially.

    Save it.

For the most part a significant win does not affect our gambling budget.

If it is a large amount we might add a small percentage to our gambling budget.

Sometimes I will take winnings and try to parlay it on a sports wager.

    Do you spend your winnings?

I've been up $1000 in the past and have been extremely happy, but then the next day I've given it all back plus more with nothing to show. Sometimes I think I should just take out some winnings and spend it.

This last trip, I was up $550 and I ended up buying stuff with $100 cash from my bankroll, in case I lost my bankroll again. Kind of felt good. Feels kind of crazy to be happy about spending $100.

Do you keep your winnings in your "gambling budget" or do you spend them?

Well since I have to drag my better half with me wherever I go, would do a 50-50 split and each run to the nearest slot to see who can:
    a) lose it the fastest or
    b) who can turn it back into $500

If it turned into another win for my better half - it would be taken to the room for the trip home.
If it turned into another win for me, unless it's at least 1k, that money will not make it back to the room - I came to play - win, lose, or draw - wait a minute, I don't play table games. So back to the slots I go.

If we win a large amount, chances are most of it will come home with us. Also, it depends on at what point we are in the trip. We were once down $5K and we won it all back plus $800 and we were pretty happy with that! If they are smaller wins, they just get spent again, more time playing!

If I get up money in the few hundred to a few thousand dollars I will try to press hard and go for a home run.. basically use the "free money" to try to win big. like 10k big!

You don't do anything responsible with gambling winnings. They are to be blown on clothes, electronics, car stuff, guns, etc. Cool stuff. :)
