I don't normally bet on sports so I am not too familiar with sportsbooks
but i made some NFL bets at caesars palace before leaving yesterday morning

i bet the steelers to win the game against the KC Chiefs, win the division, and win the superbowl
placed the bet at about 8:30 a.m. on January 15, 2017

i got +2 line for steelers against chiefs
+275 for steelers to win the division
+550 for steelers to win the superbowl
but when i checked the lines online afterwards, i saw a HUGE difference in what i got at caesars and what i see online

i saw +800 to +900 for steelers superbowl all over the internet for vegas odds
(i think the division odds were about +500)

    so what's going on?
can the odds be different at a certain sportsbook by that much?

TODAY the line for steelers to win the superbowl is +400 so my bet is better than what is offered right now
however, i made my bet before the steelers won the game over the chiefs with 6 field goals

Where did you see +800 +900? It's around +500 at the books I know for the SB win, odds are always a bit different but not by that much. Steelers closed at +2.5 for that game, any points was a good bet because they opened at -1.5.

I was seeing between 8 and 9 to 1. You should always shop your bet when you can.

i didn't think it was going to be that big of a difference
i figured caesars palace is a big sportsbook and they would have the same odds as everywhere else

    oh well
i wish i had gotten the bet at +900 ....... but i will just console myself that at least my +550 is better than the +400 it is now

    BTW
do the books post the lines? i was trying to find it on caesars website yesterday after i discovered the discrepancy in the lines but didn't see anything
they just have everything on their boards and on the print outs?

In the end it wont really matter seeing as the steelers arent going to the superbowl.

if that happens, then i won't even care

but if somehow steelers do win the Superbowl... then i'm going to be kicking myself for not making sure that i got the best odds possible on the bet

shopping odds is just like shopping for groceries, tvs, or anything else.. everyone has their own prices and it is up to the customer to shop around if you want the best deal.. i bet the steelers as a pickem and I did mine online.

Steelers 4/1 for Super Bowl same as packers
I just feel packers have better chance than steelers. Yes true Rodgers did it all against cowboys. Ben didn't even have a touchdown 6 time in NFL history for a team to advance without a touchdown. Rodgers will take packers to Super Bowl he is on fire

Yes, unfortunately you got shafted. The odds they gave you are as much as 50% less than the best lines available at the time for division and SB winner.

do shop around. especially if it is a super long shot bet, they can vary greatly.

He didn't get shafted, he just didn't shop.

On any given game, the odds will be fairly close around every shop. But, when you are talking about a futures bet, the shop does it's best to limit its liability. If they had Pittsburgh at those odds, it is most likely because they are holding too much money on Pittsburgh futures, and simply don't want any more money on them. Thus, they drive down the price.

Just a question for the OP, was the +900 you saw listed for another casino or an online off-shore site? There is some differences between the various Vegas books, but usually they pretty close, even on futures bets. Online betting sites, however, often give better odds (especially on futures) as an inducement to use their services

and sometimes you are looking at what the odds are really estimated to be, but that don't mean that you can find someone paying that without some kind of gimmick.

Online odds will always be higher than whatever you can get in Las Vegas. That's how they get cash. But yes you ALWAYS have to shop around to CET, Mlife, Boyd, William Hill or whomever. Cross the street or go next door. Pretty simple.

If you were betting on whether Pittsbuegh was winning the DIVISION you were over 4 months late. Given that only four teams remain now instead of eight, I am surprised the odds didnt drop more. But then again, seeing how Pittsburgh can't seem to ever beat the Patriots in New England, maybe I shouldn't have been

    anyway
    i learned my lessons
i think i should just stick to table games and skip the sportsbook next time :poker:

I'll still call it a shafting. Surprised CP sportsbook lines were so bad considering what the true market was at the time. What price are CP now on Pitts to win SB?

Vegas insider (on line) was constantly changing (daily) for futures but they only listed one number. I thought they (Pittsburgh) were 17/2 when I left the 7th because I was interested in them and Atlanta as dark horses. When I got there (the 7th) they were 15/1 and Atlanta was 24/1 or something. I waited to see how my bets came out to pull the trigger but no bullets.
I think (now) that is a good bet......pick 2 or 3 teams and bet moderately. If one or both teams make it you have a much better money line bet than you could get the day of the game. Good luck.
