"The Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino rumor mill is once again churning, and the latest gossip is that the off-Strip property is headed for demolition to make way for a Major League Baseball (MLB) ballpark."

The link above was from a story which popped up on my Facebook feed... so you know it's validity is under question. The article references Vital Vegas. I don't think the site is big enough. Traffic can be bad on Flamingo as it is. Would GC and Palms want a park that close? Has anyone heard anything?

If Tampa builds their park, there's not really an MLB team available. Everyone else has their stadium situations figured out for the forseeable future, I think. Maybe Oakland?

Wow.....it is the Rays and A's that have stadium issues...

I see one moving to Vegas and the other to Montreal for the Expos-Mach II

Building a ballpark could cause traffic gridlock during MLB season on Flamingo Road. It'd be a nightmare, especially that close to I-15 and LVB.

That's what I was thinking. A site like the NFL stadium, maybe along 215, 515 or the beltway, makes more sense.

( I was editing my post to add the traffic issue when your response came in.)

    There is no way I'm going to a website with a URL with as much bullshit in it as: "w w w - c a s i n o - o r g . c d n . a m p p r o j e c t . o r g / c / s / w w w . c a s i n o . o r g" There is so much obfuscation going on in there it isn't even funny. This is the type of URL you'd expect on a phishing website.

Big site, when you think about all the parking, the convention facility. And despite Flamingo, good access points from the north. Rio's tried, done. Adios. And that's not from someone with no experience there, we've stayed many a night, had many a meal there.

Hey when they played at Olympic Stadium it was indoors. Of course, that's because it was a retractable roof that stopped working so they just left it shut. And that it wouldn't be snow falling on you, but chunks of concrete from the roof.

I loved going up there for games though. 2nd row behind home plate for $20 Canadian.

I have no attachment to the Rio and have no problem with it being taken down for another project, I just don't see this as feasible. Baseball is my favorite sport and I would absolutely go when in town, but I don't see an MLB team as being sustainable in Vegas.

But do these cities require winter tires until March 15th?

And here I thought he was a fan of Nashville Hockey!

I didn't realize it either until I just googled it. Apparently Commissioner Manfred has it on his short list for expansion.

From a Deadspin article dated 7/19/18:
"Manfred then went on to list potential cities “that I think are not only interested in having baseball, but are viable in terms of baseball ... Portland, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Nashville in the United States, certainly Montreal, maybe Vancouver, in Canada. We think there’s places in Mexico we could go over the long haul.

Haha! Had to google that one. "Expos" just reminded me of that old joke about Peewee Herman's two favorite baseball teams. I just Vegas-ized it.

Montreal? The attendance was legendary----bad. I'd be quite surprised if mlb repeated that horrible mistake...wonderful city however
