My "home base" is MGM but, I have a conference at Mandalay Bay in April. I'm debating on staying at Delano (have a free suite corp offer). Has anyone stayed there since the horrible shooting that happened? Is the vibe back to what it was? I don't mean to offend anyone I'm just wondering whats its like. Hope that makes sense. I like the upbeat feel I always get at MGM but, taxi back n forth gets old.
I can't say I've ever thought Mandalay Bay was upbeat - before the shooting or i'm sure after when we go in June. One of the reasons we stay at MB is because it's very much more quiet, laid back and doesn't get all the cross traffic of mid strip, but is still on the strip. Not like Aria or Cosmo anyway - even the pools are pretty quiet - with or without the kids.
I don't know if the vibe is back to what it was, I also thought MB/Delano was pretty laid back and much less crowded feeling than MGM Grand, although I liked them both. I'd stay at Delano just to check it out and save the running around. The full suites are nice even though they're not huge.
I'm a big fan of Delano, but I'd stay there just for convenience. When I'm at a conference, sometimes I'll skip a session to head back to my room for a few to relax. It's nice to have that option.
MB/Delano has never had the "upbeat" vibe that MGM does. It's a huge spread out resort and you never have that feeling of being in a mass of humanity like at MGM on a busy weekend. Delano is even less so, they cultivate a very relaxed vibe there, if upbeat is your thing you may not enjoy it. That being said, I love MB/Delano. The standard Delano suite is a great size and I would stay there again without hesitation. I make a pilgrimage to Skyfall lounge every time I'm in town, easily the best view in Vegas. MB is also on par with MGM on food choices. If you're going to be there anyway make it easy on yourself and give it a try.
I haven’t been there since the “incident”, but I vote Delano all day long. The rooms are great and I love the entire MB complex in general. Since your conference is there I wouldn’t even think twice.
I stayed at Delano at the end of December. I loved it. My room was great - it was nice having a true suite. It has its own quiet vibe, but a short walk to the casino at MB and the pathway to Luxor. Short walk for morning coffee too. (There’s also coffee pods in the room but they cost $5) Only “problem” I encountered was trying to make it back to my room when the MJ One show was ending - the walkway was completely crowded and difficult to through.
Depending on where you're, you can cut through Delano valet to save a bit of time, especially when MJ One is ending and it's a standstill in that area. Just exit out by Wolfgang's/Light.
Since the Oct 1 incident, we've stayed on Mandalay Bay property three times (once at Delano, twice at Mandalay Bay). We arrived Monday, October 2, less than 24 hours post-incident, and, as one would expect, the property was very quiet for the first few days. On our subsequent trips (Dec 29-Jan 5 and Feb 3-7) everything seems to be back to the normal, generally laid back vibe.
Agree, I used to do that all the time in both directions. Out the Delano entrance, up a hundred feet or so on the left into the entrance to Restaurant Row at MB.
