Or their internal research is showing this will boost next quarter's earnings per share.

The average customer would love 5 dollar tables, but 5 dollar tables can't be run at a profit the traditional way. That's where the advent of stadium gaming took off. It's not affordable to deal Black Jack at a 5 dollar table with 7 players, but create seating for 25 or 30 and then use less cards by only dealing 2 hands and even the fact that the game is slower (fixed wait time between deals) it's much easier to turn a profit. Add in the fact that they can let you access roulette, baccarat, and or other games at the same time and you can have an average player playing 3 different table games at 5 bucks apiece and letting them make money. Also doubling down on the fact that this is a less intimidating way to break into tables and it all makes sense for the casinos.

At Hard Rock in AC they even incorporated their drink ordering system on to the screens so the waitresses are only coming with drinks instead of taking orders and then coming back.

I would be interested in a count of video blackjack, craps, and roulette games and that change over time. It's not as simple as tables vs slots. Certainly I see thinks like the old Toby Keith pit at Harrahs now being pure slots. But some of the slot floor also has bubble craps and stuff like that now.

It's surely casino by casino, with places like Cromwell having more notable reductions. Flamingo wasn't terribly down when I was there in June; those tables in the back were closed a lot of the time anyway.

I agree this is super gross, from a blackjack player perspective. Favorite dive casino on the strip was always Casino Royale - no tables at all anymore. Just loved the vibe and seeing the same dealers year in and year out for 15 years. Next trip in Sept (assuming Vegas is open) is half downtown and half strip - solely because the games are gone on strip...

Were previous trips all Strip or all downtown?

It seems like you can still find 3/2 blackjack downtown at the $10 level.

I used to stay on strip, and have added Downtown now to find a range of 3:2 BJ.

Sometimes I forget that a lot of people don't frequent AC. For reference, Tropican, Caesars, Harrahs and Hard Rock all have an on screen ordering system that adjusts, by player's club status what drink you can get and to some degree how often (Tropicana is set to only permit an alcoholic drink once every 10 minutes). On a slow morning last trip I actually asked the waitress if they liked it and she said she was 50/50. She likes not having to take an order and go back and get it and then come back, but she said being able to easily order on screen makes people move around more after they place and order and they can be hard to find.

I'm honestly floored it hasn't happened yet in LV since it could allow for reduced staffing (waitresses can cover twice as much ground), control over ordering requirements, and greater efficiency since there is no need for a customer to ask what is and isn't available.

Totally agree. I literally cannot see a downside to it from a player's perspective. That waitress wouldn't have to worry about me because once I place a drink order, you'd need a bulldozer to move me before it shows up. The only possible caveat is that it might make it impossible to get a beer and a shot if there are restrictions built into the computer on what you can/can't order. You can't always do that in Vegas either, but more often than not, cocktail waitresses have been willing to do this for me when I tell them that it will save them a trip and I always double my tip as well.

It would for sure make it impossible, but at everywhere other than Tropicana you can immediately order your next drink as soon as the first is delivered. That being said, I don't really recall them doing any shots as just a shot and only some options for alcohol neat. Even a couple drinks my wife ordered thinking they were shots (kamikaze) were served on the rocks. You can always ask the waitress though as I have to since I like sugar free redbull and so usually I order a sugar free red bull then order a grey goose rocks. By the second time she has it figured out and brings both lol

Mehaffey walked the Strip today and tweeted that it looked like Encore and Palazzo had reduced tables from a year ago. The numbers at a few CET properties in the same tweet look similar to his July numbers. He said he's gonna have more of a rundown summary later in the week:

I've been in bars that always served kamikaze on the rocks. I think that one specifically is a drink that can go either way, depending on who is serving it.

I have notice Paris has been cutting back over the years.
Each time we walk through there were less and less tables opened.

With regards to "doing what the customer wants" is bull because they used that same excuse about Resort Fees.
"The customer prefer paying resort fees instead of having to pay for individual things."
Based on the various threads here, I have yet encountered anyone who claimed "Yeah, Resort Fees are great."

I agree, i prefer it as a drink, but in AC it's actually filed under the shots tab on the drink ordering system which is why she was confused.

While I don't like it, it really is not a surprise.

Without covid, this likely would have happened a bit slower but still been the long term trend. But then you throw in laying a bunch of people off when things were closed or slow, and the higher costs associated with a labor shortage in ramping back up again (not to mention in pandemic costs with screens/etc at the table), and they probably cut deeper/quicker than they otherwise would have.

I noticed this big time on my August trip. Cromwell used to be my favorite place to gamble on the strip but they've since taken out what seems to be half of the tables. You can still find the games but the energy has been sucked out of the place.

I noticed the same thing at several other casinos but I took particular note of it at Cromwell.

It does have me longing for the days when slots were a sideshow. I know people like them but I can't grasp the appeal of going on vacation and just replacing all that screen time at home with more screen time on vacation.

I agree, Cromwell opened as a cool, classy place for table games and is quickly morphing into a lame little slot joint that functions as a waiting area for a club.

I stayed there recently and the casino was a little depressing. No playable VP, no atmosphere at table games. Lots of the little luxuries have been eliminated in the hotel. Amazing shower/water pressure, though…I took two showers a day for the fun of it lol.
