I'm surprised at the varying opinions on this topic. I guess my criteria for a dark casino meant how hard it was to see yes but more so how the dark room colors, carpets, and decorations were giving a feeling of a dark ambiance.

The Monte Carlo, from what I remember, had very dark colors, woodwork, carpets, and decorations with especially low lighting creating a feeling in me of an almost depression.

^^This is exactly it for me. The low ceilings are definately part of the appeal. Low light, low ceilings, and dark colors.

Binions is pretty dark, but the old Caesars may have been best.

I agree that Binions is pretty dark.

You want dark AND depressing? Walk into the Las Vegas Club.

MGM and Mirage is pretty dark too.

Palazzo anybody? It always felt so dark and even run down for some reason. It must be that when you walk out to the shops everything is really right and there's a grand waterfall.

The back of the Rio by the Masquerade elevators is dark as they get, but those slots back there pay.

Aria is pretty dark, although I was only there briefly. I'll be there later this year; perhaps it will be brighter this time!

Binions, and at least the last time I was at Aria, I felt it was dark. However, that trip was over a year ago.

Gold Coast is so BRIGHT and so is Mandalay Bay!!! I love them so. Bright is beautiful.

I agree with all of the assessments on here! Hard Rock is too darn dark. It feels like all the lights are out. Palms is a little shady too. Monte Carlo seems like they dimmed the lights and it just adds to their sleepy vibe. And I do not visit Mirage or stay in Mirage because the casino is too dark for my liking (particularly the carpet if I remember well). It always feels like nighttime in Casino Royale--a black backdrop indeed--but it's a great touch to the seediness. Aria is seriously moody but it works for Aria (imho)!
