I have read that there is an Uber shortage due to COVID. Is this true?
What is the availability to/from non-resort destinations?

It was still apparent in July. Some trip requests quoted a 20 to 30 minute rate and $30+ for what usually was $15 in the past. Cabs were easier in those scenarios. Although did have trouble one Sunday AM hailing a cab at Circa.

You can get on the app and enter destinations/pickups to see how they are right now.

It just really varies on demand and number of drivers available at the time you're requesting. There were some times during covid that it was nearly impossible to find one, or at least an affordable one. I would suggest having the Uber and Lyft apps available and as a backup if the prices & waits are insane, just call a cab.

In early august, uber and lyft wait times were very long and prices were triple what was normal. I just used the regular cab.

I'd suggest check lyft/uber and then just use the cab if its cheaper.

I had a few long wait times/pricier rides when I was there in July. Majority of my trips were when I was grabbing dinner (6:30-7:30 time-frame). Towards the end of my trip, I started to schedule my Ubers ahead of time. Worked out well and saved some money doing it this way.

    This is the correct answer.

It is going to be different on a weekend with a big game/fight and a random Tuesday. Daytime is better than dinner time. Supply/Demand.

Have backup plans for your backup plans and you should be fine. :)

Have both apps and check them. Taxis or the monorails/trams are your backup plan.

I was there a couple weeks ago (end of August)
For every trip I needed I opened up both Lyft and Uber to check.
Uber seemed to be much more susceptible to Surge pricing then Lyft.
I arrived at the airport on Saturday at 5pm.. Uber to The D was $61, Lyft to The D was $23 (WWE Summerslam was right around that time)
Every other time the apps were within $5 of each other and it went back and forth on who was cheaper. (but $3-$5 per trip adds up quickly)
Generally the estimated wait time was the same for both apps (a lot of drivers use both so they would be just as close regardless of the app you use)

I had wait times of 1 minute to 15 minutes with the average being around 8 minutes.
I never took Uber/Lyft to non casinos but I did take a couple off strip to places like Jerry's Nugget and M Resort. leaving those off strip locations the wait times were closer to the 10-15 min wait times.
Using both apps I never felt like a Tax would be cheaper then the option I took from Uber/Lyft.

So overall I would tell people not to be concerned about the Rideshare situation. It is only slightly slower then it was pre-pandemic.
Like everything, inflation is a thing and prices are going to be more then you remember last time you used it even if you pick the cheapest option of the 3 (Cab, Uber, Lyft)

I was there in June. The rideshare area at McCarran was packed with people waiting and both Uber and Lyft were showing me $45 to get to The D. I'd already booked a private sedan for less so was just looking out of curiosity for future trips. I've booked another sedan pickup for my upcoming trip to be on the safe side. But once I was downtown, prices and waits seemed pretty normal.

I've never had luck calling a cab in Vegas, yeah if they're lined up outside hotel/casino that's one thing but I found out the hard way you call for a cab, they say they'll be there but no one comes.

Then you call again and the merry go round continues.

I was just there last weekend and only used Lyft twice to get to and from the airport, but there was no wait and pricing was normal (less than $14 to get to/from Mandalay Bay).

Wasn’t an issue with this past week and not crazy pricing. Was able to get an Uber for example off strip at herbs and rye after midnight within 3 minutes. Airport was 4 minutes out.

I was at Vegas yesterday. Wait times with both Uber/Lyft were short. Prices were 2x-4x of what it was 1 year ago.

It's mostly fine now. Oddly, it was $8 to get to my bank, and $20+ to get back. They still have trouble finding their way around, so if you're within the resort corridor, a regular taxi is probably the way to go, though.
