    My Trip Report

My family and I were traveling from Omaha, Nebraska to just north of Los Angeles for a move across the country. After a night in Denver and a night in Utah, I had my kids looking forward to a couple days of "oasis" after traveling in a car for 1300 miles over the course of 2.5 days.

Enter Las Vegas. Got into town on the 1st and checked in at Mandalay Bay at around 1:45. 2 Qn Bed room wasn't ready yet so we get the upsell to the suite at Delano for 30 a night... We have quite a few bags that the bellman didn't take and I didn't want to wait in line to check in again. We accepted. In hindsight, that kinda sucked because to get my kids to the pool, we had to haul through the MB casino every time. Had I known he was giving us the Delano tower, I would have declined. I thought he was keeping us in the MB towers. Nonetheless, the room was beautiful and our kids loved the view of the pool.

From my other post, we signed up for the 150 resort credit through the Royal Caribbean offer and got a short list of places we could use it at. I was not happy about this. We took our kids on the tram to Excalibur and then to M&M and Coke world. As a family, we tried the world of cokes and it was pretty interesting to try the different flavors from around the world. That night, we ate at the MB buffet and it was... meh. Not great. Decent meat choices, my daughter liked the sushi, but other than that it was pretty forgettable. After that, we longhauled to Delano, changed and went to the pool until about 8. Wiped my wife, kids, and I right out. End of night 1.

Next day, we wake up and hit up the MB Buffet for brunch since that's one of the very few places we can use our resort credit on. Again, it was blah. We went to the pool for an hour that morning before retiring to our room to change for the day. We started our day of adventure at the Shark Reef (thanks Myvegas, I would NOT pay 25 something for that!) and our kids really enjoyed it. I couldn't believe the whole thing was like 25-30 minutes. We weren't rushing through it either... Next stop was the Orleans where my wife and I utilized the phenomenal kid drop off area. My kids had a BLAST there. They could not stop talking about it. In the meantime, my wife and I went downstairs and won 120 bucks playing blackjack together. We decided it was time to call it quits when a guy dropped down 1700 dollars at a five dollar table. He smelled drunk... good cue to leave. We then got our kids who really didn't want to leave the kids area to see Captain Underpants at the Orleans. My kids loved it! That's also a super nice theater with the power reclining seats. We then met up with some friends in far NW Vegas at Claim Jumper for dinner and then took our kids to a splash pad park combo. They were worn out by the end of the day! That night, my wife and I still had a lot of resort credit left to use so we ordered a crap ton of room service. We'd never had room service before and it was a real treat even if the food wasn't great.

My wife went to bed and I told her I was going to run down to the casino for a little bit. I brought 40 dollars with me. I put it into the electronic craps game and a guy proceeded to roll for over an hour without a 7 out. My 40 bucks ended up being 696. But I still felt a little empty. I wanted to throw the dice. I plop down 100 of my winnings and get a chance to throw. After I 7 out, I'm up 80. Two brand new guys who've never played before hop in and that was my indicator to give em a chance and hang around. They were fumbling chips, putting mad money down, constantly talking with the dealers about smart wagers to make. The best part? They kept hitting point after point. 45 minutes later and I leave 650 dollars. I wanted to roll again, but this time a couple slid in between me and the previous shooter and I took that as my green light to roll out.

Saturday was uneventful before making the long drive just north of LA.

Nice report! It sounds like you made the most of the stop with the kids in tow.

It's too late for the tip, but you can bypass a good chunk of the casino from the Delano to the pool. From the Delano lobby, you can cut through the garage to the doors that enter the "restaurant row" by Light, Red Square, etc. then over to the pool entrance.
