Thinking about stopping by on my way to Colorado Springs soon. Anybody have any good info regarding where to eat, stay, gamble? Thanks!

Can’t help you with your question, but seeing the name Cripple Creek brought back a funny memory. In the 90’s the federal Dept of Justice had a program, which may still be going on, where 5 communities, nationwide, would each send 5 representatives to Colorado Springs for a 1-week comprehensive program on the “ins and outs” of building a metropolitan jail.

I went with our Sheriff, Finance Director and a couple other folks and met up with 4 other cities/counties who were proposing to build new jails in their respective jurisdictions.

Each day, we’d have breakfast at 7 am and then basically have class all day till 5pm (M-F).
There was a county attending from North Carolina and those guys talked incessantly at breakfast and lunch on the first day about Cripple Creek. At 5:01 pm they were loaded in their rental Suburban and off to Cripple Creek!

The next morning we didn’t see them at breakfast, but they wandered in a bit late, one at a time, for the first session. They each looked like death warmed-over and struggled through the day, but at 5:01 pm they were back in that damn vehicle and off to Cripple Creek again!!!

Rinse and repeat for every day we were there in Colorado Springs... I don’t know how their jail turned out, but they sure had a great time up in Cripple Creek!!!

Years ago my daughter had a basketball tournament in Cripple Creek and while her friends brown bagged it for lunch break, I took her and my son to Bronco Billy's for lunch. We all had a huge meal there, though I was a little concerned about her playing after such a feast. She was moving a bit slower on the court afterward but she toughed it out and didn't hurl!

We visit Cripple Creek a few times a year. There are three main areas now, but one area has the most casinos. We park in the garage at the triple crown which is next to Century casino and across the street from Bronco Billy's. There are a few more places up from there that we visit. Then there is the area where the Double Eagle is, there used to be more up that way, but it's mostly empty buildings now. The newest is the Wildwood casino, but it's further up the road away from the others.

We usually do day trips, but stayed once at the midnight rose casino and the rooms were plain but nice. There are plans for a couple places to be expanding and adding more rooms, but I don't expect those to be completed for years.

As for food, we used to always eat at Maggie's in the Colorado Grand, but it's been several years since we've gone as we now end up at Wildwood's diner for cheap eats.

Bronco Billy’s has a pretty good steakhouse. Also the cafe in BB’s has a breakfast like 6-10 am that coat $.49 ! 4 or 5 items to pick from, 2 egg cheese omelet-hash browns and toast. Biscuits and gravy and a few others. Heck maybe coffee is $8?
