This topic often comes up on VMB. Feb 10th we checked into the Cal and gave them a credit card. It was a comped room and at check out there were no charges. Anyway, that charge has been pending on my card since then. Yesterday, 3/1 it finally disappeared.

That seems like a long time for a hold. It didn't matter to me and it became part of my morning ritual to log into my account and see if the charge was still pending, just out of curiosity. Well, I actually log-in to all six cards everyday and check charges. I have a macro to do it, so it's pretty quick.

Three weeks is way above the norm for an auth to be removed. Definitely a glitch.

Good idea to check your accounts frequently, even if you have alerts turned on (most now offer text alerts for activity on your account). Alerts aren't 100% as sometimes that part of the system doesn't function properly and sometimes they aren't timely. And anyone who thought changing to chips without also requiring a pin was going to make a big difference, it doesn't. I see the daily fraud reports and fraud is as rampant as ever. Even the IRS is starting to require PINS's (control numbers) on W2's.

This happened to me in Dec. at the Cal. Was 18 days before charge was removed. Same week stayed at MSS and charge was gone day after check out. Also all comped nights.

I think the longest I have seen a hold is seven days and I think that is to long. In my opinion those should be released just as quickly as they are held. I never understood why card companys do not put the money back on as soon as the refund/release is issued just as they take it just as soon as its charged.

that is way too long. the Cal needs to fix their system.

I also log into my credit cards, bank, brokerage and 401k every day just to make sure things are on the up and up.

Last trip at Caesar's they did something weird with the hold. Normally everywhere else I've been the place will hold x amount per night. I'm used to the $150 per night at Palazzo.

The diamond check in only charged $200 total for four nights and once I'd hit that $200 charged to the room they'd hit my card for another $100. Never saw that before.

you need to share this script/macro. That being said, the charges usually wipe after a week in my experience. Doesn't phase me, but I know people who freak out about hotel charges. I know I did when I was younger for sure...glad those days are behind me...very stressful

Last 2 visits to Mirage: 21 days, last 2 trips to Cosmo: 14 and 18 days. Definitely a glitch? Hard to believe.

I use Firefox for my main browser and they have an add on named iMacros. I program my log-in & PW for each card one time and save it. After that, 1 click logs me into the cards. I have to do each site separately, but I have 4 Chase cards so they all show up on the same site. AMEX and CITI for the other two.

Exactly the same thing happened to us at CP for christmas. $200 "hold", then we charged Absinthe tickets to the room. then anything after that was hit for $100 each time. (even a $25 food court meal the morning of checkout)
It's weird too because Harrahs just a few weeks ago..no cc hold at check in (clerk ASKED us if we'd like to leave one and we said NO, so he said OK

Even the IRS is starting to require PINS's (control numbers) on W2's.

Control numbers have been around for quite some time and they are internal numbers used by the company's payroll department. The IRS has introduced verification numbers over the last couple of years as an optional field on W2s. I see numerous W2s through out the course of a tax season and I have yet to see one with a verification number. Also, returns filed without the verification number will still be processed, so they are pretty much useless right now.

I saw one about a week ago. Our software program, Ultratax, had an input for it but it wasn't required. It will be coming in the nest few years.

We use ProSystems fx Tax and have had the input beginning with the 2015 software I think, but we haven't had a single client who has received a W-2 that actually has a verification number.

My girlfriendl's W2 had the number this year and she had to enter it when she did her taxes online.
