I held off booking the EB until 3 weeks ago, just in case the move was too overwhelming and we decided to cancel our trip. Crap, B4 & 5 when I checked today for tomorrow's flight.
There are a couple of factors at work... the earlier you purchase the Early Bird, the better, and 2) there could be a lot of A-Listers booked ahead of you.
Either way, don't sweat it. You will get decent seats.
Yeah, I stopped buying EB when I got something like B18 once. Boy did that tick me off.
Plus even if you get A16, there's a chance there will be so many through passengers on your flight segment that you might not even get exit row with an A16.
And the Southwest mobile app makes it super easy to always do check in 24 hours ahead. So EB is never again for me.
At least when you fly to/from Vegas (from/to the east coast) you know the plane will be full. That may be enough to push people to purchase EB.
This week I flew home from MKE and did not purchase EB. Checked in 24 hours prior and received A35. At the gate they announced the flight is not full, as a matter of fact there will be about 100 empty seats as it was a 737-800. All I could think of was I wonder who purchased EB and what they were thinking.
