Poker pro disqualified from WSOP Main Event final table after testing positive for COVID-19 A poker pro on the verge of playing for game’s must coveted prize instead endured heartbreak after testing positive for COVID-19. Upeshka De Silva qualified for the final table of the American leg of the World Series of Poker Main Event as one of the final nine players out of a field of 705 competing in the $10,000 buy-in event. https://sports.yahoo.com/poker-pro-disqualified-from-wsop-main-event-final-table-after-testing-positive-for-covid-19-032410422.html
Were they put in a bubble ahead of time at Rio or just flew in? There are definitely false negatives and positives unfortunately.
Player's responsibilities, I believe. Comical that they tried running something like this, and even more comical that the players entertained it.
At least he still won $98,813. Was just reading through his Twitter and it sounds like there is more to this... He had lost his smell and tested positive earlier around the 20th. If I'm understanding correctly it sounds like WSOP still wanted him to try to come and test negative? They should have postponed. https://mobile.twitter.com/PadawanPesh/with_replies
They shouldn't have postponed, it was in the rules and everyone was aware. Probably not handled well by the WSOP, which is no shock. Very unfortunate, but just one of those things. O a separate note, he has been called out by another pro for multi-accounting the WSOP this summer.
Why wouldn't they just require everyone to sign up/register with a passport or license? What is multi-accounting? "used to describe the practice of entering multiple accounts (screen names) into the same online poker tournament. The sole purpose of multi-accounting is to create an advantage by offering one player multiple chances to advance to the later stages of a tournament where the significant money is." https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=multi-accounting
You are, but people have been finding ways around it ever since I started playing poker in 2004. They use other people's accounts, or sign up for relatives etc. https://www.pokernewsdaily.com/thev0id-drops-case-against-pokerstars-255/
The extra money resulting from Pesh's covid-related disqualification went to the other 8 final table players. So basically, if your covid avoidance strategy was better than the other players playing the Main Event, the covid disqualification rules (outlined in advance by the WSOP) meant a higher Expected Value for you.
This. What happens if they then change the rules and postpone, and another player tests positive because of the extra wait? It was very clearly laid out in the rules.
Fairly certain this is incorrect. He was paid for a 9th place finish which was his place at d/q. He made nearly 100k. So i guess it made it easier for the chip counts lower than to have a higher EV since they were now ensure a higher finish than him, but they didn't take his prize money and redistribute.
One time at a Wynn $2500 buy-in tourney I bluff jammed with jack high flush draw and Upeshka tanked then called while saying "screw it GAMBOL" and he called with the queen high flush draw. Both missed and he knocked me out. I've remember that moment for a while now and feel bad that this happened to him. Hope he recovered well!
