I changed my comped 1BR to a terrace studio when I get there June 10th, just like the studio better.

I just got back from my trip, and yes, we were given the 1BR upgrade (from a studio) for nothing at check-in. We took it because we wanted a renovated room; we liked it just fine.

I can see the upgrade for the renovation, and cool you didn't pay/tip for that change. I realize it's splitting hairs about these things, or #firstworldproblems when you can't decide if you like the studio or 1 BR layout of the swanky hotel :) Thanks for the update.

Just got back from my first trip to the Cosmopolitan this past Sunday - Wednesday. I had booked the room I wanted, a fountain view one bedroom. In the interest of research, I tried the $20 trick just to see what would happen. I was offered an upgrade to the terrace suite at $60/night extra. I declined because I really wanted to try that soaking tub! Got a fantastic room on the 69th floor of the Boulevard tower.

    Good info.

Just for the record - that would have been absolute steal for the Terrace Suite. My offers cover a One Bedroom and when I upgrade in advance, the upcharge is $150 - $170 a night weeknights. But if you don't need it, you don't need it.

Appreciative of the detailed comments here. I have a three day, Sun-Wed booking in early November, so I'm trying the following approach: I booked a Terrace 1BR Fountain View, requesting the Boulevard Tower with a room above floor 35 but as close to 35 as possible, then also stating that they could freely move the 1BR to a Studio to facilitate the location request. I did this because the 1BRs are more plentiful on the fountain view side of the Boulevard Tower, so I'm playing into the numbers there - but also, the studio is a few bucks cheaper, so I'm not asking anything for free to move me to a Studio. First and foremost, I want the view, so I'm booking for that issue, giving the hotel maximum flex in sheer numbers to accommodate my request. I also think I want the Boulevard Tower, because my prior six days at MGM Grand will have me more insulated from The Strip - and I like the closeness to The Strip that BV has.

But I was also curious about upgrades from there. It seems the "upgrade price" varies somewhat depending on the specifics....there's reports here of getting moved/upgraded to a Wraparound - which if I could get in FV would be the bees knees. I do wonder what I would do (and am thinking/researching about this) as to whether I would do Terrace Suite - because those are all Chelsea Tower. Room = awesome, not sure about location for me...

...but these data points provided are MUCH appreciated....I feel like I have a realistic strategy I can feel somewhat confident in:thumbsup:

Just my own experience, when upgrading in advance through my host, she basically quotes me the difference in the full retail price.

So if a One Bedroom Fountain View is going for $260 and the Terrace Suite is $430, she quotes me $170. I'm not really sure that's the best deal, because one time the front desk clerk adjusted it down to about $85 (I think) when I checked in. So I intend to ask about a possible adjustment the next time I check in.

The flip side of that is that I usually go over the Gold threshold each year because of upgrade charges and it's a much cheaper way than gambling to get tier points. $170 gets 850 tier points; it takes $2,125 coin in on slots to get the same number and that probably represents a $300+ loss on average.

Huge win last night. Sunday to Thursday with a terrace studio booked. Was hoping for a fountain view. Gave the sandwich and the clerk went to town. Never acknowledged the money. She offered me a renovated terrace suite on the 53rd floor. Amazing. It wasn't ready unfortunately, so then she offered me a wrap around in the Boulevard tower. I mentioned really wanting a fountain view of some kind so we "settled" on a terrace suite on the 33rd floor of the Chelsea tower. Put more stock in the fountain than the wrap around. Kind of crazy I know. Big $20 I thought

That's a steal, the Terrace Suite goes for almost 2x as much as the Studio.

I am typing this while sitting on the balcony of a fountain view room on the 29th floor of the Blvd tower. (It is a Tuesday morning).

Here is my story at checkin time.

Checking in on a Sunday night for 3 nights. (Here in Vegas for 8 nights total - stayed last 2 at Harrah's (comped) and the final 3 at South Point for Casino Collectibles Convention).

Since my wife was joining me on Sunday and we've never stayed at the Cosmo, this was the time to give it a try.

    View is of utmost importance.
I have ZERO play with Cosmo, I booked a Fountain View 1 BR room - Sunday night was $212 Mon/Tue was $260.

During checkin, I told the clerk (named Jaic "Jake") that a view was extremely important and I don't mind paying for it (i.e. told him that I can be staying at Harrah's for free, but really looking forward to a super nice room with an awesome view).

I mentioned that the "Good folks on the VegasMessageBoard indicate that floors from the 30's to 50 are the sweet spot, so please try to get me in that range".

He starts off with an offer to a wrap around terrace for an additional $65 per night, but it would be lower than 30...

He then tells me that he has a high floor in the Chelsea tower above 50.

He then tells me he has a Suite in the Blvd tower on the 29th floor (and he told me that anything above 22 will not be impacted by the Bellagio bell tower) AND he can give it to me for $45 less than the 1Br per night. So I take that and have NOT been disappointed one bit, even though the bell tower is more visible than i expected at floor 29, but is definitely not a problem.

This room is damn near perfect for us. The view is great day and night, the weather is so freaking nice right now that sitting on the balcony couldn't be better.

    So my advice:
    1. Don't over-analyze - once you decide what is most important to you (if it's the view, if it's the bath tub, if it's the location to the Uber spot) simply book it. You really really cannot go wrong once you narrow down to what is important.

    2. The bell-tower will come into your view if you are 34 or lower and in the Blvd tower, BUT I really don't think it is cause for concern even if you are lower.

    3. The rooms and the staff have greatly exceeded our expectations here and this will likely become our go-to spot for future trips.

Here is what it looks like from 29th floor at 9:30 am (The Belltower just rang :) )

    Fantastic post.

Your approach mirrors mine. I too booked a 1BR Terrace for a Sun>Wed stay with the same request/aim: to get in Blvd Tower in the sweet spot, with intent to take most anything that maintains that view for not too much addl money.

If I may ask: I am curious as to how far left or right your room is within Boulevard Tower. There are five suites between the wraparound suites on the corners (1BRs and Terrace Studios) - so I'm wondering if there are still any 1BRs/Terr Stu to the left of yours before you get to the NW corner wraparound.

I ask because if the room were another spot or two to the left that tower would be even less an issue....not that the view there is anything too poor:D

So with all these options, I'm trying the $20 trick in two weeks, checking in Wednesday and checking out Friday morning. I really want a wrap around balcony with a fountain view. My 1 bedroom terrace is fully comped. What do I want to try for to get the best corner wrap around with an awesome view? And if I can't get that, then what?

As in 7/4 through 7/6? You're not getting a Wraparound for any price on those dates, fountain view or not. They are the most expensive suite category available without calling a special reservations line-- and one of your dates is a holiday. The only 'upgrades' from a Terrace 1BR showing available on those dates are Executive Suite and Terrace Suite. The former is probably within reach if you're lucky, but has very limited utility unless you're someone who needs a conference table more than they need a balcony.

That's initially what I thought about the holiday but after speaking with the hotel, they're not as busy as they or I expected for it being a holiday because he said majority of people are coming the weekend before

The wraparounds fountain views are still showing available, but you're looking at about a $500 room price difference. You might be able to get a reduced rate on it, but I doubt $20 is getting you $1000 in upgrade value over the course of 2 nights. Plus, it will depends on the time of day that you check in. I guarantee you that anyone with a non-fountain view will be trying to upgrade to a fountain view earlier in the day.

@Audible Nectar - There is only one more room to my RIGHT before the wraparound. We were in room 2998. I know I've seen a floor map of the Boulevard tower on this site somewhere so you can see that our room is closer to the strip than all but on other. (not counting the wraparound), so the tower is even less of a concern...

Checked in today at Cosmo for 2 nights. Tried the $20 trick and so so results. Going in I knew they were pretty much booked. I asked for a fountain view and the lady tried but no luck. My one bedroom terrace comped booking I ended up getting one on the 55th floor facing the strip in the Boulevard tower so an upgraded room. We also were able to get into around room at check in around 11am and she gave us an extra hour at check out since our flight isn't until 2. I felt like we got a decent room for the $20 on a fully booked hotel

Monday through Thursday of Memorial Day week.
Booked on Hotwire for $69 / night. I knew it was Cosmo because their resort few was unique.
$20 sandwich and $50 per night got me upgraded to Terrace One Bedroom Fountain View on 55th floor. Probably would have been less if the first 2 games of the Stanley Cup weren’t in town during my stay.
Still very happy with $170 / night all in for a beautiful room with a ridiculous view.

I’ve got a terrace suite from the 24th-30th November

I’m not doing the $20 trick as I have the room I want and floor placement etc is, well it’s their job. I’ll tip if they’re helpful but that’s it. This seems to be the best place for room advice though, does the advice for Boulevard tower level 30-50 hold true for the Terrace Suite too?

Also does anyone know what the situation is with the relation of those rooms to the elevators, I absolutely hate being near them.

Anything mid-20's or higher is fine for a Terrace Suite. I get confused now when I look at the floor plate for the Chelsea Tower, because it seems to me no matter what floor I'm on, it's always a right turn out of the elevator lobby to the room, and then at least 7 or 8 rooms down the hall. The floor plate seems to have the elevators in a different spot. I dunno.

You won't really have hallway noise problems in a Terrace Suite because of how the room's entryway is laid out like an "L". It's a good buffer. The two bathrooms and the entry abut the hallway wall. It's a quiet room. I think the walls are better than most hotels because it was originally built as condos.
