Well, they see everyone else doing it...so why not fuck their guests and players out of a few more dollars??!?! We'll keep taking it though, that's for sure.

You could take the other viewpoint and say that how could they not charge it when everyone else around them is? You really expect them to be the only free one and have people take advantage from other properties?

With that said, if they don't want it to be seen as an added source of revenue, they could find ways to validate people's tickets to still give free parking to customers staying/playing/dining/shopping at their property.

A bit of topic, but hotel economics are a bit baffling to me.
For Mother's Day, we spent the day at a hotel along the coast in So Cal. We didn't stay overnight because $650 a night is about double my top end hotel comfort zone. And it's only about 6 miles from home.
Overnight valet parking for hotel guests is listed at $40 per night. Day time valet is $25 per day. There is no option to self park.
First issue- why tack on $40 for someone that will likely be spending nearly $1,000 per day (room, resort fee and food and beverage).
Second issue- since we were there for lunch and hanging out, the validated parking fee was reduced to $5.00 for the day.
Why would a lunch guest pay so much less for parking than an overnight guest?

I suppose this cuts down on people that want to park there just to use the beach for the day.

That's what was happening in Vegas too. Since Uber and Lyft came to town locals were driving their cars to the Strip properties and parking them there for free. Then they would take Uber or Lyft to the airport from the Strip.

They would be STUPID for not charging since you can easily walk to 3 mlife properties from there and not far from the strip in general. If they wanted, they could credit their hotel guests, but why reduce that income?

As to the other post about Calif. That's what hotels do when parking is tight. Check lots of big cities and you find $20 is a bargain for parking and $40+ is not that unusual.

I don't think this is the case in Las Vegas for the most part, but in many big cities, the parking at a hotel is not actually owned by the hotel!
