    My Trip Report

We just landed in Vegas, prior to leaving Reno, we stopped in at the Escape lounge, this was a deal on Groupon

Recommend it to get work dine, light snacks and cocktails

Southwest Flight was bumpy but which flights aren’t these days- we are on a busy rental car bus to pick up a car at the rental car center.

Last night was pretty amazing, Fremont is definitely back.

It felt a little crazy to be in unmasked crowds, we are vaxxed, so no worries.

Last night, was sight for sore eyes as we found the only 9/6 video poker machine we have seen all trip at 25 Cents in El Cortez,

We sat down immediately and never got back up until almost 11pm.

This morning we are meeting some family for breakfast at another off strip hotel —Silverton.

We never made it to craps, hubs was pretty on that machine after running through the terrible odds in Tahoe, we did hear the craps table roaring all night.

Thursday night felt like a Saturday night to me on Fremont.

I even recognized some of the street performers acts everyone is back in a big way.

I am staying at a boutique hotel on the edge of town; I didn’t take pics because I’ve been here a dozen times, it’s a well kept secret- maybe this afternoon.

Today is supposed to be zip lining if I live through the experience I’ll post more
    Later

This morning we met my family for breakfast at the Silverton, it’s a nice looking off strip hotel; $1 push the button craps, lots of VP

Big variety of slots - Mermaid theme

there’s a big fish tank there and If you stand right next to the glass you feel like you are in it with the fish

I won a little on craps and proceeded to blow it in the gift shop; there was a guy there that was clearing out comps and bought about a hundred packages of Doritos and soda pop

I bought a memaid soap dish - post later

We wondered into the South Point, when I say wondered in, I mean we drove by it and figured it was the same South Point on the podcast Gambling with an Edge

Holy cow - this was an amazing experience- we have been here for about 5 hours and it feels like 10 mins

literal holy cow - there’s a random horse competition taking place in the arena

all the food here is amazingly priced and the machines are well calibrated to deliver amazing VP

finally- the sportsbook is like nothing I’ve seen before - words don’t do justice

highlights: reasonably priced food that is actually great - who brings chips with guacamole, salsa, and bean dip (no extra charge) this place

Fastest drinks and cocktails- cocktails actually tasting strong; margaritas amazing at lunch

movie theater, bowling alley—I cannot even cover it—

It’s as if someone said let’s make a casino everyone will like and remove everything that in the least bit sucks (bad odds, overpriced food, slow cocktails, etc)

this feels like what I grew up on in the 90s, bustling with gamblers, bars full of people, everyone having a good time and actually winning

Last night after the Southpoint we napped and rallied some more on Fremont, we never made it to the zipline,
Part of it is I’m chicken lol, part of it is not wanting to brave out in the heat when an air conditioned casino is available.

We spent most of the night in El Cortez, it’s a familiar haunt with coin droppers and reels and a push-the-button craps table that has had some adventures and made it through the pandemic in tact.

A good night all in all, we ended down about $60 and well entertained.

We ended at Seigels 1941 around 10pm, At that point I was prepping for hangover meal and got pancakes, nothing exciting to take a picture of, we are huge fans of this little restaurant, no kids, no muss no fuss. Easy and always consistent with a mid-century modern feel.

At some point during our driving around yesterday

we saw a sign—apparently the gentleman clubs are struggling with a labor shortage

C3CFC4FD-D89A-4E9D-9CF6-2BC18C7800D7.jpeg This morning we drove the Jeep (photo earlier) to Boulder City to do a railroad excursion, on the way back we decided to rando drop
Into any off-the-strip casino we saw and check it out.

first let me start with the Rail Explorers excursion. This was a win, yes it’s short and expensive for riding a tandem bike-like go kart on a railroad track…But…you are riding a kart on an actual railroad track!

OMG friends it’s a total bucket list item for me and I had to do it. If you ever see those old westerns where they hop on a cart and push the lever up and down going on a railroad and wanted to
Try it? This is as close as you get. Recommend it.

hubs always wonders around looking for best odds on VP; he didn’t bite but I played and donated.

it was a decent small casino, kinda early- we had lunch there and the prices again were amazing ///note to those traveling with a car- off strip means realistic food prices

it was a little small for our tastes but the restaurant was good…very good

My eyes were itchy and on fire.

we exited and decided to GPS to “nearest
Casino” so we could put the top back on,
This wound up being Jokers Wild

this is a fun little clean place that feels
Very old school without being old. I played the individual craps (roll separately for each player) and did pretty well; almost hit a lucky shooter, second time I’ve been close

Also ashamed to say, it only happens when I have barely any money in; a straight flush deuces::sigh::

0320FCC6-F718-4841-80CD-B89A1F52421B.jpeg We took off ahead from Jokers Wild, what a fun little place; we started rando driving again and I said, “the first casino we see that I don’t have to make a left turn to get in, we stop”

That casino ended up being the Klondike, it’s a tiny little one off the road—but good for me on craps, i won $30 there, playing the dollar push the button for about an hour. Up and down about to tap out then I got a hot roll—best way to win

Great report! Where did you find a 9/6 machine at Elcor? Thought they had lost those couple years ago.

Wonderful and informative trip report! Love your photos. Gosh, I do wish South Point was closer to more things.

okay I have to stand corrected here with my lack of VP knowledge- it’s a Double Double Bonus coin dropper not JOB and I will post, we had to learn a strategy for this one, our home casino has JOB or deuces- so Vegas is different

I’m loving coins by the way

Okay I need to write an entire chapter on Circa.

I was a little skeptical at first. Like I know always the doubter

I stand corrected is an understatement- like way corrected.

Entering Circa itself is an experience. They check your iD, then you stand in line and the security let’s you in the building. It almost feels like your going to the club. Those days are long past for me but still an experience.

it’s bright beautiful and clean, you smell zero smoke but I don’t think it’s nonsmoking.

I cannot begin to describe the sports book, it’s incredible- I mean even as I write this I’m sort of like whatever I type will not sound underwhelming and not fully describe the beauty of this casino.

I’m going to try- Walt Disney, the essence of Billy Walters, And God blessed Derek Stevens with the best casino on Earth

Also my first win there was a $10’buy in on $1 craps to test —-whoosh—winning love this place - I must go back there a lot now…

I an liking the randomness of this TR. I have driven by Railroad Pass too many times to count. I always wonder what certain places look like on the inside. Thanks for showing us.
Feel free to making left and right turns into bars and casino's most of us never get to.

Okay I was back at El Cortez this morning, and I figured out the odds pay; I hope this doesn’t disappoint- this is my pay table on Deuces,

I enjoyed the coin machines so much- when I was working in Tahoe way back when there’s just something so satisfying a out hearing it cash out and drop

I sucked at craps this morning - $2 machine, all points even “don’t’Ed” myself to off the pressure of rolling the point - in this order 7, don’t money gone. Move to pass, roll point, put all the numbers out —wipeout—-7 out line away, second roll- I rolled three points and tons of Numbers- last night though

Nothing exciting to report this morning- another amazing meal at Seigels 1941, then we went swimming at our secret no one goes there pool—-I’ll give you this, there’s a pool on Fremont that is barely used and you don’t have to pay for a chair—we are going back tonight I’ll take pics then

this means a lot coming from a legendary trip reporter like yourself :)

we got out of secret downtown pool, I have attached pics I’m guessing you can figure out where it is; this hotel started out as a cheap stopover in Vegas for business travel, but I really like it, it’s quiet, away from casinos so it gives you a break…midweek that pool is empty and all yours

additionally, kind of a PSA, Vegas is hot right now; stay hydrated, I’ve quit drinking and passed up a lot of cocktails because it’s just too much in the heat; when we jumped in the car it was 117; after air and driving it went down a little but it was crazy I don’t think I’ve ever seen that level of heat

    I attached pics—

we are currently at Sams Town; more later
