Chapter 0: The Blueprints

Like any good project, it's important to plan your efforts and lay the foundation, according to the blueprints. And Vegas trips are projects, right?

I've been really bad at doing taxes the last several years...I've been getting 5 figure refunds between federal and state. I should probably talk to a tax professional to make sure that stops happening so I can invest the money throughout the year instead. But, hey, "free" money ( :rolleyes2: )means Vegas trip, right? (JK, I've had this trip budgeted out already, unrelated to taxes).

Some of you might think I'm just a country bumpkin, with no experience in the big city. But I'll have you know I'm writing this TR from the cold and mean streets of New York. Syracuse, New York. The airport, in fact, where I've been stuck at for a while. It's been a fucking hell of a week, to be honest...but that can be discussed later.

This will be a fun trip. It'll be for my birfdey, which is the main reason I'm going. But I also have a drone videography client lined up for next weekend, in the Vegas/Laughlin area. That's right boys and girls, CVP is a professional drone pilot now. Not just certified, but professional! Which actually makes my itinerary for a 10 day trip pretty packed!

I'll be driving out to Vegas on the afternoon of the 16th, stopping to camp along the way. Then arriving in Bright Light City around lunch time on the 17th. The plans are as follows:

Horseshoe 17-19, $225 Freeplay Offer
Reserve: 19-23, no freeplay/RC but will hopefully get host backend
Checking in a friend to Rio on the 20th-22nd. I'll probably just go to play a little to cover the offer, or not, idk.
23-25: M Resort, $10 dining credit and $10 freeplay offer. Big bucks, yall.
25-28: Paris, another $225 FP offer.

So in total I'll have around $260 freeplay, plus I plan to redeem my MGM Platinum airfare, and maybe my CET Diamond airfare? ( I can do CET again since I earned it last year, right?) Oh, and I have $100 of Circus Circus freeplay. #Pinkeye time!

Let's talk about the detailed plans:

On the 19th, I'm hosting a group slot pull ( https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/index.php?threads/vmb-slot-pull-march-19-2026.218554/ ), and there's still room, so come on and join!
On the 20th I have my borfdey dinner at Tender, with @CasinoNomad + 1, and hopefully @AlPal and a mystery guest.
The 21st I'll be operating flying blenders, profeshinully
The 22nd I tentatively have a Jerry's Nugget trip planned
The 23rd or 24th, I want to go exploring a ghost town several hours outside of Vegas, and then possibly detour to Los Angeles depending on time? I dunno, I've never been to LA and it seems close?
The 27th I have 2nd berfday dinner at Gymkhana with the lovely, funny, witty, and PHAMOUS @MohrPfun !
Then on the 28th, or maybe late night on the 27th, I begin the long drive home.

I have a couple of goals this trip to accomplish.

One, and most importantly, is to NOT go super degen! TBD if that is accomplished. I just need to stay away from the bubble craps....
Two is to actually get some good relaxation and rest. The last few trips have been almost non-stop, pandaballs-to-the-wall.
Three, have fun!
And four, and this one is hard, but try and beat @AlPal 's TR record. I don't think that will happen, but I can try... @ffejry please remind me each day to wake up and tell me what it's time for?

Let's figure out the pre-trip stats:

CET:
Tier Credits: 37948
Reward Credits: 93,127 ($931.27 before the 2:1 bullshit)

MGM (i suspect this will update before I get to Vegas once my credit card statement closes)
Tier Credits: 178,639
Rewards Points: 254,787 ($2547.87)
Slot Dollars: $433.17 (not planning to spend these in Vegas. I almost got to spend them at National Harbor last night, but...long story)

Updated MGM Numbers:
193394 TC
$580.26 SD

Penn Entertainment: Unfortunately I find myself in Penn Jail, but only in Black Hawk. But my current stats...

Tier Credits:
13252.97 (im glad they show fractional tier credits...?)
Penn Cash: $250.52 (Worth face value as freeplay, or double in restaurants but that may have changed according to @OHguy : https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/f.../penn-play-rewards-redemption-changes.218644/ )

Bankroll: I don't have it all in cash at the moment, but I am planning on bringing $10,000 for the trip. It might be around $9932 or $10,127 or some odd number based off how much change I have...but that's the plan.
Currently I have $6863 , will have to make a ATM visit partway through the trip.

Update: Withdrew 6k more, so $12863 bankroll

With all those accrued comp dollars, I doubt I will be paying out of pocket for any meal (except tips), barring a few roadtrip restaurants and maybe some non-casino meals. (Blueberry Hill, Lou's Diner, True Food Kitchen are all on my mind...)

This should be a fun trip, with lots of video poker, ginger ale, and good decisions. I hope you're all ready to buckle up and ride along! We hit the road in 2 days...if I can ever get on a plane out of Syracuse.

Chapter 0.5: The CVP Socratic Seminar
@AlPal and @LowRollinLarry trip reports are closed, so where else was I supposed to put my casino adventures in New York except for here?
On Monday, I had to travel to upstate New York for work. I flew out at 6AM on Monday from Denver, had a 5 hour layover in Chicago, then landed in Syracuse and drove through upstate NY to get to my hotel. It happened to be close to Turning Stone Casino, which as it turns out, is the only thing to do in the area. (Not a joke, it's desolate out here!). The work trip itself was fine, and I was only briefly detained by the police once for about 10 minutes. 🥴

After work, my coworker and I, and some of our counterparts and clients, would hit the casino. The first night we played some $15 3:2 blackjack as a group, and I lost $250... The second night, I introduced my coworker to craps, at $15. I bought in for $300, and rolled for over an hour, at least 50 rolls without a 7. No all-tall-small bonus to bet, but I turned that $300 ($250 by the time I rolled) into $1150! I wish I had pressed more or did more come bets, oh well. My coworker is now hooked on craps! The last night, I went back to the casino to use my food comps (about $30), and lost all my profit on video poker. Oops... So overall I broke evenish at Turning Stone. Well, +$30 since work gives us a flat amount of food money per day, so really, I'm a winner.
Turning Stone was not my sort of place, although nothing was inherently wrong with it. The first pit boss from blackjack was awesome, he convinced me to sign up for a player card. We BS'd back and forth and he saw me tipping (and showing everyone else how to place bets for the dealer), and I started asking when I can expect Turning Stone to send me the private jet. I think that helped my rating, because I had $20 in food comps after that, which 2 hours of $15 BJ doesn't warrant.
I would never make a special trip just to visit Turning Stone, but one of our clients works nearby so it sounds like I'll be going to the area more often. So hey, I consider that loss on VP as an "investment". (You might notice a theme in this trip report)

Unfortunately, I was supposed to be home already. My flight out of Syracuse was Friday night, with a 1.5 hour layover in DC. DC had a ground stop, so my inbound flight was delayed over an hour. By the time it was airborn, United Airlines told me "LOL sucks to be you bro, you ain't makin that connection". So I was able to preemptively switch to a flight at 730 AM, direct from SYR to DEN. Otherwise I would be stuck overnight in DC, and hotels are expensive there! Although that would have been my chance to run to MGM National Harbor...
But it turns out the plane never even left Syracuse. And then my 7:30AM flight? Yeah that got delayed due to pilots timing out. So, i dunno when I'm leaving. Hopefully in an hour or so?

I upgraded myself to first class for $250 though. Work wont cover that, but it's ok. #TreatYoSelf

Although...my hotel adventure in the mean streets of Syracuse was not great. I booked a hotel that had a shuttle from the airport to the hotel, because my rental car was already returned. Yeah that stopped running at 8PM.

$50 Uber later, I got to these lovely accommodations.

The AC unit was just a portable one.

And I don't know what's going on with the plumbing in this toilet...

But for 6 hours of sleep, it was fine. I guess.

I did have fun in the mall the day before at least!

They had an escape room place:
IMG_20260313_143824.webp

I was by myself, but I did 2 of them (solo). Escaped with 15 minutes on the first (Reel of Fortune) and 3 seconds on the second (Alcatraz). Quite fun, I've always been an escape room fan and have done 20ish or so already. Maybe I should add that to my Vegas activity list?

Plane here!

I usually don't think first class is worth it since I don't drink alcohol. IMG_20260314_091231.webp

But having the extra leg room to take a nap after a week of work BS and travel BS, that's kinda nice.

Also, I have 2Chainz “Birthday Song” stuck in my head now thanks to this TR

“When I die, bury me inside the Jerry’s Nugg” 🎶

Would love to hear how the escape room offerings in Vegas are like if you do them!

Probably better with other people! The ones in the mall in Syracuse were very...mid. just a single room with locked boxes and some minor props around the room, compared to full blown immersive experiences like I've done at other spots. I'm sure Vegas ranges in quality.

Maybe @AlPal will do a 'scape room with me.

Oh and we haven't taken off from Syracuse yet. The deicing procedure took about 45 minutes. Hopefully we can actually go... I would like to get home and do laundry and pack for Vegas

Did you spend your whole 5 hour layover at ORD? Hope you had lounge access, or at least wandered into the Hilton for a meal.

If you want some rest and relaxation, I don't think you should drive to LA. People who have done it more times than me can jump in.here, but I think it's about 4 hours each way, plus more driving around in traffic once you get there. Not relaxing to me personally! 🙂

Good luck escaping from Syracuse!

  • comped room (me?!) & connoisseur class; life is good

That’s a 5 hour flight! That’s your 1st big win of the trip!!! $50/hr. is an incredible value.

  • Poison Gas Money Booth PFUN times at Lake Tahoe!

Go to LA if you have at least a few days. (Completely agree with @rourou.)

Check out *some* of the beaches and walk them (like Santa Monica and Manhattan) and other hangouts around town... Beverly Hills/Westwood/Koreatown at night.. and there are many others I haven't mentioned.

BTW - don't go to UC Irvine, Santa Monica community college, or UCLA. You'd hate all the hot women walking around. What a travesty for the eyes.
