Tried it at circus circus April 2013. The girl gave it back and said I was already in nicest room available

You want to try it somewhere that can actually upgrade you, just about anywhere else on the strip. Some of the smaller casino operators will do it just for asking politely. The last time I was at the Orleans they upgraded me to 21st floor with a strip view just for asking lol.

Had 2 motor manor rooms booked from Wed - Sun for about $19 a night on Hotwire. Gave her a $20 and had both rooms upgraded to West Tower. Nothing amazing, but not bad for 2 rooms at 4 nights each.

Same exact thing happened to me...

    The background:

I booked 2 rooms via Hotwire (March 2014 Sat-Mon stay). The next day I called and requested two queen/non-smoking rooms and they said I was in the West Tower. This surprised me as I figured the Hotwire booking would set me up at the not so great Manor Lodge rooms. The West Tower rooms are solid.

Once I got to the hotel, I tried the $20 trick and the woman gave it back to me saying I was already in a "pretty nice room." I asked for a roll away and was told it was a fire hazard, and additionally a request for some extra room keys was met with a "I can only give you 3 total, otherwise we have to charge you."

So the $20 Trick definitely did not work for me here. Not sure if its specific to the hotel or the desk clerk or what, but it's worked for me at every other Hotel in town.

Back in Oct 2013 I had 2 rooms booked through Hotwire for 4 nights in the Motor Manor... Slipped a $20 bill and we got upgraded to 2 rooms in one of the towers. Forget which one, but it was pretty nice.
