    My Trip Report

This is my first attempt to post a trip report on this site. I hope it doesn't bore the readers too much.

This trip consists of me "Bill", my wife "Kim" and her sister "Melinda" or we will call her "Mel". We are coming out to Vegas during our Christmas break. We had looked to fly, but found it much cheaper to travel by car from our home state of Arkansas.

Dec. 23rd: We left out late after our family Christmas. We made it as far as 66 miles at the Eastern Oklahoma border where we stayed the first night at the Cherokee Casino in Roland on a comped night. I played just a little and lost $30 before calling it a night.

Dec. 24th: We got up the next day and ate the breakfast buffet there. Kim and I get one free buffet a week at the Cherokee Casino so we figured we might as well use that one since we would lose it. Kim used some of her points to cover Mel's. We hit the road and made it to Albuquerque around 9:00 in the evening. We found a $48 Super 8 and called it a night.

Dec. 25th: We were up fairly early and at at the Hotel, got our showers and hit the road again. Travel can be shaky this time of the year, but most of the area had temps. in the low 50's. Flagstaff did have a few flurries, but nothing too bad. We stopped at the Twin Arrows Casino in Arizona. Mel signed up for a player's card and got $25 in free play on their new player kiosk game. She turned that into $27 actually dollars. I found a must got slot that was at $14.78 and must go at $15. It took me awhile, but I hit it for a little $14 profit.

We made it to Vegas around 6:30 PM. We stopped in at Sam's Town and I used points and the LVA 2 for 1 coupon to have a nice Christmas dinner. We then checked into the Cannery where we had a room for the next two nights. The girls were ready to call it a night. I needed to head over to the Linq to check in there. We had double booked and had the Linq for the next three nights. All sets of rooms were comped so it was no big deal. I got checked in after figuring out the crazy parking lot. It was a little before 10:00 so I decided to stop at the Main Street Station and play until midnight since it is 11x points day. I played triple play nickels that has 9-6-5 double bonus. I lost $40 very quickly without a scratch card. I finally started hitting some quads. I quit at midnight $80 down. I cashed in my 8 scratch cards to cut the lost to $72. I went back to the Cannery and crawled into bed with my wife and called it a night.

Good trip report. Easy to follow. Can't wait for the rest.

As a Vegas newbie I don't know what "scratch cards" are.

Dec.26th: I woke up before the girls and went down to work out in the fitness room. I finished my workout and went by the tiny room by hotel check-in to get them some coffee for the morning. They were getting around and were about ready to go. Their first goal was to hit the post Christmas sales at Walmart 3 miles down the road on Craig Ave. I got ready and headed down to the casino. They had a promotion where you could get $10 in dinning credits for every 300 points you played. They also had a kiosk game at 15, 150, and 300 points where you got a prize from the treasure map. I hit $10 more in dinning credit my first time, but just useless drawing tickets the rest of the time.

I bounced around mainly playing triple play nickels at the Super Triple Play game that pays extra for the quads with the extra coin bet per line. I played the 8-5 bonus that paid 400 for base quads, 600 for 2-4's and 1200 for aces. I struggled at first but made a come back after hitting quad aces. My goal was to put 300 points in both Kim and my card before the girls got back. However, I realized that there must have been a promotion for 7x points. So I was motivated even more to play. I managed to get 300 points on both our cards by the time the girls got back. I had two $10 food vouchers from the promotions and Kim had one. We used those to go to the cafe. The girl's had soup and sandwiches. I had steak and eggs. All was covered by the vouchers. The girls had bought several items from all the Walmart sales.

The girls decided to go to the movies after eating. I opted top play on since it was 7x points. We had some coupons for free movies at the Galaxy that we had earned during the summer. I went back to the machines and starting hitting them again. This time things went down hill. I was only down around $20 before lunch, but I couldn't hit a thing. By the the time the girls were out of the movies the damage had been done. I finished down $275 on video poker and even went to slots for a $20 lost. I was able to get another 2 more $10 food vouchers in my name and another $10 in Kim's as consolation gift.

The girls were ready for dinner shortly after the movie. We decided to go to the Palms and use the LVA 50% off coupon at the buffet. I wasn't really hungry yet, but by the time we waited in line for a little over 40 minutes I was ready to eat. I used the coupon and points to cover our meal. The buffet is nice and has some choices you don't find on your standard Station or Boyd's buffet, but I prefer the cheaper more standard food vs. the costs. I used an ACG $10 match play after the meal. I drew a 20, and was glad to see the dealer have 16. I wasn't so glad when she pealed a 5 off and took my $10 in chips. We then went over to the Linq. The girls wanted to spend the night there. We got settled in and the girls again wanted to just call it a night. It was 9:00 in Vegas which is 11:00 back home so I couldn't blame them. I went down and put a few points on both Kim and my card. I was able to manage a $20 win at Video Poker and a $20 win at slots. I then went next door to Harrah's for some poker. There was an open seat at the 1-2 no-limit game. I sat down and in a 2 and half hour span I managed to win one hand. I had dwindled down from my $100 buy-in down to a $45 stack when I was dealt A-K of spades. One guy raised it to $15 and I called. The flop came A-K-2. He bet $10 and I went all in. He called my massive $20 raise and showed me pocket 7's. A 7 came on the turn, I gave him a pat on the back as a blank hit the river and walked away with the slow shuffle of a Vegas butt kicking for the first full day in Vegas. It was 1:00 AM so time to return to the room and cry myself to sleep.

They have a promotion at the Main Street Station for any four of a kinds or straight flushes or royal flushes you turn on the light on your machine and they bring a scratch card. You scratch if off and get the amount in cash on the card. Most of the 5 cent machines results in you getting cards that are $1 in value which is the least you can win. If you are playing quarters, most of the cards are minimums of $2. Some cards can pay as much as $5000. Once you finish playing, you turn your cards into the cashier and get paid for what you have won.

Dec. 27th: I got up and went to the Linq workout room which was very nice compared to the Cannery. I had a $10 dinning credit with the room so I got the girls a huge cinnamon roll and two coffees for breakfast. Of course this comes to more than $10 on the stip, but was only $3 over. They had their breakfast and ate a couple of pop tarts. We got ready and headed out to the Cannery to check out. We used the $30 in dinning vouchers I had earned from the day before to eat the buffet. We then headed out to Henderson. Today was gift day at the Emerald Island. You put 200 points on your card and you get to pick a gift for the day. The girls dropped me off and decided to head to the Walmart on Lake Mead Drive and Boulder so see if they could find anymore post Christmas sales. Emerald Island has a bunch of full pay or close to full pay video poker. I sat down at the triple play All Star machines and had a choice of 8-5 bonus, NSUD, or 10-6 double-double, or 9-7-5 double bonus. I switched around playing on all three of our cards. I got 200 points on all three of our cards and realized it was a little after 2:00 PM. From 2:00 to 4:00 you can play single play video poker and get 25x points. I went to the nickel progressives up front which have 10-7-5 double bonus on some of the machines. I couldn't get on any of those so I opted for 8-5 bonus. I was down $22 when the girls got back. We picked our gifts and headed out. Kim got some perfume in a set and I got another type of perfume for her as well since there wasn't anything I really liked. Mel got a nice glassware set. We then headed over to Racetrack to see how our condo was doing. It looked the same from the outside. We didn't bother to bug the tenants.

We headed back towards the strip. I did have to make a stop at the US Bank on Sahara to do the walk of shame for some added funds. We went in and checked out the changes at the Palace Station. Kim and I put 100 points on our cards to do the pull-tab promotion. I got 2000 points and Kim got $3 in free play. I actually won $20 playing triple play double bonus while Kim dropped $10. We then went back to the Linq. I tier-matched Diamond this year and got two tickets to see the Tenors of Rock. I gave the girls the tickets and they were going to tonight's show. We went over to the Bellagio and checked out the gardens. We then parted ways as the girls went to the Forum shops to look around. I went back to the Linq to drive out to the Suncoast. We had rooms there for the next 5 nights. Again we had double-booked one night and had decided to stay at the Linq that night. It took me around 25 minutes to get out of the parking garage and on to Flamingo. I was getting hungry about this time and decided to pay for my first meal in Vegas for this trip. I get a burger at In And Out and a chocolate shake. I headed out and checked into the Suncoast. We got a golf view room on the 5th floor just above the pool. I decide to play a little ten play nickels that have 8-5 bonus. I again lost. I quit $51 down. I dabble a little in slots but quit when my $20 was gone. I then headed back to the room at the Linq.

The girls had gone to the forum shops then paid too much for a meal at the food court there. Kim used some of her points to cover the meal. They went to the show and got a seat up grade to the front table. They really enjoyed the show and said it was worth the price...(free). I got back about the same time that they had wondered down to see the dueling piano girls at Harrah's. I surprised my wife by sneaking up behind her. We listed and sang for close to an hour then headed to the room when the girls took a break.

Dec 28th: I again got up and went down for a workout. I got the girls coffee and a huge muffin again for breakfast. This time I used points to cover the food. I had another pop tart. We got around and checked out around 11:00. It took us 45 minutes to get from the elevators on our floor, out the parking lot, and onto Flamingo Avenue. During that time, Kim and I decided I didn't need to play enough to maintain at least Platinum status for the next year. We have no desire to stay on the strip with the long lines and over priced food. I took the girls down to Mandalay Bay. They wanted to do the Shark adventure. I dropped them off then headed to the Gold Coast Casino. They had a promotion for a free gift of your choice with 20 tier points earned. I went against all my guts and decided to play slots since I new that $100 coin-in would get me the free gift. I mainly played Cashman and some of the older slots. I was careful to make sure an play in increments of 5 points if I felt a machine was getting cold. I managed to get 20 points on all three of our cards netting a lost of $45. This is the usually 85% payback for penny slots since I had ran $300 through the machines. There was an added bonus today. With 3 tier points you got a free dinner buffet. So maybe my losses could be recouped in free stuff.

I then went over to the Orleans. They had a 20 tier point promotion for a free bottle of wine. I played my card only on the Cashman. This time I ended $5 up. I then went over to the triple play nickel progressives in the non-smoking area. They use to have 9-7-5 bonus for years, but they dropped the 7 to a 6 on the flush recently. I played for about 20 minutes when my wife texted me and said they were done. I was $25 down when I left. I went by and got the girls and we headed back to the Gold Coast to pick our gifts and eat. I got a glass ware set, Kim and Mel both got a spice set. The buffet was really good.

We then headed out the Sunset Station. We were there to see the Spazmatics at 8:00. They came on and played a great show as usual. They play a lot of 80's music along with emphasis on the new wave songs. We stuck around after that and paid the $5 cover charge to see Yellow Brick Road. They play classic rock and was really good. This was probably our 7th time to see the Spazmatics, but our first time for YBR. I went and put 100 points on Kim's and my card during breaks for the pull tab game. I won 1500 points and Kim won 2000 points. I dropped an amazing large amount of $60 getting the 100 points on the Super Triple Play bonus poker. I guess it goes fast if you don't hit any quads. We stayed until almost midnight listing to YBR then headed to the Suncoast to crash for the night.

Sounds like a good trip. No pictures???? Even pictures of casual or buffet food would work.

Sorry about the lack of pictures. I am still old school and have a flip top, so I don't really take very many pictures. I need to get to the modern age, but the school I work at has no cell service so I've never bothered to update.

Dec 29th: I got up and worked out at the fitness room at the Suncoast. I took my shower and went down and played a little on the ten play nickels while my wife got ready. Today, Kim and I were going to do a coupon run before the remaining coupons we had expired. Mel opted to just chill at the casino while we did our run. Our first stop was Jerry's Nugget. We both did the $10 free play and $10 match play ACG coupons. Kim hit a blackjack on her match play for a nice $25 win and I won mine for an added $20 to bankroll as well. Kim maintained $7 of her free play and I turned mine into $13. Next stop was the Big Horn Casino for a match play and $10 for $20 in free play. Both of us won our match plays and Kim lost $5 playing buffalo's while I netted a $7 win playing black jack. We then stopped at the Silver Nugget to do match plays. However, their tables do not open until 4:00 PM. We went on out to the Luck Club and both lost our match plays for $10. We then headed back to the Suncoast to get Mel.

We decided to eat lunch at Dupars in Suncoast. My wife and I split a large stack of pancakes...more like a 60-40 split while Mel got a sandwich. We used $10 in dinning credits and points to cover the rest. We then headed to the Orleans. They had gift day for 20 tier points. I played some of he triple plays and some slots to get the points. I won $8 on video poker but lost $29 on slots. Kim lost $15 on slots getting her points. I also lost at a $10 match play. The choices of gifts were rather week so we both opted for wine. Mel opted not to play this promotion. We then ventured back to the strip and parked at Harrahs. We did a little site seeing then went to the buffet. I used my $100 Diamond meal to cover the buffet. It was very good. We were able to get or crab leg fix and the beef wellington was out of this world.

We then went to Ellis Island for the girls to use the LVA coupon for 3 drinks for 2. Kim played the Sharknado slot and got a lot of play out of it before finally losing her $20. I played triple play nickels for awhile and was glad to finally have a winning session. The good news was I hit aces, but the bad news was that I was only playing bonus. I was glad to book a $10 win. They had a kiosk game for getting 5 points, I went to it and won a $10 match play. The first deal, the dealer missed me so I had to go again. The 2nd deal I pushed on a 20, the third deal I got a black jack for a nice $25 win. We then went in and listened to karaoke for the next three hours. The girls are such light weights on drinking that they got me two root beers towards the last. We headed back around Midnight.

Dec. 30th: I did my usually morning routine of working out then getting ready. I did all this while the girls were still asleep. I opted to just chill in the room while they got ready. We went down to the buffet at the Suncoast and ate there for lunch since it was Sunday brunch. Kim used a 2 for 1 LVA coupon and points to cover the rest. We then headed to the pinball hall of fame. The plan was for me to drop the girls off then go put 400 points on my card at Tuscany's for a single serve coffee maker. I was sharp enough to check the promotions desk before I played to find out all of them had been given out the day before. I opted to run to Hooters for a coupon run. I did the play $10 and get $10 in free play that netted me a $14 profit. I then did the ACG $10 matchplay. The lady only gave me a $5 match play coupon to use. I was glad because I lost. The had a kiosk game and I won another $5 match play coupon that I managed to lose at as well. I then went back and played some old school pinball with the girls.

The girls were ready to eat so we went out the Cannery to use $30 more in dinning vouchers that we had. We went back to the cafe. I had spagetti and the girls had sandwiches and soup.

We then headed over to the Boulder Station Casino and put 100 points on our cards for a pull-tab. I won $20 on video poker while Kim lost $17 on slots and video poker. We both got bonus points. Mel actually opted to play this as well. She won $85 playing the Buffalo's. She got 2000 points. We then went to Sam's Town were we listened to the cover band called Wonder Boogie. They played a little too much disco for me, but my wife loved it. I took off and played the nickel Emerald Deuces while the band was on break. Little did I know they had 11x points day going on as well. We listened until 9:30 and the girls were ready to go. I dropped them off at the Suncoast and cruised back to Sam's Town to give the Emerald Deuces another try. I never hit the quad ducks and cashed out at midnight with a $70 lost.

Good stuff so far! But you were platinum at mLife? What kind of levels do you play there? I wouldn't think triple play nickel VP would cut it there. ;)

And I definitely need to check out Emerald Island!

I actually Diamond matched at Ceasars. Emerald Island has really good pay tables and a nice cafe. Just about every time I've played there, they have brought by snacks while your playing.
