Just wondering if there is an advantage of using the diamond check in lounge rather than just using self check in or waiting in line. Sometimes i see the diamond line is wide open but wondering if the smarter choice would be to go into the diamond lounge check in.

There's no waiting in the line so I don't understand why you wouldn't use it. Maybe occasionally they might try a little harder to get you the type room you want? Why go to the kiosk and leave your room choice up to a computer?

Clerks are typically more accommodating to special requests, and typically will place you on a premium / diamond floor. There are typically free water and possibly fruit or snacks as well.

No line and you get the better nicer clerks that upgrade you a lot easier

I used to feel the same way. Was a diamond card holder but always just wanted to check in quickly and get to the fun parts of Vegas.
I have done a complete 180 after using diamond check in at Caesars and now probably wouldn’t do it any other way. GREAT clerks who always seem to try to get you a little room bump or accommodate a request (which tower, etc). Plus free waters and hosts right there in the room for any issues with offers, etc.

    Yep.
    And usually a bit calmer.

My guess is the staff there is better trained and/or more senior.

Multiple CET staff have told me the diamond lounge employees have access to rooms and floors the front desk does not. The seven stars checkin desk has access to rooms the diamond checkin staff do not. Always use the diamond checkin if you want the best room available. There usually isnt a diamond checkin coded person working the front desk if the diamond checkin lounge is open, even if there is a diamond line (it will be the platinum checkin person and will let you skip them in line). In my experience this all seems to be true. The one time I used the front desk when the lounge was open and requested an upgrade, the clerk wasnt able to upgrade me, but I had a wad of cash in my hand, and she made a call over to the diamond checkin who booked me in a suite over the phone and then she was able to code my keys. She was the first one to explain that to me. That was at Caesar's Palace, but staff at Bally's and Paris told me the same thing. Not to mention they'll give you free waters, free coffee, and usually some snacks. But the answer to your question is yes, they have access to a bigger room inventory than front desk staff when they're open. When they arent open, they usually have one person at the front desk coded in for diamond and 7 star access.

Yeah, that explains the dumpy Forum Tower room I got from the Diamond check in a couple trips back - maybe it was my attitude and appearance:)

What about if you went through a host and you get free play and food credit, can you still get or ask for an upgraded room in Diamond check in?

Last trip we went to the Kiosk (around 2:00 PM) and it told us no rooms ready, and we should check back later.
We went to the bell hop to ask if we could check our luggage with them, and they told us the Kiosks lie, we just need to get in line to talk with a person.
There was a short line at Diamond, but when we saw the agent, he was very helpful and got us our room right away.
So any time we see a short line at DIamond check-in, we wont mess with those Kiosks.

One time I was spending 4th of July in Vegas with a big group, I think there were 8 of us. I was checking in at Diamond checkin room at Caesars and the clerk upgraded me from comped forum to Octavius. Then she asked if there was anything else she could do for me. I jokingly said well I’ve been trying to get a reservation for dinner at Serendipity (before it was Hells Kitchen) for dinner on 4th of July so we could watch the fireworks but they have been booked for weeks. She said hold on, called the concierge who called the restaurant manager and my group of 8 had a table on the veranda to watch fireworks. Awesome.

i usually fly in from California after a work day so my arrival time can be 10pm or later... The Diamond check in lounge is usually closed at that time... There is a diamond and up express line at the regular registration but those clerks have no special access or powers.

I always use it if it's open for the reasons that they might give you a better room if available. Also the waters are there and some of them have extras (Caesars has coffee of the Thai tea, Harrah's has that coffee cup machine).

For checkout I'll use them if there's no line, otherwise I've gone to kiosk or just done it in the room. They few times I've wanted to use TR credits, I'd go to whatever line is shorter.

You can still get waters from regular check in when diamond is closed but you have to ask and sometimes they have to go in back to get them.

If it's open, I use it. Never had a long line. Good place to ask questions, make sure your offers are available, water, and a bite of candy. I can't talk to a kiosk. I do like a little human interaction before I lose money paying for a free suite.

For all the reasons everyone stated. I personally like it because it's much calmer, quieter, better staff, and you get lots of bottled water.

Regardless of whether a host booked you or not, for a normal Diamond player rooms are assigned at check-in. The best chance you have at scoring an upgrade is call after 6am the day of check-in and tell them you are interested in a room upgrade. Know what room type you want and if you are willing to pay for the upgrade.

We've checked in at the front desk after the Diamond check in closed a few times and have always been able to get upgraded when we asked and were personable(no $20 "trick" necessary).

In addition to all of the comments above, YES, there are many advantages:

    - FREE, ICE COLD BOTTLES OF WATER (As many as you'd like)
    - There is usually a desk with the host on duty seated at it (or behind a divider) in case you need assistance they can immediately solve / resolve any problems
    - depending on the lounge and the time of day (or event going on), they will have beverages, champagne, cookies, etc
    - If you are staying on a specific promotion such as a tournament, free play, etc, the front desk will have the redemption details for you including times and locations you need to go to redeem your promotion
    - The staff working in the lounge tend to be the better front desk staff - they won't waste your time, are very efficient at there job
    - Usually, no people in front of you asking the desk agent silly questions ie wasting time for you to check-in
    - Some can also print players club cards should you need them.
    - Upgrades are available if your play warrants it.
    - Did I mention FREE COOKIES!
