    My Trip Report

    Hello VMB!

I’m ERQ, and this month I celebrated my birthday at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas! My original plans for my birthday trip was a week long New England road trip, but because of a death in the family, my plans necessitated a much shorter and more convenient trip. After much consideration, my partner and I decided a short 3 night Las Vegas trip was in order. So I contacted my host and redeemed my current offer, which included 3 nights, some free play and some resort credit.

    DAY 1

My morning was quite busy. I tidied the house, packed my clothes, withdrew money from the bank, and gassed up the car. I had anticipated leaving Los Angeles no later than 10 AM, but with all of my chores and errands, I left closer to noon! Nonetheless, I was quite happy to be on my way!

I’ve made this road trip many times over the years, and I like it. It’s me, the car, the open highway, and the scenic desert for about 4 hours with no distracting phone calls, texts, internet or television. It’s quite serene and peaceful.

I made one stop along the way - a newly opened rest area just before Baker, CA. It was clean and simple.

After about 4 hours of very leisure driving, I finally made it to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and it felt so good be back. There’s nothing like arriving and having that excited feeling suddenly come on.

I self parked and made my way to the lobby, which was quite busy. I then entered the VIP lounge and quickly noted the tasteful renovation since my last visit. Check in quick and efficient. The agent confirmed a 3 night stay in a wrap around suite with fountain view in the Boulevard Tower. She also confirmed comped resort fees and the resort credit. Prior to leaving the lounge, a glass of champagne was kindly offered and quickly accepted.

After check in, I walked around the casino and soaked in the energy and excitement. I noticed several new slot machines on the floor (Wonder Woman, new versions of Lightning Link, Casa Blanca, The Godfather, etc) and some old ones that had been moved around. I gradually made my way to the Identity desk to get new players cards and to activate the free play. Then I went to the suite, which was fabulous! I thought the renovation was tasteful and elegant.

After unpacking and changing into a fresh clothes, I headed to Blue Ribbon for dinner. I sat at the bar and had sautéed baby squid, filet of beef and French fries. The squid was quite tasty!

Satiated and satisfied, it was time for gambling! My night started rough, and I lost several hundred dollars within an hour. Nothing was hitting and I was feeling down. So I took a break and walked around for a few minutes. After clearing my mind of the bad loss, I played again and slowly clawed my way back to positive territory. Here are a few of my wins...

    DAY 2

I was quite tired from my busy and exciting 1st day/night. Also I hadn’t slept well for a few days prior. Although I tried to sleep in, I couldn’t and only slept 4 hours at most, which put me in a weird funk for most of the day. Fortunately I had this wonderful view to admire.

Not wanting to spend the entire day in the suite, I decided to run a few errands at Costco and Target in Summerlin. Odd choice, I know. But I love visiting Costco’s in different states and countries. For domestic locations, Hawaii was most fascinating, and for international locations, Japan was most memorable. Each location has unique offerings although I didn’t find anything spectacular at Summerlin except gas was cheap - $3.03/gallon!

    34A23B0E-EA05-4AFC-91AC-8AF00287BE67.jpeg

In the end, I didn’t buy too many things - wine, a cork screw and thank you cards. It was nice to see other parts of the Las Vegas area, and Summerlin was a well manicured master planned community.

I rushed back to The Cosmopolitan to have lunch at Jaleo. “Lunch Like A Spaniard” was a $25 set menu that was offered daily until 2 PM, and I made it to the restaurant just in time. I sat at the bar and had a three course meal. The entire menu looked so good that I had difficulty choosing which dishes to order. After some thought, I ordered ensalada verde con anchoas (loved the anchovies!), croquetas de pollo (served in a shoe!), and gambas al ajillo (my favorite of the three). All three dishes were quite tasty!

With such a large lunch, I entered a food coma, and I retired to the suite for a nap on the (firm and somewhat uncomfortable yet stylish) couch for a few hours. When I awoke, it was early evening, and I freshened up. Oddly I was still in a funky mood, and so I knew the evening was going to be a short one.

First up, a light dinner at Holsteins. Again I sat at the bar and had a small salad and buffalo chicken wings. Nothing too exciting, but they hit the spot.

Next up, gambling! Initially, I was worried that I’d lose all of my winnings from the prior night, but in the end, I remained even. Things started rough, losing several hundreds of dollars within a short time, but things slowly picked up as the night progressed, which was eerily very similar to the prior night. And again I was saved by a big win just before I called it quits.

This was the big win! :)

With that, I went back to the suite to end the evening on a high note again.

This was the view at night - so wonderful! :)

This is not only a great TR in the making but also a potentially incredibly helpful one for me personally. I recently checked into Cosmo and have a Costco-related question:

Is it allowed or disallowed for me to take three empty suitcases from my room to the ground floor, take a Lyft to Costco Business Center, shop, fill suitcases with multi-bottle packages (Gatorade, Vitarain, Monster, Red Bull, and/or vinegar), take a Lyft back to Cosmo, and have a luggage attendant bring my suitcases back up into my room? Obviously, many guests bring in outside packages of beverages (e.g., water), but is there a limit on their sizes?

That’s a good question, and I don’t know the answer. Maybe call the hotel and kindly ask.

When I looked up Costco locations in the area, I found three - Las Vegas, Summerlin and Henderson. The Las Vegas location was designated as a business center whereas the other two locations were the usual type. What is a Costco business center and how is it different from the others?

Just curious; is there no Costco where you live; wondering why you chose vacation and traveled with 3 empty suitcases to stock up?

After Oct 1/17, the action of leaving and coming back with suitcases could pique the interest of anyone monitoring the security cameras.

That's an OK way to do it. I used to rent a car to do a supermarket run and I'd park in the garage and load everything into empty luggage to bring up to the room. Then I switched to Vons delivery, at which point I realized that hotels don't really care about you bringing in a reasonable amount of groceries.

Now I get a ride to the supermarket and just get empty boxes from the produce department at whatever store I go to, load all the smaller plastic supermarket bags into them, and then return to the hotel and have the bell desk bring the boxes up. I usually have two banana boxes full and I've never had a problem, and it's almost always Cosmo I'm staying at when I do these supermarket runs.

I am loving this trip report!

My friend lives in Los Feliz, and our last drive to Vegas was a breeze too! Seemed way quicker than San Diego! :)

Glad you had such an amazing time at the Cosmo - thank you for all the slot win pics and food pictures!

I LOVE Jaleo! Glad you enjoyed it! Their lunch special can't be beat - such delicious food, and enough to keep you full till dinner time! I love their croquetas too. Jose has another restaurant - Bazaar Meat at SLS - that has croquetas de jamon, which are filled with a Spanish ham. So so so good. :drooling:

Instacart delivery from Costco to Cosmo!

This is the way to go, folks. I ordered around 3am, and they delivered everything to my door at noon. This was my first time using Instacart, so I'm using their 14-day trial for free express delivery, plus I found a $10 off coupon code for first-time users.

I go to my local Costco at least once a week, which is why I can't live without its drinks (especially Vitarain) for this week in Vegas! ;) I arrived here with three very full suitcases, but had planned to empty their contents in my room, then fill them back up at Costco. No need now.

This was exactly one of my concerns. Another good reason for Instacart delivery.

Super fun slot! It’s part of the Might Cash series. It’s a lot like Zorro if you’ve played that. Cosmo has it by the coffee shop on the casino floor. Diana Evoni has a video of it on her You Tube channel if you want to see how it plays.
