Wow when did the car rental rates jump so high, and why? I just paid only $194 for 8 days this past November at Advantage. I made the reservation 2 to 3 months in advance. I also was there in October and paid 178.00 for 6 days through Dollar and also made that reservation months in advance. I cant believe the prices jumped so much. The prices are now at least 30% higher. Does anyone know why the drastic increase? I've been renting cars in Vegas for 20 years and have never seen such a price increase like this at once.

Because they can! Just like resort fees! Goes up and up.

For my upcoming late April trip, I used Autoslash and finally got a less than $195 cost for a midsize, from Thrifty. (Sat eve until Fri am)
They are suppose to continue to hunt for lower prices.

However, I found Budget prepay for $180, using AARP.
I also like Budget, because they only put a $100 CC hold, if you prepay!

keep checking and cancel / rebook when the prices change.

You might be going at a busy time, too. Spring break maybe?

I think that the original poster was just stating in general that prices have gone UP, not any specific times.

It is supply and demand. There are more folks renting cars, especially when there are events offstrip. And It seems to me that they are much higher for rentals that qualify for a weekly rate or that include a Saturday night. You need to book as early as possible, keep checking and use the best discount code you can find.

I've noticed the same thing. I always think, "Maybe I'll just ride the bus this year and skip the rental car", but then rates drop to a level I can't resist 4-6 weeks out from my trip and I go ahead and book the car. The rates aren't dropping this year. I've been checking daily for 3 months, I'm 3 weeks from my trip now, and they haven't budged a bit.

You might try a non-McCarran location. I'm staying downtown and I get there via the WAX bus. I got a full week midsize rental from Hertz for $162 all in. Slightly inconvenient in that it's at JW Marriott which is next door to the last stop on the WAX bus (Suncoast). I'll stop downtown, check in, drop off all of my bags and grab another WAX bus up to Suncoast/JW Marriott for my car. I'm actually renting 2 weeks and saving $200 off of the McCarran price. Worth the effort for me.

Rates always seem to drop as time goes by. I book (Costco) when I book my flight and room, a few months in advance. And then just keep checking and they always go down at least 25% and I rebook. Overall the rates I've ended up paying are pretty much the same over the past 5 years or so. Of course it varies based on when you're going, conventions, etc...

That's been my experience as well, but it's not happening this year. I always go the same week every year, and prices have been firm for three months. Maybe they'll break in the next three weeks before I go, but I doubt it - they seem to spike 2-3 weeks out.

I would think with Uber prices would go down?
I use SW airlines and seem to find cheap rentals.

I booked my May auto rental in December and so far it's gone down just $20 so maybe you're on to something. I still have 2.5 months though so we'll see.

Once again the rates dropped before the day I flew in. I rent with one of two agencies (Sixt and Enterprise). Enterprise came down to $102 for a 3 day rental today and I quickly booked it. I was previously renting for Sixt at $122 for the three days.

It's a lot of work to keep track, but the $$$ saved more than makes up for it.

I use price line a lot to rent cars, normally save a few dollars.

That happened to me. The rate dropped almost daily for two, including the day before I left. But my rental was for three days. I don't have that happen as easily for rentals that are a "week" or longer.
