Apparently Roam Mobility is having some severe activation issues. Starting last week, nobody could get any plan activated.

They say it is fixed, but from comments on the web and twitter... it ain't.

There is no support either, they keep saying the same automated stuff.

I have recommended them and used them in the past, but this does not bode well.

Use Roam Mobility in the US at your peril!

Thanks, RF ... btw, Freedom (nee Wind) has $15/month plan, good for talk/text (all you need) and enough data while in the US. Pretty good deal.

Koodo prepaid now has the option to buy US minutes and data...........these should be nice because they carry over and do not expire. I haven't tried them yet, will probably head back down to the US in Feb so will give it a whirl then.......

    Thanks, Flusher. This is bad.

They take your money and then the plan doesn't work?

Does anyone else use a plan that they can buy in the US? I have an unlocked phone.

Roam worked for me. I extended it today. Hope it doesn't act up.

Darn annoying. Hopefully there's no problem with the refund. We're all dependent on our phones and data now. This qualifies as a crisis, IMO. I'd be broke if I had to use my Canadian carrier.

Truth be told, these services are less valuable now even IF reliable.

4-5 years ago the roaming options on canadian cell plans were WRETCHED. These days they are only slightly more expensive and far more convenient than switching out sim cards.

For a 2012 vegas trip I picked up a SIM card at t-mobile in detroit before flying out. These days I just text Koodo for a 10 day plan and go. Last I checked, even the Rogers and Bell roaming are less rip-offy than they once were.

Nevyn, ma Bell is $5 for phone and text and 100mg of data. It's the data I need, so that's useless. Not worth it unless an emergency.

I sent a text to telaway. They could UPS a sim overnight to the US for $30. If I were here longer and desperate, I would have done that. Wonder how their service is and who their US carrier is.

You go through more than 100 data each day? Or you mean you don't want to pay for talk and text too?

I do need talk and text but not much. Easily go through 100 mg of data. My husband and I share 6g in Canada. When traveling in Canada, we use that in two weeks. Not sure on what as we don't watch videos or movies.

Roam is making noises like they are going to refund me on the plans.

Do you use facebook and/or twitter on those phones? If they auto-play videos while on a cellular network it will chew up data quite quickly, so I am told.......I believe you can disable the auto play video function in the settings somewhere and just use that function on wifi only.

Just as long as they are making the "right" noises............did they ever give you an acceptable explanation?...........I have used roam in the past as well, but my last trip it did not work so hot either........I am gonna try out Koodo prepaid USA services next trip, in Feb
