So, once again, I find my dear BF and I not seeing eye to eye on a silly something (last time it was about the dog smiling at me and thankfully many you saw it my way, lol).

Anyway, today we are having the great Bucket List debate.
    Today's poll: Bucket List

There are no " go here, see that" items on my bucket list. I have 13 grandbabies ranging from 1 yr to 15 yrs that are my world. I am almost obsessed with living long enough to see them all have children and getting the opportunity to hold and love my great grandchildren. Thats the sum of my bucket list.

Seems folly to aspire to something that will not/cannot come to pass. I vote "A."

I like what rancher wrote. We certainly have places and experiences on our lists, but every day that goes by makes us that much more keen to maximize just being together -- the two of us, with family, with friends.

I'd like to hear his rationalization for holding out for something unattainable!!!

Ok, first things first, as hard as I find this to believe , he tells me he never heard of a bucket list until he heard it from me. .I was like, did you live under a rock??? ( he'll be 49 next month, we've been dating 13 years)...

His thought of a bucket list, is it's things that are barely, if at all in reach. Where I'm of the mind set it's things you really want, that with some effort (and maybe good health and maybe a bit of luck) you can achieve.

He seems to think most people never pluck things off their lists. I disagree. Granted, there may be items that are left undone but I'd think people can check off, at least, a few.

I guess I'm more the optimist of the relationship, lol.

C'mon, we're all gamblers here... we all believe that "anything can happen", right? :)

That's my best guess at his reasoning, anyway. Because in a lot of ways, it is true that (virtually) anything can happen, especially with the way times change.

Twenty years ago, it would seem so far out of reach for any average person to ever have the privilege of flying on a private jet plane. You'd either have to pony up tens of thousands of dollars of your own money, or hopefully get to be friends with someone who's rich enough to have or charter their own jets.

Now, you can go on a service like JetSuiteX and get a seat on a private jet for about the same cost of a commercial flight, making that dream attainable, which was once unattainable for most.

So perhaps in some ways a bucket list of "seemingly unattainable" items seeks to challenge one's own capabilities, as well as what the universe has to offer as time goes by. I'd certainly say my definition of what a bucket list consists of matches what everyone else has said so far... but at the same time I can see why OP's partner feels that way.

If it's presently attainable by definition it's attainable.

I have both sorts of items on my bucket list. For example, I've never been to a Trader Vics, so i want to go to the one in Atlanta, just for a quick visit, as short as 36 hours really. Easy. But, I also want to go to all the others in the world, all in far off places. Will that happen? Probably not, but I'm still gonna try!

I really need to step up my "get to Paris" game though, in light of recent events! I've been working and taking care of people since what seems like forever, so I have a really big bucket now!

It has to be "A" that is not saying that the list can never change. It does not make sense to wait to to the unattainable, while there are plenty of things you are missing. You hit the lotto, the list changes. You get that promotion and huge pay raise update the list.

Theodoric of York, medieval barber, had on his bucket list going to the moon to retrieve what he was certain was the cure to the plague. That was impossible on two levels. ;)
