    My Trip Report

With the super high airfare rates to Vegas right now and the even higher room rates(I think there is a Microsoft convention going on) I decided to give Canada a try...

I must say the drive from Chicago to Windsor, Ontario was beautiful but kind of a pain in the you know what. I don't drive often in Chicago and I never realized how many freakin' cars are rolling out of there toward Indiana and Michigan on a Friday afternoon. The traffic was bad pretty much until we got to Michigan. Of course we got lost and ended up in a bad area of Detroit, so we ended up in Windsor later than we thought.

    Thoughts so far...

Detroit is a really gloomy city. The neighborhoods we drove through, I could not wait for the light to change so I could get my Audi out of there. The GM building is kind of cool but then you realize how crappy the US auto biz has been and your stomach turns.

Canada feels weird for me. My gf says it feels like the US but I think it feels like the US but just a little different. We had a really bad customs agent when coming through the Detroit Tunnel; this lady was in a horrible mood and decided to give us 20 questions. I'm not sure if Ontario is different from other provinces but Canadians seem a little on the sarcastic side.

Caesars Windsor is awesome. It's a shame this place is rumored to be losing tons of money and there are no other casino chains here. It feels very clean and modern. My biggest complaint is this place is a 24/7 joint but cuts the booze off at 2 AM. I mean we got in at 12 AM and by the time we got settled in, we were pounding drinks to make the 2 AM cut off. We left at 3 AM but I'm sure we would of stayed longer if they kept the booze flowing. I hear it's an Ontario wide law that all booze is done at 2 AM but if this casino wants to succeed, they need to find some kind of way around it. A plus for some is that the casino is smoke-free, so all the smokers are outside but the views of Detroit are kind of cool, so it's not bad. You do have to pay for booze at the table as well which is BS. I'm playing $25/spin roulette but no free drinks...

Last night was fun. I played roulette and the pit boss got me started with an HET card(I finally took the plunge!!!). I was at a 15 min table playing 25 per spin and made a profit of a little under 200 before I called it a night. My gf turned 15 bucks into 70 on her first time playing roulette. We ate at the 24/7 cafe where I had a really nice omelette before going to bed.

I'll keep you guys updated but so far so good...

    Windsor Casino

If you feel adventureous there is a small casino at Windsor Raceway to the east on Riverside Drive. Its about 20 minutes away. If you come back through the tunnel when you get back on Jefferson in Detroit go east and you will be on The Lodge(10). Take that to 94 west and you should be all set going home. We go to Windsor casino a couple of times per month mainly because it is smoke free, and we earn our comps for Vegas where we stay at Harrah's. Only 29 more days and we will be there!

Wow, what a great time I had in Windsor... I'm just winding the weekend down right now at the Conrad in Chicago. I'm surprised how much fun I had just playing at 1 casino but I was on a heater, so I think that helped. We started playing roulette at 4 PM yesterday and did not stop till 5 AM. I guess there were lunch and dinner breaks in there but I played that whole time on just a $300 bankroll at $25 a spin. I paid for the entire trip with winnings and that's especially nice because you have to pay for drinks in Windsor. Whoa, lost track of how many drinks we bought...

I did notice that over 2 nights I made 2,600 Total Reward Points... I think the pit bosses shorted me a little because they're not used to seeing people play $25 per spin. For most of the trip it was $10 min and when they did open a $25 table, I was the only one at it.

I made some nice purchases at the Duty Free Shop before crossing over back into Detroit...

Is it just me or are people from Ontario kind of mean? My gf and I had a great time because we were winning and made it a great time but we came across so many angry workers at Caesars Windsor and at Customs. My gf got into it with a pit boss that had a $25 min table going with $1 min chips and then made someone chip up to nickels and they went broke within a couple spins. She was really irritated that the sign did not say $5 min chips but they still made this guy chip up to nickels. She finally got the crew to change the sign but by then I think they were probably just pissed and maybe my ratings took a hit.

    Its actually true.

Most of the 12,028,895 people that live hear are in fact extremely mean.

Excluded are myself and other Ontarions (?) that are members of VMB.
