That's funny, I was just getting ready to post my own update!

I'd never tried the $20 trick before, so I was a little nervous. But I did it upon check-in this past Tuesday, and basically asked what I wanted for, "if possible". Worked like a charm! We got Augustus with a fountain view as well, also 28th floor. Surprised I didn't see you! :-D

I think as some have said before, politeness helps a lot too. I think if you're too demanding, it's going to lessen your success.

Anyway I hadn't stayed at Caesars in a very long time. The room was awesome, and I almost took that bed home with me!

We checked in yesterday. My reservation was for 4 nights in a Julius luxury room (which I understand is their least expensive room). I sandwiched the $20 and politely asked if a complimentary upgrade might be available. The woman helping me put the cash on the counter and said they DO accept tips, but it would be based on service. She asked me to wait to see what she could do. I asked about something with a fountain view. I got a beautiful view of the pools high up in the Octavius tower instead. I'm satisfied! SCORE!

I have a comped Palace Deluxe. Mon-Thurs in early July. Is an Augustus Tower room the best bet for what I could land, or could I safely shoot for an Octavius or Laurel room with a $20? I don't want to outkick the coverage by asking for something excessive if asked for which room I w

I kind of think $20-50 sandwich thing is overrated. In 2012, I booked 6 nights at Roman Tower through a very good deal. And with the help of no sandwich, dollar bill etc, I just kindly asked if there was anything better available. And they put me in the brand new Octavius Tower for all of 6 nights. It was like a 5 level upgrade and I was quite happy with it. My room had partial fountain view, and was on high floor.

I tried this in November and was told since I was already there on a comp offer, they couldn't upgrade me to the Laurel Collection. Maybe it was the desk agent's unwillingness to try, or maybe that's the rule. She was nice about it, but it didn't work!

easiest thing to do is ask, worse thing can happen is they say "no"...ive only had one issue not getting what i was told earlier I would get and after a phone call, I did get it...just simply ask if there is any rooms available for which ever tower/view you want

My wife and I have comp rooms in the Forum Tower May 15-18 and we're planning on trying this trick. We've never stayed at Caesars so even if it does not work, we're already thrilled with three nights there. We are going to celebrate our 24th anniversary, so mentioning that can't hurt. (even though they must hear this from many people )

DEFINITELY mention that you are there for your anniversary. We were comped Forum Tower for our 20th...mentioned that & we were upgraded to Laurel Tower!
Caesars is very generous with inexpensive or comped upgrades. First comp was in Forum Tower...I mentioned that it was my 40th bday (the DAY we arrived) & they moved us to Palace Tower--I remember saying, but we were booked in Forum...they assured us it was an upgrade. It WAS--I think a larger deluxe Palace Tower. The next time we were comped in Forum Tower they offered us Palace Tower for $30/nt. I said no--I like personal experience with all levels of rooms, wanted to check out Forum Tower. It was fine, but wished we had taken the upgrade!!

Just got back from a 2 night stay at Caesars. This was my second time trying to $20 trick and both times have worked. First time I booked the old roman tower and got upgraded to Augustus with view of the The Mirage. This time was amazing! I booked a king Laurel Premium room (before they switched back to listing the individual towers). We checked in late 11pm on Wednesday night. I handed the young guy my $20 sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He pulled up my reservation and said he could get me a view of the pool. I replied "do you have anything with a view of the fountains and a comfy bed?" I let him know that this was mine and my husband's first trip away from our son and would like to catch up on some sleep. He picked up the phone and called someone, I guess a supervisor, and said "I have a very, very, very nice guest here and they are celebrating a special occasion....." He hung up the phone and clicked around some more, then picked up the phone again, "I see you're approving this, just want to make sure it's view 1." And I'm thinking, "Yes I want view one." I have no idea what view 1 is, but it has to be better than view 2. He hangs up the phone and says "We are able to get you into our Augustus Suite at the same rate you're paying." WOW. He makes our room keys, tells us which tower and says it's at the end of the hall.

It was amazing. Double doors at the end of the hall on the 31st floor. It had it's own living room, 3 bathrooms. Corner suite, so it had views of the Bellagio fountains and the Flamingo. I had to look it up, we got upgraded to an Augustus Premium Suite. Worth everything penny. I'll continue to try the $20 trick.

Past trip went 50 50 for the $20 dollar trick. Might I add this was my first time trying it.

1st stay was a forum classic king . I handed the (young Caucasian lady I would say late 20's) the $20 sandwich(around 4am so had already lost most of the day) and she said they did not have any upgrades available. She then informed they did not have any more king rooms and that the king rooms were just a request.. Shocked she quoted that i could get a jr suite upgrade for $75 a night and the only option was to take a downgrade to two queen beds or pay an upgrade charge. Took the the downgrade and left. I knew i should have went to they lady that was waving and smiling at me instead of the one closest to me. smh

The next day tried it again this time in the day. This time handed the $20 she handed it back and said tips are based on service. She told me to wait and that many upgrades were available. The same jr suite the lady the other night said was available for $75 was now magically comped. O well you win some and you lose some. anyways got the jr suite. Very nice room. Going to try it on my next stay at the venetian. Fingers crossed.

This was my 2nd trip to Vegas - 2nd October for 7 nights. Last time I booked Palace room and got upgraded to Octavius room with Jacuzzi

This time I went cheap and just booked the Forum room. We got an Asian female at the desk and we asked if there was any complimentary upgrades whilst placing $30 on the desk. She typed away for a while then gave us two options. She could give us a bigger room with no jacuzzi (she never said which tower) OR a slightly smaller room with jacuzzi in the Palace tower. We opted for the Palace tower with Jacuzzi as its good for sore legs, muscles etc.

This room was almost identical to the one we had in Octavius two years ago but slightly BIGGER! Definitely worth the 30 bucks

Currently have the Palace rooms - same as my friend. We will try to do this on January 2nd - hopefully getting cojoining rooms at the minimum.

Any specific tower I should ask for?

I guess you'll find out Friday when you get there! No one here can say for sure. But your numbers work against you. Staying over the weekend, which is the busiest time in Vegas, will limit your upgrade. Checking in at 10PM, when most of the rooms have already been handed out, will work against you. Doing this during one of the busier months will, you guessed it, work against you.

But it is free to try! Just consider it your 1st gamble in town. I always hold the $20 bill in my fist when I ask if there is anything better available. Make sure they see it, but dont make a scene (dont waive it around). I never actually hand them anything, and THEN ask. So I never do the actual sandwich.

I make it clear that I am willing to bribe them for a better room. When you do the sandwich, you run the risk of them saying "Let me check, sorry I have nothing better" and then it becomes awkward if they should hand the 20 back, or if you paid for them to check or whatever.

We transferred over to Caesars after five days at Paris on May 28. We came straight over after checking out of Paris so it was before one when we walked up to the check in desk. We couldn't even use the Diamond check-in because the rooms were in my fiancee's name and she is not Diamond as I am. We got called over to a friendly young guy and quickly explained that we were in town for our wedding two days later while she put the $20 "sandwich" on the top of the counter. I tried to discretely play with my ID and Diamond card on the counter for whatever that was worth. He casually picked up the entire sandwich and laid it on the shelf on his side of the counter. He was a super guy who immediately said that he would try to find us something nice for our wedding and honeymoon. After looking thru his computer for a while, he told us that he had found the room he wanted to give us but that there was a hold on it. He asked for our patience and said he had to go in the back to see if he could get the hold lifted. He returned and said that he had gotten the OK to assign this room to us. He then told us that he was sure that we would like this room because it was one of the nicest ones in the entire hotel. Wow, that sounded good. :wiggle: As he was printing our keys, he informed us that the suite we had been assigned had almost 2,000 sq. ft in it and we would find it in the Augustus tower. We were dumbfounded at our great luck. He explained that we would take a left into the hallway after leaving the elevators and see two double doors at the end of the hall. We would have to use our key to open those double doors and then there would be a second set of double doors to get thru to enter our suite. Basically, the only thing he asked of us after getting his $20 squared away was that we do a Trip Advisor report. Of course, I made a mental note to mention him prominently in that report. I was more than glad to do that small thing.

Once we got thru that second set of double doors, we were amazed. We have been comped into all sorts of casino hotel rooms over the last 20 years including a number of suites but this was definitely the largest and most lavish accommodations that we have enjoyed. The living room was HUGE with an eight place conference table on one side, two full sized couches facing one another and an antique stuffed chair on one end of the coffee table between the couches. Roman statues were in the two corners flanking a floor to ceiling window facing The Flamingo. A 55" TV was on one wall and a bunch of artwork on the other wall behind the conference table. The foyer had a nice table and mirror on one side and a guest bathroom on the other.

We moved on down the hall past some more nice decorative pieces and the alcove with coffee maker, more drawers and storage. The closet next to the coffee alcove held our Caesars robes and the safe. We found an oval glass cart that we turned into a rolling bar cart. Taking a left, we found the bedroom. It also had a big picture window facing Flamingo/Cromwell and another big picture window on the other wall that gave a great view (29th floor) of the Bellagio Fountains. There were two couches in the bedroom that looked like something that Cleopatra might lounge around on with a raised end and an end with no back to it. They were offset so that anyone stretched out on them would be facing each other. Of course there was a big ole King bed there for our sleeping pleasure. Finally, the bedroom included a TV that came up out of wooden piece of furniture at the foot of the bed. That's a nice touch.

This suite had double bathrooms each had their own sinks and separate rooms for the toilet. The toilet room closest to the bedroom door also included a bidet. There was an oversized glassed-in shower that connected the two bathrooms and a big jacuzzi tub in the bathroom on the left. There was a total of six phones in this suite. (1 in each toilet room, 1 the bedroom, 1 in the living/dining area, 1 in the foyer) 2 full baths and 1 guest bathroom off the foyer.

We had truly hit the jackpot at Caesars. :woohoo: We were originally booked into the Palace tower but with a normal room so this was a great wedding present. So the $20 trick worked wonderfully for us even when considering our wedding plans.
