Maybe they are testing the waters (so to speak).

    Gladly, it's temporary...for now.

I know Vegas is constantly changing but I wish it
would continue to build and develop attractions and landmarks that
make it a fun place for visitors vs. more retail shops and malls.
I'm one of those women (yes, we exist) who does not enjoy spending the
day shopping...Especially not in Vegas. *shudder*

I saw this news the other day and really hate it. Part of going to a "resort" is the overall ambiance. Trying to fill every nook and cranny with profit generating operations (not just retail) makes it feel much less like a resort to me. I actually liked the old Ballys entrance and hope this temporary eyesore goes away and stays away

Bemused by the outrage. I never noticed anyone paying attention to those fountains and didn't think anyone would care if they were gone. I'm more concerned about the eventual fate of the Brahma shrine than those fountains.

I really can't think of anyone who has admitted to us they actually shopped at stores tied to the casinos other than liquor. They are just ridiculously priced for the most part. Now the unique book store or memorabilia shop is an exception. Maybe it a local(?) thing?

    Open only for Halloween Week.

I hate to say it.... It's almost fitting to put the fountains out of their Misery for a while. The original approach was so elegant, but Caesars has been junking up that area for a long time. Latest being the Absinthe tent. I understand that increased traffic necessitated rerouting the drive, but they could have preserved the original cedar lined drive and fountains as the pedestian approach. But no... let's wring every dollar we can by funneling people though the Spanish Steps mish mash. It irks me whenever I go to/from Cromwell and Flamingo. Once inside, it's my favorite resort.

This is an example of why I've decided for the time being to stop visiting Las Vegas and go to Atlantic City instead. Vegas just isn't as special of a place as it used to be. The deals aren't very good anymore and the attractions that made it special are all being removed. "Temporary retail", give me a break. CET is testing the waters to see if they can get away with doing away with the fountains. They honestly believe that people will want to go to Vegas instead of a more local casino when there is really no difference between them anymore.

I like how the Caesars responce makes it sound like this Samsung thing is some sort of attraction like Disney or something and not a big billboard.

I don't have a problem with resorts tweaking how they monetize their square footage... but yeah this was definitely in poor taste.

Vegas has always been about money, but what makes it special are the spectacular lengths to which resort operators go to in order to separate us from our money. Building extravagant hotels in the middle of the desert and attracting top-notch talent across every facet of their business sounds like a pain in the ass to me. This Samsung store was not built in that same spirit, so it deserves the outrage it receives.

Great! Now I can get a replacement for my year-and-a-half old S6. Oh, wait, I can do that at my local Best Buy, Verizon store, or an number of places w/in 2 miles of my house. Don't need to visit the Strip for that. Gambling, casino, shows, great dining, that I don't have.

6 trips to Vegas now and I never noticed they had fountains. Even stayed there once. Noticed Rod Stewart though but went ‘cool’ and carried on to the slots. Sigh. Guess this explains why I get lost.

One more reason to dispise Samsung. I just had my initial prayer at the CP Shrine (not religious but never gamble without fist going here) and noticed the ugly Samsung booth and flooring around it that covers the fountains in front of CP.

I wouldn't worry about the Samsung store being permanent. This is not the first time this has happened. Twice before, in 2008 and in 2010, "The View" broadcast live from Caesars Palace and they built a set complete with audience seating on top of the fountains, just like this pop up store. This is not the first time Caesars has done this and I am sure it will not be the last, so I wouldn't predict the demise of the fountains just yet - however with these corporations, you can never completely say never since they did remove the Paris and Monte Carlo fountains.

I saw the set in 2010 as I walked by Caesars on the way to Bellagio and remarked to the friend I was with "Imagine if we run into Barbara Walters again?" (we had been walking on the Upper East Side of Manhattan a couple of years earlier and happened to see her walk out of ABC right in front of us and get into a waiting car). That evening, we were walking into Bellagio via the pedestrian walkway from Caesars when who comes teetering toward us in high heels? BARBARA WALTERS! She was frail and had two men beside her (I assumed they were show producers) and no one was paying any attention to her - they had no idea she was in their midst. I was so excited that my prediction had come true that I nudged my friend and shouted "It's Barbara Walters!" and the two men with her looked around frantically as people realized she was there and swooped in on her. I yelled "Sorry, Barbara!" and ran off into the Bellagio casino.

Agree on so many levels. The more often I visit Vegas, the more I find there are less attractions to actually take up time during the day.

I fucking hate shit like this. I'll say it until I'm blue i the face. Better gambling rules, will always boost your revenue. Not more overpriced shops. Malls are going the way of the horse buggy - all these genius CEO's are going to have a helluva lot of space to fill one day in the not too distant future.
