Poker players don't always have common sense.
I wouldn't presume that it would be so simple to just get the casino camera footage to track down the driver. It's been discussed before that they aren't using the cameras in ways to necessarily protect their customers. Based on all the actions taken by his employer to make an example of him, it seems to me to be the opposite.
I agree. A couple important things to keep in mind. The surveillance footage at Cosmo or Palms Place (if they have any there) would be the only places they could identify the cab. If he wanted to keep the money the fact that a doorman at the Bellagio saw the paper bag in his cab would've never been known. It's not like the police would put out an APB asking if anyone has seen a paper bag.
And even if they identified the cab from the Cosmo footage, all it would be is a degenerate poker players claim that he left $300k in this guys cab. No other proof. I think if he wanted to steal it, he easily could have.
Also the $1000 wasn't a tip from the poker player, it was an award from his cab company for being named Driver of the Year. So far there isn't any report of the poker player giving him anything, only a statement from him that he would give him a reward.
Did it say if this incident is what got him driver of the year? If not, that just shows what kind of person he is.
Even assuming that the cameras could track him, there was nothing to stop him from taking 25K for his troubles. What recourse would the poker player have if the bag only had 275K in it when it was returned? Would he accuse the "good samaritan" cabbie of theft because the bag was short 25K? Even if he did, there is no way to prove that the cabbie stole anything.
What if the bag was not left from the last cab rider ?
( I don't know the story or the important timeline of events )
300K ?......HONESTLY, I'd have to think it over - as to
keeping it or returning it.
I know I'd mull it over - as to my options .
ANYBODY ELSE WANNA BE HONEST ? about this ?:evillaugh
Has there been any word on who the poker player was?
Just read that he got a $10K reward. Poker player still remaining anonymous
I'm surprised that no one here seems to realize that most Las Vegas cabs have surveillance video in them. The cab company could have went back and seen this driver handling the brown paper bag. If he were to keep this, his only shot at not being busted would have been to run for the border.
With all of the surveillance in Vegas, even if I had a thought about keeping the money, which I don't think I would, I would be way to paranoid to do so.
I'm glad the guy got a reward. I thought the poker player was gonna stiff him.
who is the poker player?
Honestly, I would have returned it. I have an ethics imbalance so I tend to go out of my way to make sure I pay for everything or make sure I don't get too much change. And frankly, keeping it would stress the hell out of me. I would be terrified to do anything that might tip off the fact that I kept it.
No one else finds it odd, other than me, that someone is carrying around $300K and still has to take a cab???
Poker players are odd ducks to begin with and there's no telling if he was sober to begin with. I just wish they would start figuring out better ways to carry their money. This isn't the first time I've heard of one carrying money around in a sack.
