    My Trip Report

So I was supposed to go out to Vegas with a bachelor party of 10 guys (none of which I knew besides the groom) and I knew that it was not going to be the kind of trip that I like to do. You know... the wake up... gamble... drink.... gamble... drink.... eat... gamble some more... kind of trip. I got the sense that most of the guys going were more of the club/social scene kind of guys. So after running it by the groom, I had his blessing to invite my brother. He knew that I wasn't going to be doing a lot of the activities they had planned and he was totally fine with it. What can I say? I'm not a clubber, I don't like golf, and not really into guns. All of which were planned activities. I was more there for moral support. Haha. Anyways...

Started of the trip by surprising my brother with and upgrade to First Class on our flight. He had never flown first before and I figured what better way to start a brother trip than to fly in style (plus I don't know when we will ever get another guy trip again in the future being that he just got married). Our flight was crazy early in the morning on that Friday so he was completely oblivious to the fact that we were in a special line for check-in/security and we had group 1 boarding. It wasn't until we got on the plane and sat down that he realized.. and it was a fun thing to watch. We got our pre-takeoff drinks and started off our Vegas adventure right. We proceeded to do our best to drink the plane dry over the next four hours and landed safely and with no issues.

We made our way over to Harrah's and checked in at 9am. I tried the 20$ trick with no success (the woman at the desk tried damn hard to hook us up... she was on the phone for probably ten minutes and even went in the back to do something) but no luck. But she did let us check in crazy early so I just gave her the money anyways- good karma I guess. I think it made her day after seeing her hand me the money back in defeat before I told her to keep it. We got up to our room and checked out our High Roller view room. Absolutely breathtaking--- I'm kidding. I wanted the back of the hotel to keep away from the noise of the strip so it worked out great for us. Room was basic but nice enough. My only complaint was the shower setup. Who the hell designs a shower door that only covers half of the bathtub? I mean, what is the kind of nonsense? The bathroom floor was like a small lake after either of us showered. We literally had to put down towels on the whole floor just so we didn't die trying to get to the toilet in the middle of the night.

Finally, it was time to head downstairs and start the degenerate gambling. Within 10 minutes my brother was up 500$. What a start! He kept hitting multipliers on a lightning link game during the free spins. Put him in a good mood. Ha.

We bounced around Harrah's for a couple hours playing any machine that caught our eye while we waited for the other members of the bachelor party to arrive. Mostly up and down to the point where neither of us had lost anything (including the +500 on my bros end). Finally, all of the other member of the group had assembled at the hotel and they found my bro and I at a Buffalo Gold machine. We exchanged pleasantries and they wandered of to grab some food before one of their outings. We kept nailing bonus games with almost zero pay out. Buffalo games are always cruel to me. We decided a scenery change was in need so we waddled over to the Linq. We sat down at the Lightning Link games right by the entrance and this time it was my turn. Hit a 500 bomb on the Lock it and was 1 away from filling the screen. That always gets the heart pumping. So at this point we were both up a nice little chunk of change and we wandered the Linq for probably 4 or 5 hours. The waitresses were on-point. We drank like it was our last day on earth. So much fun. But the problem with the alcohol is that it makes money seem like a toy. My brother, being a much smaller man than myself, was definitely feeling it so we decided to head over to the Cosmo for some grub. On the walk over there he spilled the beans that he had lost all of his winnings plus some. Ouch. Definitely time to eat.

We stumbled our way into the Cosmopolitan and I was determined to try the new upscale food court they have on the second floor. We decided to try Lardo (as the line for the chicken place was crazy long) and I don't know if it was the booze or what... but I got the steak sandwich... and it was absolutely amazing. Seriously, one of the best steak sandwiches I have ever eaten. The meat was like butter. I will be going back there for sure in the future. My brother loved his food as well. I honestly can't remember what he ordered though. Pastrami? Sure... lets go with that. We wandered downstairs and gambled and drank for a few more hours. Finally tried out a Harley Davidson machine. Hit 43 free games with minimal payout... but still fun. It was now 7pm and my brother had burned through his daily budget. I was actually up 800 at that point and was nearing exhaustion so we decided to pack it in for the night. I'm finally old enough to realize that a good nights sleep is more important to me so I can enjoy the rest of the trip and not be a zombie. It took probably 14 trips to get to this point... so it was a lesson learned the hard way. LOL.

So one thing I didn't take into consideration was that by hitting the bed early, my body was going to wake me up at my normal local time for work. 5:30 am Chicago time is 3:30 Vegas time. Yay. Wayyyy too early but I was up- so I made the best of it. My bro was still sleeping so I made my way downstairs and proceeded to lose all of my day 1 budget in the 4 hours it took my brother to get downstairs. I have never had such a bad run of VP luck in my life. I couldn't even hit a flush. I even hit the bonus on a Buffalo Grand that re-triggered so much that the guy next to me got angry and left in disgust. He must have been having a bad trip. Ha. But he would have gotten the last laugh if he had stuck around. I ended up with 80+ free spins for a grand total of.......... 90$ on a 3$ spin bet. WTF! That hadn't even covered my losses on that machine. It was ROUGH. But you know what? It was day 2 at this point... so out came day 2's budget. It was like it never happened, right? My brother finally woke his ass up and met me downstairs. Now, at this point, I had already had 8 or 9 Irish coffees. I was having a hard time sitting still as the caffeine raged through my veins so we took a little walk down the strip and enjoyed the early morning emptiness of the strip.

We wandered from Harrah's all the way down to Paris and back. On our way back, the gambling bug set in again. We stopped in at Bally's and proceeded to play there for a few hours. Now, I know my brother well. If left to his own devices... he was going to gamble hard to make up for the last day's losses. I didn't want the same scenario to play out where he ran out of money early so we decided to pool our funds and play together for most of the day. It's a marathon... not a sprint (this is coming from the guy that lost a large sum on money on the early morning blitz before the brother woke up). I'm a hypocrite.. but I had a bigger bankroll than him... so it made sense at the time. This strategy actually worked like a charm! We sat down at the giant Zorro machine at Bally's and proceeded to hit a handpay! My brother had never hit one before so he was pretty stoked. 1500$ up. BOOM. We were back in the game.

    20190406_132743.jpg 20190406_134701.jpg

Coming off our win we decided it was time to get some food. I had been drinking for probably 12 hours at this point with no food... so it was more of a necessity. We hit up Dirt Dogs (I think thats the name?) at the shops outside Bally's. Another awesome find. Food was greasy, delicious, and plentiful. It was probably the first hot dog I had ever eaten with a knife and fork... but worth it.

    20190406_113914.jpg

After eating far too much food and loving every minute of it... we loosened our belts and headed back to the Linq. And that is when we discovered our new love. DRAGON LINK! We played this bank of those games at the Linq for almost the rest of the night. We were still pooling our money at this point and man did we have a great time. The waitress was bringing us drinks without us even asking at this point and we were having some crazy good luck. Go down a hundred... win twice that. Rinse and repeat. That was until I spotted one of the machines had a Major maxed out at a grand. The others were hovering around 6 or 7 hundred. I knew it was our destiny. We sat down and pumped in our first hundred. On the second spin, we hit the bonus game. On the first spin of the bonus, we got the Dragon Link. And like it was prophecy... this little nugget dropped in.

    20190407_104606.jpg

1000$ in the wallet. Within another hour... we hit two 500$ minors as well. The waitress remarked that every time she came around we were hitting a progressive. That statement wasn't really that far off. It was a good night. We met up with the bachelor party guys for a bit... did a little more drinking... and decided to call it a night. It was only 9pm. What the hell have I become?

Day 3 started like the day before. My dumbass woke up way too early with a slight difference... my brother did as well. We went downstairs and decided we were going to hit some tables since most of our time had been spent sitting at machines. We got destroyed. He likes the carnival games so that's what we played. No bueno. I should have just left my wallet on the felt because it seemed like I was going in for a crisp new hundred about every 10 minutes. We decided to shake it off and get some food.

My buddy that lives out in Vegas had dropped me a text and wanted to meet up. He met us at the Linq where he found us on... surprise... DRAGON LINK. We had hit another 500$ minor right as he walked up. We were in love with that stupid game. My buddy (who has become a crazy high roller since moving out there) decided he was going to play the pirate slot right behind us. We watched him feed in 1500$ playing 40$ a spin and get down to his last 80$ and finally lined up 5 of the gold symbols. 1400$ hand pay. He was back even. Thank god. I didn't want to see him lose so much money right before we ate. Oh, but he didn't stop. He got his money from the attendant and fed it right back in. Lost all of it plus another 500$. Ouch. As we were heading to the Valet to grab his car he suddenly was struck with the urge to play a roll or two of craps. I practically begged him to just go to lunch... but he wasn't having it. He plopped a wad of 100's on the table (not even knowing how much he had) and bought in. Turns out... it was 7500$. He lost all of that in... oh... I don't know... seven minutes? He is a crazy person. I dragged him away from the table and we headed over to Caesars for the buffet. On the way over there I asked him how he was comfortable gambling so much money. He pulled out his phone and showed me his winnings from the week prior at the Mirage. It was a picture of cash like something you would see in a heist movie. Good god. He had won over 150k playing craps. Who has my friend become? Lol. I'm more than a little worried about his lifestyle. But what can I do?

We made our way into the hosts office and he got us all free buffets. That was a very nice and unexpected surprise. We ate until we couldn't even move. Always really enjoy that buffet. The brisket from the meat station was the standout winner. It just melted in your mouth. Highly recommend. We parted ways with my buddy as he had "business" to attend to and my brother and I (very slowly) wandered back to the linq. Met up with bachelor party guys and chilled at the main bar in the middle for a while. Once again, got killed at VP. It was starting to get late again on our last night and the younger version of myself would have stayed out all night to squeeze every last drop out of Vegas. But the slightly older me (wiser or lazy? Idk) decided that 1 more hour of gambling was all I had left in me. My bro and I headed back to DRAGON LINK! Haha. It was like a drug. Guess what? Popped again for another 500$ win. That's when we decided to call it. Our trip was done.

We had such a great time. I normally get crazy depressed when that moment hits that I know my trip is essentially over. But this time it was different because I will be back in 1.5 months! So apparently, that is all I need to not fall into a dark depression when leaving. Another trip! My brother and I went to our rooms and counted out our money. We both were going home only down about 100$ a day (and that included food and tips). What an awesome trip it turned out to be. I'll take that any day. Dragon Link saved us on countless occasions. I cannot even express how excited I am to be going back. My girlfriend and I will be out there in the middle of May staying at Nobu in CP. It will be a different kind of trip... but fun none the less! Until next time Vegas...

I'll give you a little tip I learned on a YouTube video about the Dragon Link games. It won us a ton more money than the other people I saw playing. Always play the highest denomination you can afford for your bankroll just at the lowest bet possible. It let's you adjust anywhere from 1c to a 1$ per line.

Example: We were playing 10c denom @ 25 lines. So 2.50 a spin (minimum bet on the 10c). The progressives adjust according to the denom. Whenever we hit a mini- it pays 100$. The person next to us was playing 1c denom @ 25 lines (max bet- 10x) so they were also playing 2.50 a spin. Whenever they hit a mini- it only paid them 10$. I cringed everytime I saw them hit one. The higher progressives also adjust accordingly. We would have lost out on so much money had we not known this. Just a little advice on your future battles with the Dragon Link.
