Yes, during the Cold War it was East vs. West and who could trust those sneaky reds.

The most famous face off came during the 1936 games in Berlin, Hitler’s **** supermen vs. the known world. Jesse Owens slam dunked him in the track competition, a comeuppance for all time.

There have been some great social-political moments in the Olympics. And some tragic ones.

Outside of occasionally watching the Badgers, no.

I've no use for the FBS. If you want a champion, hold a tournament --- play the games.

Determine a victor, don't vote on a winner.

How should tournaments and playoffs be seeded? Bibs/starting positions assigned for races?

    I don't care; seeding isn't the competition.

In a sufficiently large field, I don't think seeding matters a great deal.

Comparing FBS college football to figure skating is quite a stretch. The panel of suits do not chose the winner of the football game (excluding B1G - somewhat sarc). The panel only determines the participants in the playoffs.

Of course, we all know a Group of Five team can't win it because they've failed ever time they've had a sho ...

    Oh, never mind.

The games aren't decided by votes!

FWIW - I am in favor of expanding the number of participants in the playoffs.

Who plays whom is, however, decided by votes. Who gets IN is decided by votes. Look, I'm not saying FBS is pairs figure skating. Though the way the conferences and CFP are moving the rules this year sure makes it feel more like it. But seeding matters. Breadth of field matters more. People are sitting in a room making judgments, which they probably are as soundly capable of doing as diving judges. The teams DO decide the results, but judges decide who even gets a shot. If looking for purity in a conclusive, on-the-field decision of worth, CFB ain't it, no matter how much of a lock the SEC and Clemson might be every year.
