My recent experience was at the downtown properties, so maybe it's different elsewhere. But, my wife and I play on the same card and our accounts used to be linked. Meaning if she went shopping and paid with points and didn't have enough points on her account, it would come out of my points. Not anymore. With their new system, all accounts are now separate.
The PIA is that I now have to show up with ID when she is done shopping to pay with my points.

BTW, I absolutely despise shopping and was very happy with the old system. I didn't have to be there.

where is shopping at boyds downtown. Just a few little stores at Cal and tiny convenience stores at all 3. Not exactly Walmarts. Unless it has changed in last 2 months, the system is antique. Writing down card # on paper. I have never had a problem with my wife using my card (Saphire) to get discount, but usually pay with cash because points are worth more for food.

Joe, I guess you never use the points for food (always gold card and/or food credit), so you have to use them in shopping.
I always convert the points into cash. Not as valuable as in shopping, but cash is cash.

She has shopped at the Cal gift shop and also the MSS gift shop.

I'm a hoarder, so I keep my points on the card. We get the Gold Card for food, so we never pay with points unless we treat a relative or friend. Once a year for our Oct anniversary we cash out 400,000 points ($200 each) and play games that we wouldn't normally do. Wheel of Fortune, Mega Bucks etc.

I'm always worried that one day we'll check in and they say no Gold Card for you. So I keep points on my card.

The good news is we checked in on 12/23 and got our Gold Card and also still got our gift certificate thank you for the Cal Gift shop. It used to be $200 and this trip it dropped to $150, but still a nice touch. We're still on their radar as valued guests. I just give it to my wife and say spend it. I don't need another piece of Cal, logo clothing. So she bought some different "clutches" for her tablet, a jacket and some other stuff.

An aside...I was chatting with Oleg and commented that Jose was off Christmas week. He mentioned Jose now has the most seniority of all the bartenders at MSS, so he can take off any holiday he wants. My quip back was that my wife and I must have the most seniority of guests staying there. I do believe we have been staying there for 19 or 20 years.
