I am at Sam's Town now. The Gold Card has some new fine print. "You are pre-approved for up to $100 per day in dining charges...All complimentaries are subject to Management discretion."

    That's very disappointing, big downgrade.

Apparently this was added to clarify expectations and to assist those with false expectations of its use? Also I would think this can be adjusted by ones host to accommodate those with expected play.

So you just charge the rest to the room and negotiate later or pay the difference in points? I too drink water at meals. 100$ seems ok but I don't get the gold card except by accident pre-small print. But in a five day trip that is 500$ in free eats. Maybe not as good as before but not bad.

we were at sam's town in mid-october and had the same wording on our gold card, but at check-in, were verbally told that the new limit was $150 a day and to ignore the new wording.
if you are still at st, I would check at the front desk to make sure what the correct amount is.

as an aside, we went over $150 by about $7 one day (thanks to the big jump in prices at the new steak house), and at checkout I asked the clerk to call and see if that amount above and beyond the $150 could be comped, and it was. So I 'guess' that an amount above the $150 a day can be negotiated..how far above, who knows.

but agree with other observations on just not this thread that st seems to be cutting corners on its comps.

Its a really strange story. I also get the Gold Card and have been for awhile. I asked my Casino host what it allowed me to ...she said its good for 2 people, and it covers one appetizer for each, one main meal, one dessert, and drink..per person, and I have also went over and was presented with a bill at the end when I have gone in with other people. The servers are excellent in trying to put as much as allowed on your Gold Card. It doesn't sound right.

I must admit I have never read the back of our Gold Card at downtown Boyd, but I will in 3 weeks and report back.

Joe I only remember you said to the waitress that both you and your wife were gold card and we're paying the rest (except tip of course) with points. She said she would watch it and adjust accordingly (max it). I don't recall a figure but do recall the scrumpuous meal if that is even a word!
In addition to looking for a $# I recall mine said the Cal Club Snack Bar was one of the options. If so try the double cheeseburger. I recall it was excellent prior to closing the bar down.

We treat others at Redwood quite a few times a year and the severs, especially Janelle, are very good at massaging our Gold Cards for minimum expense to us. I know our bill before the Gold Card was $304 for the 5 of us, but I no longer have the receipt to see what went on Gold and what I paid in points.:drunk:

If it is just the two of us dining, we have never had an overage on whatever this magic limit might be, at either Redwood or Second St Grill.

We are at Sam's now too. When we checked in they said the card is good for $150 although the fine print says $100.

Just going by your name ScubaStever, are you a rec or commercial diver?

First, I think the title of this thread should say at Sam's Town, not Boyd. There have been prior reports of the new gold card limits at Sam's, but none yet, at the other Boyd properties.

I know some of the responses reference talking about charges with a host. Well at Sam's Town the cheap ass GM got rid of all the hosts, and your "host" is actually a person in the upper casino management chain. I think I read there is one other real host remaining there.

I know that in late Sept, ours said the card limit was $100 for one person in the room, or $150 for two people at Sam's.

Guess I don't gamble enough, but what's a Gold Card and how do you qualify?

To answer the last 3 posts,
gambler, there was a Scuba Steve in a movie and a guy at work calls me that. I am a certified diver but haven't gone under in years.

zignerlv, an admin created this thread when I but the post into a thread about Gold Card abuse.

elaine.mcgrew, my guess is it take over $10000 in action per day since that is my history over the past 2 years at Sam's.

A Gold Card is free food at all the restaurants on a property. In our case, that is any restaurant at the three downtown Boyd properties. But if you read through this thread you can see that Sam's has now put a daily limit on the card. I'll find out in a couple of weeks if MSS has done the same.

Qualifying is kind of a mystery. We do anywhere from 10-15,000 a day in coin-in and have been getting the Gold Card for years. Usually 4-5 trips per year. Other posters do more coin-in, but are denied the Gold Card. I don't know the answer. I have a theory that part of it is our loyalty to MSS. We have been staying there for 19 years.
