    My Trip Report

Following @DaiLun ’s lead only a couple weeks ago I am doing the same trip to Borgata and then up to NYC for the week.

I fly into Philadelphia tomorrow and will be staying in a comped room at the Borgata Sunday and Monday. Then Tuesday heading up to the City for a Tuesday-Saturday trip.

I’ve never been to Atlantic City before so I think I’ll do some daytime exploring weather permitting and enjoy the Borgata Buffet as well as maybe the Monday Happy Hour at the Japanese restaurant they have.

For New York… My alma mater, Iowa State is playing in the NIT Tip Off at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday and Friday so that’s the main reason I’m heading that way. Usually go to the holiday basketball tournament they play in ever year. Other years have been Maui, Bahamas, Myrtle Beach (relocated from Puerto Rico due to a hurricane), Orlando etc. Why not New York?!

I love New York and have quite a few friends there so it should be a good time. Only real plans are the tournament plus the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday. Other than that, I’m just gonna relax from work and enjoy the energy of the city!

Since my flight was free from points, the room was comped at Borgata ($400 a night!), and the room at the Andaz 5th Ave is free ($500 a night!) from my Hyatt points, the goal is to pay for every other thing with my winnings for a free thanksgiving trip. Lofty goal but I’m coming in confident after the beating I took in Vegas a couple months ago.

This probably won’t be as live as my other trip reports but I’ll try to do a daily update at a minimum.

    Stay wavy, Gravy Navy!

I hope you enjoy the Thanksgiving Day parade. I went once because my mom knew someone who got us tickets for restricted bleacher seats north of Columbus Circle. We froze our asses off!

Always love an AC report, I’m silently boycotting driving up until gas prices go down a bit so I’m looking forward to seeing pics and hearing about all the wins I’m missing lol. Good luck and kick some ass!

Made it to the airport bright and early! Came 10min before boarding and got through security in 2min and 20sec with Clear and Precheck. Unfortunately the coffee place near my gate is closed and the 7/11 had a line out the door. So no preflight coffee for me and don’t have enough time to hit up the lounge.

But I am next to the Gaming Lounge which is always fun to see

WiFi on the plane bitches! I’m not stuck in here with you, you’re stuck in here with me!

Also 30% of the reason why I use T-Mobile is for the free Wi-Fi on any Gogo In Flight service. Which delta exclusively uses domestically.

Speeds are pretty decent these days too. Minus the upload of course 08BA9851-14CD-476C-95B1-AEDD3A9D40C0.png DD198937-1EE3-4AEF-84BC-E27D814F4DA7.jpeg

Took a while since it seems like Delta eliminated the pre departure beverage from their vocabulary but I got Bloody Mary #1!

Just listening to podcasts and watching the F1 race and vibing

Flight into my layover of Detroit was way early so now could a few hours to burn. Hitting up the Sky Club lounge because I only shit in luxury not the same toilets the peasants use in the normal terminal :shy:

I love the architecture of this airport

Got some quick bites in the club because Delta again refuses to serve hot meals in the air domestically anymore.

Will probably get a real meal down at the BrewPub by my gate. They had a live piano player too so will be fun to relax to that for a bit.

Also the beauty of these former Northwest Airlines hubs like Detroit Minneapolis and Memphis was the self serve full bar. Also seems like Covid took that away, damn. But I got Bloody Mary #3!

Caught the Browns and Lions game at the Brewpub and it was like over the air 480p and blurry and didn’t even fill the whole screen lol.

Ordered the “brat sliders” and was basically given 3 regular or 75% sized brats lol. Was decent though.

Also got a “nice” gate number

Hello there Philadelphia! Eagles stadium while a game is going on and the skyline in the background isn’t too common of a view!

Getting the airport train to downtown to catch the Atlantic City train. Looks like I may miss the 4:24 train by a mere 3min and the next one isn’t until 6:15. So I might be getting a beer downtown Philly!

Made it to the downtown station. Fun fact. There’s no damn bars anywhere near the station. Closest one is 12min across the river so 24min round trip. Not really worth it if you ask me. But the station is beautiful at least! 734B87EB-585F-4A58-96B5-2DE0B11C4D49.jpeg B30BC056-DAA2-42A1-837D-F0949185B657.jpeg 513775AD-26ED-482A-A126-3046A3639B6C.jpeg

I don’t understand why the train service from the airport to center city is every 30 minutes, it really should be more frequent, as in every 15 minutes. I think the ridership would improve.

when you arrive in AC, there is free Jitney service from the Train Station to the casinos.

To be honest, there's really nothing at all around it. Instead of going across the river, probably better to look at University City to the west. Plenty of stuff over there...next time!

Shit the bed, that’s messed up.

I thought there was a bar in 30th St Station. There was a decent bar across Market St, but I think it closed due to the Pandemic. There are some decent places closer to Center City and on the UofPenn campus, but not close enough to let you enjoy a worry free repast.

I’ve lived in the Philly area my whole life and visit AC frequently, I guess I’m just a wide eyed Pollyanna. I just don’t understand why it is so damned difficult getting from PHL to AC. Think of your trip, you get off the plane and have to wait for an hourly train into 30th st Station. Then you have to wait for once every two hour rail service to AC. From the time you got to the curb until you checked into your room in AC, how long did that take?

Alternate service includes the airport train to Jefferson Station and taking the Greyhound Bus, or taking the Airport line to Jefferson Station, grabbing the PATCO high speed line to Lindenwold, NJ and picking up the AC Train.

A couple years ago, the Casino Reinvestment Development Industry coughed up about $700,000 to subsidize weekend Air Canada Toronto flights to AC. It was for about 4 months, it cost about $650,000 and was a total failure. Since casinos were legalized in AC in 1978, the casino industry has collected about $14 billion in tax revenue. If you included the 6% +/- sales tax on non casino rooms and meals, it would be much more. One would think that there could be some better ways for folks to get from Philly to AC.
