    My Trip Report

    Preface and some foreshadowing

My guy and I were so happy when 2020 ended, we were like "Bye Bitch. Don't let the door hit you on the way out". However, 2021 came along and said "Hold my beer". I'll spare you the long painful details, but my guy ended up going in to the hospital on 2/28 and he was diagnosed with liver disease. We thought he would get stabilized in the hospital so that he could come home and get healthy enough for a transplant. It didn't work out that way. He never made it home and he passed away on 4/3/2021 at only 51 years old. So it's been a painful and grief filled few months.

I did go to Vegas for 11 days in June and we called this my "Eat, Play, Recov(er)" trip. A take on "Eat, Pray, Love". It was awesome to be back after 2 years and many friends and family met me there, but the gambling was a disaster. I did manage to tier match at Wynn and complete the promotion at the 4Qs though. My guy was a big foodie and a gigantic Jose Andres fan so the plan was to eat in excess at many higher end places. Done. I ate at Jaleo, China Poblano (twice), Giada, Barry's, MAG, Overlook Cafe, Le Thai, Lakeside, Andiamo's and Gordon Ramsey Pub and Grill. During this trip my friend, A, said she was coming back in July with her daughters for a few days for a Bruno Mars concert. She said if I wanted to come out at the end of her trip she would extend her stay after her adult daughters left. I told her to let me get home and I'll look at the finances and schedule and see if I could swing it.

Well.... wouldn't you know it. The Wynn sent me an offer for 3 weeknights with $100 food credit and $100 resort credit. My birthday is also at the end of July so I could also use the $150 birthday food credit at The Wynn. I also was able to book the 4th night with the Wynn app. Flights on SWA were pretty cheap and I still had some credits left. I couldn't come up with one reason to not go so I booked it and started planning.

Right before July 4th I was contacted on Linkedin about a potential new executive opportunity. I wasn't looking for a career change, but I told them I was willing to talk to them to see if we happen to be a good fit. We had some great phone conversations and they asked me to come up for a 4 hour in person interview with 5 people on 7/23. So I also had to prep for that quite a bit while planning.

My guy was not this biggest gambler, but he would like to go to the locals casino here with me because it is also a resort and he LOVED their restaurants, bars and it is a great place to play Pokemon Go (or so he told me). The day before I was leaving for this trip I got a memory reminder from July 24, 2016 on Facebook from his account. On that day he sat down next to me and hit his one and only royal ever. He shared it on Facebook, I put the post below. The timing was kind of incredible so I was hopeful this was a great sign for my upcoming trip.

My Guy's Facebook Post from 7/24/2016:
It's true! It can happen to you! Best strategy is to stroll around Casino del Sol picking up Pokémon and hitting all the Pokéstops, then drop in to play $40 for one last try next to a master. Only 10 or so more to go to catch up with Kathie. I'll keep trying, ... kind of.
    Wok's royal.jpg

I think that's all the background for the trip ..... let's go find out what happened shall we?

Day 1 - 7/25 - Travel, Le Cave, TI, and Resorts World

My flight left at 6am and it is a short flight from Tucson, there were no delays. I had the offer to do an e-upgrade to the Tower Suites at the Wynn so I put myself on the list. Before I left I found out that I got the upgrade for about $90/night. I grabbed a cab and headed over to the Tower Suites entrance. Since it was so early in the morning, and a Sunday, there were no rooms ready. The agent told me that a room would probably be ready about 11am and that I would get a text. I dropped my bags off at the bell desk and went over gambling. A was having brunch with her girls at Canyon Ranch before she put them in a cab for the airport. I had always wanted to try brunch at Le Cave so I booked that for myself at 10am. I had a couple of hours to gamble before brunch and I lost a gigantic portion of my bankroll. I actually thought I was going to go through the bankroll for my entire trip within the first few hours.

My brunch reservation was for 10am when Le Cave opened. This brunch made up small plates and you tell them if you want what they are passing around or not. It was really delicious and I even managed to not overdo it. I would definitely have this brunch again, but it would be more fun to have this meal with someone else. Eating to excess alone wasn't great.

I went back to gambling to see if I could salvage anything from the day. Luckily I had these 2 hits and they helped a bit.

A came over about 1pm after her girls were on the way. I still didn't have a text from the Wynn so we went to Tower Suites desk and we were told the room wasn't ready yet, but they did see that there was a rush put on the room. Once again we were told that I would get a text when it was ready. We then went over to TI since we each had a little free slot play and they had a promotion they sent us where if we earned a certain amount of points we could get more free slot play. Played video poker here for a bit, but nothing exceptional happened. We then walked to Resorts world where we joined the slot club. No matching for my lowly CET diamond status (or matching status I have from The Wynn, MGM and the D), but since my birthday was in July I did manage to score $5 fsp. Woohoo! We played here for a bit and got some dinner at the food court. I got Italian and A got Texas BBQ. It was all okay, but nothing happened that made me feel like I need to spend a lot of time at Resorts World.

It was now after 6pm and I still didn't have a text from The Wynn. So we decided to get back over there to find out what the story was with our room. There were several people in line in front of us and it was taking quite a bit of time. The lady behind me was also checking on what was taking her room so long, she had originally checked it and been given a room that reeked of weed so she immediately asked for a change. Anyhoodle ... while in line, at 7pm, I got a text that my room was ready. So it took almost 12 hours for my rushed room. It was a nice room and all, but it looked exactly like the room I had in June that I booked through the App. The $50 daily breakfast comp and coffee service from 7 to 830am were awesome perks though. We unpacked, played a bit more and called it a night.

    Tomorrow - downtown

Day 2 - 7/26 - Downtown and an embarrassment of riches.

We had breakfast at The Terrace point Cafe. A ordered a bacon and avocado omelet and I ordered the croissant cake. We split them both so we each had some savory and sweet. It was a great idea and delicious.

I knew I wanted to hit the 4Q promotion today and planned on a long gambling day so we headed downtown early. I told A that my bucket list today was to hit a $4K royal since I've only ever done that once in my life. Since the first day was such a losing day I figure I wanted to use some of my LVA coupons to see if I could add a little more to my bankroll before started the promotion. I was also prepared to hit an ATM while downtown, if needed.

We got a taxi at the Wynn and told the driver to take us to El Cortez. I figured I would start here with the boarding pass promo and then walk along Fremont using some other coupons. Well it seemed like it was taking a long time to get there and were stopped at a light right by Downtown Grand so I had the taxi driver drop us off there instead. We decided to sit at the bar to see if we could hit the 4 aces progressive. We didn't hit the aces, but I did hit this ....
    DTG progressive Royal July 2021.jpg

What a shock to get a royal after only holding an ace! I used up my free play here (I had $45 and actually hit 4 aces on bonus poker) and I also used the LVA match play coupon (lost). I never made it to El Cortez.

Now I felt pretty good about my bankroll to complete the promotion at the Four Queens. We walked over there and I got settled in at those terribly uncomfortable "6/9" machines. I was playing all dollars and it went pretty well until it was amazing and I got this:
    4Q Dollar Royal July 2021.jpg

Amazing. We then head over to the D so I can do the boarding pass matchplay and use my fsp. I ended up even here. We went back to the Four Queens and had dinner at Hugo's Cellar. I had something like $500 in comps from doing the promo in June and July. We each had the surf and turf, both delicious. I used to love Hugo's cellar, buy the last couple of times it wasn't great. I'm back in now. A told them it was my birthday so they gave us a chocolate lave cake. Yum.

I finished the promo, got my $400 fsp and turned it in to $400 cash. We cabbed it back to The Wynn. A said "let's each put in a couple of hundred dollars and play in the high limit room". So we found an ultimate x machine where we played dollars. This happened for $1200 : Wynn $1200 Ultimate X July 2021.jpg
$30/hand on ultimate x is something we cannot do for a long time so we then went out to the regular ultimate x machines we like to play and this happened ...
    Wynn Dealt Royal July 2021.jpg
Holy Cow! This is about the 6th dealt royal I have had and it is always so awesome to see the screen take over. What a day! I got 4 W2s, ooof. A had had enough for the day and she decided to go to the room. I asked her to take a bunch of my cash so I wouldn't get too crazy. It was a gigantic pile of $100s. I kept about $500 and just had fun for the night, but there were no more big wins.

Tomorrow - strip walk, STK happy hour, Cosmo

Day 3 - 7/27 - Terrace Point Cafe, Flamingo, STK Happy Hour, Milk Bar, Cosmopolitan

I like to walk and I have no problem walking the strip so my plan was to walk from The Wynn to MGM Grand and use my $25 konami fsp at MGM Grand, NYNY and Park MGM. Then have a long video poker session at The Cosmopolitan. We had breakfast first at Terrace Point Cafe where we sat outside. It was really humid and took a long time, I was overheated before the day started really and I am used to this kind of weather! Well the heat, not the humidity. Terrace point cafe had a special that included a juice, breakfast and fruit. We each ordered that and also a mimosa. My entree was eggs Benedict and A got Heuvos Rancheros. Both terrific. I swiped my players card before breakfast and had a $50 comp to Terrace Point Cafe so we used that and the $50 room comp for breakfast.

I was hot and sweaty, but we decided to start our walk. By the time we got to Flamingo I was drenched and needed to take a break. We stopped here and decided to play some Ultimate X for a bit. After about 30 minutes I made the executive decision that I was skipping the Konami fsp and just going to Cosmo. I had $50 fsp play here that I played through and then wanted to get 2500 for another $50. I played ultimate X, but it wasn't kind to me at all. We then decided to go to STK for their happy hour. Man those cocktails were so good! We had the cucumber one, strawberry one, watermelon one. The food was good too, we had the lil brg with truffle fries (okay we had 3 of these), crabcake slider, shrimp cocktail, and filet. We stopped by Milk Bar where I got a piece of birthday cake and A got a piece of pie. We weren't hungry so we saved them for later.

I played Bonus Poker in the high limit room for a long time. Managed to hit 2500 points to get the next $50 fsp. Played that through and then we walked back to the Wynn. It was a much better walk at night. Played here for a bit and called it a night. Once in the room we each had a few bites of our desserts. A really liked the pie, the birthday cake was way too sweet for me. So we saved the rest for tomorrow.

Tomorrow - Wynn Spa Day, Tiffany & Co and Delilah

Day 4 - 7/28 - Tableau, spa, jewelry shopping and Delilah

A and I had spa treatments scheduled for the am. Her massage was at 9am and mine was at 1030am. I didn't want to have to be anywhere or do anything much away from Wynn today. We had breakfast at Tableau, we each had the yogurt with berries and granola. The berries were really sour for some reason. I also ordered the flight of juices and there were very good.

My massage was terrific and the masseuse gave me a box of chocolates for my birthday. That was very nice of her and they were excellent. After my treatment I hung out in the spa for a bit and I used the Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Went back to the room and got ready for the rest of the day.

During our 11 year relationship my guy would buy me jewelry from Tiffany & Co occasionally. He was looking at some pieces online around Valentine's Day, I told him not to waste his money. Big mistake. Anyway, I told myself that if I won big I would buy myself something. I took $1000 out of the safe went to the Tiffany store in the mall across from the Wynn. I ended up buying myself a bracelet and earrings that match a necklace my guy bought for me several years ago.
    Tiffany.jpg

A also bought herself a necklace and earrings. We went back and played at the Wynn before our dinner reservations at Delilah.

We had reservations for 615pm at Delilah. We were seated promptly at a little table behind a pillar. We could see some of the stage, but not all of it. The entertainment probably didn't start for at least 15 minutes until after we were seated. We ordered some cocktails and they were not great, they weren't really bad or anything, but I don't need to have them again. The dirty martini they have on the menu had a ton of rosemary flavor in it. I wasn't expecting it and didn't really like it in my drink and I like rosemary. So I think I would stick with wine. For food we had the shrimp longhi appetizer and it was our favorite thing. A had some kind of fish said was good (maybe halibut). I had the lobster salad and it was tasty, but not worth $48. i also ordered a side of asparagus and their mac and cheese (fancy name of gratinee) which was spectacular. For my birthday they brought out the tiniest piece of chocolate cake, basically one bite for each out us. The entertainment started with a quartet playing a few songs, then a singer and the a couple of dancers joined her. I'm glad I experienced Delilah, but I don't need to do it again.

This was our last night of gambling so we put some money together and played ultimate x, this happened:
    Wynn Royal July 2021.jpg

I came to Vegas with $1200 and the gambling is basically done now since our flights are at 9am tomorrow. I have $5K in the safe and some new Tiffany jewelry. Tomorrow - flight home and it's my birthday.

July 29th - Going home for my birthday

A's flight to California was a little earlier than mine so I had some extra time to kill at the airport. I decided to slip $100 in a buffalo diamond machine. I ended up getting a bonus for something like 65 spins. I cashed out $200. Since I was $100 up at the airport I decided to play that $100 in triple double bonus poker to see if I could get a 4OAK. I didn't. When I was down to $125 my flight started to board. So basically I left the airport up $25. Nice!

Got to Tucson and immediately met a friend for lunch to celebrate my birthday. After that I went to the mall to buy myself some things. When I was in Vegas in June I lost a pair of ruby and diamond earrings so I figured I would see if I could find something similar. I ended up getting these with some of my winnings.
Diamond and ruby earrings July 2021.jpg
As soon as I got in my car at the mall, my cell phone rang and it was the hiring manager from the company that found me on linkedin. He said that they all unanimously liked me during the interview and they want to give me an offer. They are working on title and comp and the CEO would like me to come back to meet him. Luckily I really liked them too. What a birthday surprise! So we are still currently in negotiations, but it is all very exciting.

So I don't really know if much of these things are signs, but I would like to believe they are. I actually have tickets to the see the Long Island medium today at 3pm and I hope something really does happen that makes me know for sure there are signs from beyond. Okay, that's enough of my crazy for you for today. Thanks for reading!
