We just got back yesterday from a one night stay in Biloxi. We stayed at the golden nugget. Nice room with a balcony and great waterfront view.
I feel very safe in Biloxi, but we usually don't drive around at night because we have cocktails. But we have taxied (pre covid) and felt safe.

Very safe. Some reason you would not just stay at one of the casinos?

We don’t play in just one casino either way and we usually walk the strip in Vegas but I’m told to far to walk here so figured we would drive

wife likes the beach. May spend day at beach and nites in casinos

If you are staying at HGI @ 648 Beach Blvd, then you are 0.5mi from Beau Rivage and about 0.25mi from Hard Rock its an easy walk. I don't really worry about walking around Biloxi but its not as safe as VEGAS.

But like Vegas the walks are in the blazing sun and it is not a dry heat in Biloxi:) I have walked numerous times between Beau and Harrah's during the day and the most dangerous part is the uneven sidewalks in various places.

You can drive or walk to the Beau, Hard Rock, Harrahs, Golden Nugget very easy from where you are staying. All have free parking garages. If not getting hammered I would plan on driving but the Beau Rivage, one of the nicer casinos, is a short walk from you. Be aware they take temp checks on entry and all must war masks. Many good places to eat near your planned location.

Safe to walk day and night.

    Very low crime rate

The beaches are nice but don't plan on swimming. The water is murky brown. I wouldn't do too much walking during the day if you're going in the warmer months. The heat and humidity can be unbearable. Driving around is very easy and safe day and night. If you like casino hopping Biloxi is nothing like LV; most casinos are pretty far from each other except for the ones Fly mentioned so you'd be better off driving. We love the laid back atmosphere of Biloxi.

I find it safe at night and I have been to Treasure Bay and Boom Town at night and felt safe. I think of Biloxi as Vegas by car. The casinos are all short drives apart. If your feeling adventurous Gulf Port and Island View Casino is a 20 minute drive along the beach. I love the beach drive so it doesn't bother me. The beach is more for sunning, walking and wading than swimming. Have fun!

Yes, it is safe to walk or drive day or night here. It sounds like you are close to Hard Rock & Beau Rivage. Walking would be easy to those and they are two of my favorites. If you were going to that Golden Nugget, Harrah's Gulf Coast, Palace cluster, I would recommend driving but you could make it if you like to walk. Anywhere else, driving would be a must. Our beaches look great (BTW- it is the longest man-made beach in America - 26 miles) but our water isn't the best because the barrier islands offshore prevent the wave action needed to really churn up the water and clarify it.

You are close enough that you might enjoy some of the night-life in the downtown Biloxi entertainment district. Half Shell Oyster House, Patio 44, Mary Mahoney's for slightly upscale food. Mugshots for the best hamburger in MS (voted so by Mississippi Magazine the last 3 years), Sal & Mookies for pizza and old school ice cream. To get that "local" flavor, Adventures -right across the street (Lamuese) from the Halfshell. Adventures is my favorite bar - I was in there yesterday for a couple of hours. Another "local" flavor place is the "Ole Fillin' Station. A ton of people love it but it has never been my thing. Blame that on me, not them.
