This weekend i received an offer from the Tropicana for 2 nights comped Sun-Thursday . Not reduced rate but "free". Same offer that I used last year in March

When I called the guy quoted a “reduced” rate of $197 for weds (mar 21) and $240 (Thursday) Same 2 nights (1st 2 days of MM) were comped last year with same offer. When I inquired as to what’s free about $440.00 for 2 nights, he responds that the offers are “based on your play”.. Duuhhh ....Which I agreed, thats why they sent me 2 free nights. I get the “based on availability “ too but $440.00 ( which is $45.00 less than rack rate online for same 2 nights!!!) for 2 nights comped is BS!

Really disappointed in the Trop for this. I'm covered with CET, Gold Coast and Palace Station for the 7 days (although the Trop is more convenient for my daughter than Palace Station). Not sure why this new tactic was necessary but the trop doesnt have to worry about seeing me again!

    This is the offer

I'm confused. Did your play on the last trip not meet the Trop's expectations?

Call back and talk to a manager. Maybe the reservation person you talked to wasn't doing it right.

RTFP! Looks like they are covered contractually. "Up to" is key here.

Terms say "subject to availability and rates may vary", but if they are now saying based on play, that is a whole other thing.

Alan You may be right. Guy didn't even ask me for the code on which the offer said to give. It wouldn't be the first time that happened at a Vegas casino!

I would escalate this to a manager, did you provide the code on the ticket? Sometime that streamlines these reservation staff folks to the right place. That's the approach I would take.

I'm not sure I get the outrage. I get offers all the time from all casinos that are based on availability or prevailing rates on certain days. Almost all my offers that list as "X free nights" are subject to being not available on certain days with exceptionally high rates. I'm guessing this offer is being effect by March Madness rates?

Try again stating you'd like to 'schedule an offer I received. Would you like the offer code?'

Tbh Eastcoast, the guy never allowed me to even get to that point. In hindsight I probably should have offered it regardless but his initial 2 responses just made me say “ let me take Palace Station up on thier offer”. Good point though !

I am a bit higher player (or should I say fool)... but I often get offers that are not good for certain dates, etc.

Maybe that was it. Or bad CSR on the other end?

As to bait and switch... marginally. After all, you did not have to buy anything to later get screwed.

As many have said, I always have a similar experience, with Mlife. Offer says 2-3 nights comp and when I check the calendar, I see about 5-15 days/month that are available to be comped.

This is not uncommon at Penn Natl properties. If you log into their website you may see rates higher than if you don't log in at all, I've run into this at Hollywood Lawrenceburg. I think it depends on how busy they are that week or are projected to be. It should be a point of embarrassment for PNG. Welcome to the worst nationwide operator for players IMO.

Just call back another time to get another person on shift...sounds like you spoke to someone who came to LV hoping for dreams and promises...but ended up turning into a troglodyte

I do know that sometimes you will get higher rates with CET on your phone than on your desktop.

It sounds like they are expecting to be near to capacity and they would rather get $440 instead of $0.
They're pretty confident that if you don't pay it someone else will.
Run, don't walk to the nearest Palace Station!

I think it was the actions of an untrained employee who couldn't be bothered to investigate further, since he didn't even ask for an offer code. Even if there were an offer code given, hotels block off a certain number of rooms for comps and when that block is gone, it's gone - you have to pay the rate unless you are a whale or a host intervenes. The OP should still call back because that representative was not exactly on the ball.

As for bait and switch, many people use it incorrectly and don't know what it actually means. A true example of a "bait and switch" would be seeing a 75 inch tv advertised for $200 and going all the way down to the store only to find out it is actually being sold for $1500.

Agreed that it’s likely an untrained or apathetic employee. For it to be a bait and switch, I would imagine the employee would have to be incentivized to do this purposefully which doesn’t seem to be the case.

Either way, I would also call back mentioning the offer up front. If that doesn’t work, then to be fair the language doesn’t guarantee you’re getting two free nights. It’s written in a manner that doesn’t mandate you get two free nights.

I get the frustration, but unless they would not comp you for any nights, that is not a bait and switch.

You picked some popular nights, and your offer was blacked out for them. May not have happened to you last year, but they may have more bookings for March Madness this year.

From experience, when you are getting "2 weeknight" offers from places, you are riding very close to the line where they'll give you anything at all.
