I try to cash out after a bonus if it puts me ahead. Not necessarily because I think it won’t hit again but to make sure I don’t lose it all. Sometimes I just put in fresh money. I will leave a machine that doesn’t seem to be hitting. I know cognitively it doesn’t matter but after lots of spins and not even a “rebate” win of my bet back it ceases to be fun.

I try to find the unicorn machines - like a double top dollar with a $2 max bet over $3. You get paid less on triple diamond and a few other small hits but my money goes farther. I remember one trip at Bellagio where they have one machine like that. I would try to play every time I was in the area. There was the same “camper” on it almost every time. Frustrating when you see someone almost to their last dollar on the machine you want and you see them toss in another hundred.

Yeah, since boyd truncates tier credits severely, I wouldn't move machines there. You also sometimes earn more BConnected points the longer you play at a machine.

As long as you don't time out before playing the next hand, cashing out and reloading should be okay.

I am constantly on the move, switching machines, switching casinos.
That's why I don't like summer in Vegas, too hot outside to do casino hoping.
As the math says it (moving) doesn't hurt.

I do both, sometimes I stay put. Sometimes I switch games and sometimes I change machines or even casinos. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

If I have a comfortable machine and a good bartender, only thing that get me to move is an old hag blowing smoke

Hey same! I wait until the RNG starts a winning streak - lol! A good deal of the time I can change the rhythm and if not I will get up and change machines.

At casino bars I believe you can only find multi-games vp machines. Therefore, if I get on what I feel is a bad streak, I just change games without having to get up and move. Now my wife is another story. I dislike going to the bar machines with her. Unless she quickly gets on a good streak, I have to move her tip glass 3-4 times a gambling session. She almost always starts at machine to my left or right. Suddenly, without warning, she's on my other side. Then, next thing I know , she down 2,3,or4 machines away. Get's embarrassing, especially at Boar's Head.

What I don't like about switching games at the same machine is that sometimes it comes back to bite me. I mostly play DDB and will sometimes switch to DW. Murphy's Law takes over when I switch to DW I will then hit 4 OAK natural. The real killer is if I hit 4 ACES natural playing DW. Wife always tells me just because I got 4 OAKS natural playing DW that doesn't mean I would have got it playing DDB.

If I'm having a bad run of luck for while, I'll finally leave a machine. I never leave right after I have a big hand - Royal or Aces w/k. I'm always thinking I can get more, sometimes I do.

Last week in Vegas I tried a systematic approach to a cold machine. I'd put in $100 and was playing max bet quarters. Pay tables on all games were good (South Point). I switched games every $20 drop. Didn't matter much. Played five games and went broke, just more slowly than if I'd stuck with something like DDB.

Off topic a bit, but a new favorite of mine is Bonus Poker Deluxe. Never played it until March, but played it a lot last week. I really like the $100 for any quad. My wife plays almost exclusively DDB. It was funny. She had an amazing number of near-misses on the premium quads, always getting three A,2,3 or 4 with a kicker but never getting the fourth. I of course got four aces once and four aces with a kicker once, but was playing Bonus Deluxe. Then again, she did get a royal flush.

How long do you typically play on a machine before you move to another one?

If you put a $20 or $100 in the machine, do you play until there is no money left?

Do you vary your bet amount each spin?

If you put $100 in and after 10 spins have lost half of that, do you change your bet amount or ride it out?

I typically do not have any luck on slot machines or video poker. As a result, I tend to play very conservatively and use smaller denomination bet amounts in order to stretch out my play and make it last.

I play video poker - I don’t change machines or bet sizes within a session. I just play it out until I reach my tier credit goal.

I would only change due to external factors (smoke, annoying neighbor)

feel free to move or delete the post, then. I wasn't totally relegating to VP, but no need to duplicate!

    Thanks!

Hmm.....something I didn't consider before....I usually play Boyd when in Vegas, and Monarch in Colorado. Monarch just converted to Tier Credit system. I usually play $20 at a time in triple play quarter progressives, alternating between games, but usually DDB, TDB, and Bonus Deluxe. Am I shooting myself in the foot by alternating $20s with a Tier Credit system? I guess I can set up a test, and play only one game next trip, but hard when there are 3 games over $20K for a deal royal progressive......Thanks in advance!

I used to be a slot hopper but not anymore due to others getting on the one I was on and wins more than I do. If I get little wins, I stay on until a big win and then I get off. If a machine is consistently not paying, I take my card and ticket out and put it back in and that usually helps. if not, I get off and move and when others get on, nothing is happening still which is a good thing for me. Try the taking ticket and card out and put back in technique before changing machines.

Around mid90s I was a broke dealer/college student working in Lake Tahoe.

This was back in the good old days of coin so it was easy to move around. I got a tub of $5 worth of nickels and pulled the handle or pressed the button 3-5 times; if it won a stayed put until it lost 3-5 times in a row.

I was young, a freshly minted 21 year old so free cocktails mattered and the waitresses followed me all night. I also tipped well because I was industry too and also karma.

The result after an all night play? 10 Bucks up in a bucket full of coins. Visited all four big casinos and the local one Lakeside. (Walked to Lakeside because we had no rideshare)

One of the most fun gambling nights of my life!
